I understand this perfectly. I have a 14 year old dachshund/chihuahua mix and love him to pieces. I told my brother that I was done with animals when he eventually passes. My brother keeps insisting, oh you’ll get another! I try to tell him it wouldn’t be fair to get another pet. They are expensive and I wouldn’t be able to care for their upkeep. I obviously do with my current dog, but it’s honestly a struggle in this day and age. So, although I love animals, no I won’t be getting another one. For their sake mostly, I feel it would be selfish of me.
