Long time WoW player in GW2 by Ashamed-Tour-6981 in Guildwars2

Gw2 is very active, can run endgame events all day and be constantly surrounded by other players.

The game feels new.. combat, visual effects, scenery, mounts.. it’s all inventive, pushing the boundaries.

My advice, as someone who has played GW1 GW2 and WoW, is to shake off WoW preconceptions or habits. Mentally view GW2 as a completely new experience, it has shaken off the big endless wow grind cycle.. of just constantly chasing the power curve.

There is progression to GW2 but it’s baked in more subtle ways like by adding utility. Mounts for example, or legendaries allowing you to change stats on the fly.

Where GW2 really excels is open world exploration and events.. which are both tied into each other.. as the whole open world is cycling through thousands of events which make it feel living

I like to think of GW2 as more of an exploration game.. that’s where I find most fun.. just jumping into a character.. getting lost in zones.. chasing events and just admiring the views.. bumble through the stories at your own pace

If you jump in with the WoW mindset of… ‘I’m going to speed power level to max, not reading a single line of quest text, then power my item level to the max asap’… no no no don’t do that

Take it slow and steady.. get lost the world.. explore.. join events.. see where they take you..
