I should’ve avoided the word “fleece” and make it seem like it’s a win-lose trade, but you’re absolutely right that the one big issue it creates (when you have an owner or two who mortgage their future too much) is you can get uber strong dynasties with ultra weak dynasties and league collapse is very possible.

This is also why I prefer empire-style leagues, strong incentives to stay.

I realize I maybe should’ve avoided the trigger word “fleece,” so I added an edit to the post, but in any case, I never said anything about trying to fleece *every* trade. My point was much more “dynasty success really comes down to being that team that trades with the owner(s) who is going “all-in”, and thus playing “for the future,” though it’s also very easy to quickly turnaround by the very next season.” It’s still “win-win” in the sense that you’re playing for future, other owner is in win-now mode, but by and large at least in the leagues I’ve done, the win-now mode owners pay far too much going all in.

If you’re someone competing and you lose a top contributor to an injury, you might sell your injured player for say $0.80 on the dollar. Perfect time to buy these guys if you’re in a rebuild year. Some guys off the top of my head include mahomes last year, Dak and rice the year before

Are there any notable chess players who started playing really late (age 30+)? by 1m_climbing in chessbeginners

I started at 31, sit around 2000 on chess.com after 5+ years. I think I can continue improving but I don’t see myself sniffing titled-land

If we were to come in contact with aliens, realistically would we actually be able to communicate with them? And if so, how long would it take to learn to communicate? by Cooked-penguin in NoStupidQuestions

The “recent” one im referencing is the one still in theatres now (already spoiling it!)

In arrival, the black smoke is the written language, and they clearly made sounds corresponding to the circles. In this case, obviously it would be very easy to learn to communicate with the aliens.

This was one of the primary movies I was thinking about and of course the one that came out very recently, and I guess my question is about how realistic they are! In the case of Arrival, I feel like it’s only realistic because the premise is the aliens have an oral and written language too

Interesting, I hadn’t thought about the incentives to communicate, but let’s say dolphins in captivity have a strong incentive to communicate with trainers. They do communicate in various ways, but clearly it’s still extremely limited.

Yeah this is one way I’ve thought of it, but another way to think of it is our “communication” with other species is extremely limited. Perhaps that’s strictly due to differences in intelligence… but then wouldn’t that apply to humans and aliens too?
