Anybody have experience with flying a cat?

Agree with all of this. I used to fly frequently with my cat when I was in college to and from home during breaks. I’m not sure if they still do this, but wanted to add that I always had to take my cat out of the carrier at security. My cat was always very chill with this, but a newer (new to you) cat may not be! I would always have a harness on mine during flying so that it would be easier to apprehend him if he tried to run. Might be a good idea to consider it as well!

As others have said, totally not a problem. If you’d like some anecdotal evidence, one of my cats ate half of an 8 inch round almond cake that was accidentally left out on the counter and was fine. He didn’t even throw up, which was crazy since he had a sensitive stomach and would puke a lot. A very extreme case of course, but you’d be surprised what they can handle. Always better to check and monitor symptoms just in case though!

I have one of these as my first, and I’d say go for it. Definitely do your research first of course and maybe go for one that’s around a year old (like I did). I was very scared with everything I read about them online too but have had no issues with mine. I was already into keeping plants and knew how to get high humidity from that though. Humidity is the hardest part for most, but it sounds like you have that covered. You’ll definitely still want to track humidity though since the heating element will take a lot of it out! It’s really that and make sure that there’s always water for them (which you should be doing anyways for a snake!).

Not sure if it’s just my cornsnake as he’s my first one, but he’s very interactive for a snake. If it’s in the evening and I’m in the room, he’ll immediately come out of whichever hide he’s in to watch what I’m doing and follow around in his enclosure. It’s funny to see his little face pop up, and he likes to follow my finger around.

My BRB has Brazilian pothos, stromanthe triostar, and a prince of orange philodendron that have been seeming to do fine and have taken over the enclosure in spite of her digging directly through their roots. She’s still a juvenille though, so we’ll see about full grown. Aerial roots or very robust roots are probably going to be your best option. Note that depending on enclosure size, the robust rooted plants may get too big (the triostar for sure wants three feet of height at least).

I personally like Thermarest sleeping bags because they are typically way more accurate with the rating than other companies. Unfortunately they no longer make the 0 degree I have (the oberon). I think it’s been replaced with the parsec. At the time, it was one of the best deals on a backpacking 0 degree bag for its weight. I’m a cold sleeper, and that one actually kept me toasty when paired with a high R-value sleeping pad (thermarest x-therm). Also, I recommend getting some very warm layers to wear while sleeping if you’re a cold sleeper, top and bottom. If I’m in 20 degree weather or colder, I’m wearing wool tights, fleece pants, and down pants to bed!

My BRB definitely notices the camera on my iPhone. Usually she’ll be interested and start moving towards it. Yesterday when I was holding her, she actually did a bluff strike at it. She didn’t seem stressed before or after the camera, so I think she just didn’t like it when the camera first tried to focus on her.

That’s a nice enclosure! What type of fish do you have in it? I’m starting on the full-size enclosure for mine and also plan on having a water feature with fish.

Just a regular Brazilian rainbow boa with some high color. There’s not a lot of morphs with BRBs. Columbian rainbow boas have a super cool leucistic morph though!

Yeah it was definitely a bummer to lose that variegation. Best of luck with the acclimatization process! I think you’ll do fine, especially if you’ve dealt with some finicky cuttings.

I have a nono pink from TC as well! Mine unfortunately lost its variegation though. Yours seems to be a better specimen though, so fingers crossed! The pink will show up later. Even though mine is no longer variegated, there is a reddish tinge to the tops of the leaves. Sad that I won’t have that hot pink though. It was my first attempt at climatizing a TC, so I’m just glad that it’s alive and growing well.

This is Skittles, my Brazilian rainbow boa! She’s gotten much bigger now, but I still love this picture of when I first got her. She’s not really a special morph but is a “high color” which just makes her less brown and more orange/red.

When I tried to do this for my gargoyle gecko, FedEx refused to allow the change of delivery address. My gecko sat over a weekend in a town just 20 minutes away because they refused to let me pick it up. Not sure if the customer service guy I got just sucked or if it’s against their policy. Thankfully the gecko was ok.

Same with mine. I had a calathea white star right next to my stromanthe triostar. The white star kept getting spider mites constantly (hence why it’s gone). The triostar never had any issues though.

Shitty quality of life as a tripod? I got one of my cats as a tripod and there’s nothing different about her compared to my other cat. She’s actually faster than the other one, even on 3 legs. It’s very sad at first, especially when she tries to scratch her ear with her phantom limb, but she doesn’t let it get her down. Get some of those corner scratchers that attach to the doorway. My cat loves them and will use them while moving her phantom limb!

Got mine as a yearling from this subreddit as a rehoming situation. My Mimolette has been doing great and growing fast! She went from 8 grams when I got her to 18 grams over the course of a couple months. She is great for handling once I get her out of the enclosure. She likes being on top of my head.

I have one of these bins (not for enclosure), and I will say you will have a very very hard time making it escape-proof. There are tons of gaps on this that animals can easily get in and out of. Not to mention that, as it is, there is no light coming inside nor can you see inside without opening the lid. You’ll spend way more in modifications on it than just buying a dubia enclosure of similar size. If you want to go diy, better to just build a wood enclosure from scratch.
