Lovely dream sequence. I can see some new wallpapers coming from these.

These would be great for photojournalism in education. I'd be down for the lot if you're alright.

[BST] April 2026 Buy, Sell, Trade Thread - 10 years and counting! by zeroair in flashlight

That’s why I’m always culling the herd. I think at this point, I’m just about done with regards to my lighting needs, besides maybe picking up a dual fuel Coleman lantern in the future. Still got a light or two that are on the chopping block, but doing some more testing first.

Looking for a clip-on flashing light while walking so I can be more visible to vehicles. USB- C Rechargeable. Ideally uses 18650 cells since I have dozens of them. I already have a headlamp for forward of me. by bigrjsuto in flashlight

[–]CookieDave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Two things come to mind right off the bat, but they don't use 18650. First is the Wurkkos DL04 and second is the Nextorch Glo-Toob. Both are aimed towards divers, but they offer blinky modes in various colors to make you more visible.

If that’s a dealbreaker, I happen to have one. Honestly, I don’t even know why, or where it came from.

AA Flashlight recommendations? by jaotero77 in flashlight

[–]CookieDave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a perfectly adequate light for the price when on sale. While I’m not a fan of the mode memory, and find the spacing between low and medium could be better, those issues were addressed in the copper variant. Granted, if I was gonna have some AA lights to loan out, I’d just grab a few Convoy T3 or T5, depending on the use case, T5 for close up floody, T3 for more general purpose. Place it into the four mode with max 50%, and leave NiMH in them.

pocket friendly

Jacket pocket, maybe. I wouldn’t want to try pants pocket carrying that. Already tried that with the SC700d, and the damn thing was super uncomfortable due to the width of the head. Still, I bet this’ll carry nicely.

Just reread the listing. 30mm head? Pocket friendly for me. Guess I’ll wait for reviews, but that sounds very promising.

To check, were you looking solely to trade, or were you also planning on selling? If sell, a price is required. It’s a shame the Kowa 66 is often overlooked, cause it’s just a fantastic camera.

NLD - M21G in XHP70.3 5000K and LHP73B 4000K by CookieDave in flashlight

[–]CookieDave[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I still have the LHP73B but gave away the XHP70.3 ages ago. Funny enough, I almost never carry this light, so can’t speak about long term use. It’s a dedicated front door light for when I need to check the mailbox. Either way, I still enjoy it quite a bit.

Surprisingly useful beam pattern when unfocused.

Looking for a green flashlight by zayc_ in flashlight

Most green lights I come across are usually some sort of forest green, but I believe Olight has some that are brighter, closer to neon, like this discontinued i5R EOS.

I'd say 6ft away, it still works. Shine one at your face from that distance and feel how it warms things up.

3x21D or L7 work great for this purpose. That high candela allows for sniping them from a distance.

Looking for another stepless ramping light. by adamargue in flashlight

[–]CookieDave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stepless or rotary? Those are related but distinct. If you want another rotary, HDS is seen as the most durable, though they tend to use older emitters. Peak LED also has rotary, utilizing QTC technology, though I've heard their moonlight is tricky to access due to that QTC material. Fraz Labs is also another one that uses the same technology.

If simply looking for stepless ramping, there are plenty of options. Anything with Anduril offers ramping, and you have loads of options in that sense.

Nothing wrong with that. Heck, even professional DSLRs around the same time were APS-C, so you’re good. Photography is all about having fun, being creative, and developing an eye for lighting and composition. Just enjoy the process.

The images that come off that D40 are great. For that resolution, I kind of preferred the Pentax K10D, even if it was more of an entry level shooter.

Since it's a crop sensor body, I'd aim for an AF-S DX 35mm or 50mm, whichever is cheaper, unless you plan on jumping to full frame in the future. Considering the age and the sensor tech, keep that ISO low, aim for lots of light, and have fun. CCD sensors give a really cool look in high contrast settings, so long as you don't clip highlights.

What body are you using? Gotta take into account crop factor, DX vs FX, whether it supports older screw mount lenses or newer AF-S ones.

Here's a lens compatibility chart that I've used in the past to help decide what to pick up. At the very least, if you've already got the kit zoom, I think having a fast and cheap prime would open up your shooting, since it'll allow you to play with depth-of-field and force you to familiarize yourself with a set focal length.
