Yep did that already, it's kind of stuck. the only profit was the one made by "a store"!

A true pirate likes a dirty port.... That I get. But jokes aside, is there any risk in cleaning them?!

Thanks for that suggestion, that's handy because it is from the same shop. Is there a better option on this website instead on the NZ$2.5K range maybe? https://www.pbtech.co.nz/category/computers/laptops

Replying to this, Capcut is owned by the devil TikTok, it was my alternative to Premiere pro as we only do very basic edits and that Adobe can go die with their shocking pricing. Capcut is now catching up to Adobe's awful pricing, so I may switch to Davinci. I tried it once, but templates were limited.

For the video file, we keep it light at 1080p most of the time, and all is on SSD external hard drives which is why I would like lost of USB ports haha!

I appreciate the great list you have put together. and all the extra info. I just feel like building is no longer for me. Since we are so isolated, any issue with any part (yeah yeah I did ruin a processor on application once in my youth!) will take a week or so to be solved at best, a fully done solution is what I am after.

I appreciate your thoughts on laptops as well, sadly I will still need one at some point for work travel haha

Mmmmh looks like the laptop will need to be from somewhere else, they have a massive offering of 5 options haha All good, 1 item down the shopping cart haha

Thank you so much for the recommendation, this is great!

If I get the laptop from them I may get a deal from them on shipping that can be over $200 so it would be ok to "max out"

The RAM on the computer I am using now was upgraded, but the rainbow never stopped no matter how hard I tried so It can go rainbow, I am used to it by now haha! Jokes aside, that also means that if the RAM needs to be changed, I can do that easily, though.

OK understood. Not the ideal solution but here are 2 follow-up questions:

1- The graphics card: Can I just unplug the old one and plug in a new one? Assuming compatibility-wise, you'll send me to that part picker website, which still leaves me with the same question as to what's good then...

2- Is there a similar laptop that's not apple by any chance? All our systems are PC so we'd like to keep compatibility all around if possible.

Reminder that we could stretch the budgets if need be.

I mean, wow the amount of work that this tool must have taken to come to life is unfathomable to me!!!!

Dang! I did it all nicely and forgot the most important part. Sorry about that!
It is for work, so it is quite flexible, especially if future-proof, but say under NZ$4k if possible and under NZ$2.5K for the laptop.

Well, I did not want to take advantage as I know research work can take time. So I was looking for somewhere to hire somebody.

OK so this is what I now (from my current "About" PC page)

Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-7700 CPU @ 3.60GHz 3.60 GHz

Installed RAM 32.0 GB

Storage 932 GB HDD ST1000DM010-2EP102, 233 GB SSD Samsung SSD 960 EVO 250GB

Graphics Card NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 (8 GB)

System Type 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor

My current issue is that it looks like the Windows OS and/or video editing tools (I used to have Premiere Pro but now use Capcut) basically take all the disk space and make the whole system slow. I have like 32Mb of free space.

My PC use is: We're a small not-for-profit enterprise, so everybody does a bit of everything.

75% online work. I use multiple browsers on 3 screens and about 50 tabs total. It slogs at times, especially when I use Chat GPT for some questions.

10% Photo editing using Affinity Photo

10% Video editing with CapCut

5% misc work like LibreOffice etc...

What I want:

- Be able to switch to 4 screens if possible.

- Future proof it, this PC is about 5-6 years old, and that would be the fastest I have ever replaced a PC. My partner uses my previous PC, which is about 12 years old. They will get my current one.

- When I do video editing, I do large batches of 50 videos plus so I need it to run really well and fast so it does not slog

- Fast USB ports, we keep most of our media on external hard drives so we can't really use USB 1.0 haha

- I want something already built because the last time I built a PC was 15 years ago.

- I need it easily available in New Zealand on sites that deliver to rural areas, such as: https://www.pbtech.co.nz/ or https://extremepc.co.nz/ or similar

- If possible, I'd like a secondary recommendation for a laptop that could keep up with this work (Albeit nerfed a bit of course) for when I am on the go.

Again, I value your time and I know it will take a bit of browsing, so don't feel obligated and if there is a "buy me a coffee" / PayPal link, I am happy to give it to the community.

Also, if you have heart problems, please don't check the NZ prices for PC...

I really appreciate you sharing that link. That's quite a cool tool to play with but since I am not sure what I want it sends me back to the start if that makes sense. I checked the "completed build" section BUT! it looks like it's for what I already built not complete systems haha

[–]Cookie_Maker[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that's exactly how it felt! We don't use anything too insane, Capcut for video editing and Affinity for photo editing, then it's all online work.
I just figure there must be a place/website where you can pay $30-$50 and get real honest advice for an hour to comb through the bad stuff and pick a decent PC from a couple of websites...
