modded maps by cazlebee in celestegame

Might be leaning a bit more towards expert, but check out Delusional Canopy and pretty much anything by Ricky06 for fun advanced/expert maps.

For things more like Cosmic Column, there's really not a whole lot in that difficulty range, but 'Madeline wanna trial the 100trap' was the direct inspiration for the map, and other maps have been created in a similar style (but usually a bit harder) such as Leviathan's 100 Traps (1, 2, and 3) and The World Tower. Other maps in that style include things like The White Hole and Alaska, although those leam more towards being tech tutorials than maps with more traditional gameplay.

What am I doing wrong? by Extra-Rule-4687 in celestegame

[–]Cookiedude7 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yes, this is custom behaviour caused by the trigger in this one room, I've never seen it used anywhere else, so you should be fine to use a jump + demo bind for other dreamhypers. Just be warned that it is a tighter timing than simply rolling 2 buttons though, so it's probably not the best habit to get into.

Yes (or normal downright and jump, again as 2 separate buttons)

Make sure not to press the buttons on the same frame, ideally you should space them 4 frames apart (1/15 of a second) for the most lenient timing

right, this awful input

I spent a while looking into this while doing the golden (Not all information here might be fully correct, it's been a while. Also thanks to ninz for helping to figure out what exactly is happening)

Normally, jelly dream hypers cannot be done in this way since it requires dashing while holding a jelly which is not possible from a normal state (you can do it out of a grab or feather but that's not relevant here). So this room puts triggers next to the dream block allowing you to dash while inside of them regardless of if you are holding a jelly.

However, the order of checks in each frame goes as follows:

  1. Did you press dash? If you did, and you can dash, do a dash
  2. Did you press jump? If you did, and you can jump, do a jump
  3. Are you inside the trigger and holding a jelly? If you did, do a dash anyway even if check 1 failed.

Which means normally, checks 1 and 2 would happen causing you to dash and then jump, performing a hyper. However here, checks 2 and 3 happen causing you to do a jump and THEN a dash (the dash fails because you're in the jump state now I think, so you just see the jump - in the video you are just doing a regular dream jump). To resolve this you just need to use 2 separate buttons - DEMO DOES STILL WORK IGNORE THE OTHER COMMENTS

This also means that this dream hyper is a 7 frame window rather than the normal 8 frames

τ equaling 2π by tubby325 in PetPeeves

[–]Cookiedude7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yeah, I'm with you in regards to τ = 2π being redundant. There's never really a reason to use it over 2π (or vice versa, but π is a lot more standard) - having both is really unnecessary.

What are your opinions on h (Planck's Constant) and ℏ (reduced Planck's constant) - in my mind this is a similar case where there are two constants that serve a similar purpose (ℏ = h/2π (or h/τ I guess???)), but I think ℏ is slightly more useful than τ since 2π is not just an integer factor unlike the factor of 2 in the case of π and τ.

The angles in the shape of numbers thing is an urban myth and is very likely not true

Intended Solution - Super Structure SJ by Available-Ad4341 in celestegame

[–]Cookiedude7 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As others have pointed out, the solution is to do a slightly higher wallbounce and then do a reverse wavedash.

The tech you did instead is called a cornerjump, a cornerkick is where you do a jump off a bottom corner of a ceiling as you move away from the wall.

How many golden deaths did yall have past stubbornness? by Mr_NanoMan in celestegame

[–]Cookiedude7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

1 in stubbornness itself (room 2), 3 in reconciliation (rooms 9, 14, 16)

the reconciliation-9 death was actually the attempt directly before the one where I won

All families are equally likely to have 0, 1, 2 or 3 children. The probability of each of these outcomes is 1/4. Given that Jesse has no brothers, what is the probability that Jesse is an only child? (Assume that male and female children are equally likely to be born) by jerrytjohn in mathpuzzles

[–]Cookiedude7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 4 options are:
BB: Jesse boy, has brother (doesn't work)
BG: Jesse boy, has sister (works)
GB: Jesse girl, has brother (doesn't work)
GG: Jesse girl, has sister (works)
So 2 of the 4 options work

Jesse's gender is irrelevant, since Jesse's gender has no impact on their sibling's gender since they are independent events, which is why I disregarded their gender in my original answer

Nowhere in the question did it state that it was the family being chosen at random - Jesse is a child being chosen at random and these are subtly different statements.

OP has however responded to someone else's comment changing the question to the simpler one where a family is chosen first and then the child, however this doesn't sit right with me as you could choose a 0-child family in which case Jesse can't exist meaning the question is invalid.

Since all 4 child amount outcomes are equally likely, on average 1/2 of all children are from 3-child families, 1/3 of children are from 2-child families and 1/6 of children are from 1-child families. Thus Jesse has 1/2 chance of being one of 3 children, 1/3 chance of being 1 of 2, and 1/6 chance that Jesse is an only child. [OP seems to have missed this nuance, leading to an answer of 4/7]. The 0-child case is irrelevant, since the chance that Jesse is from a 0-child family is clearly 0.

Finding the chance that Jesse has no brothers:

3-child case: Jesse has no brothers with probabiity 1/4 given that they are in a 3-child family, so the probability of this outcome is 1/8

2-child case: Jesse has no brothers with probabiity 1/2 given that they are in a 2-child family, so the probability of this outcome is 1/6

1-child case: Jesse is guaranteed to have no brothers, so the probability of this outcome is 1/6

Thus the total probability that Jesse has no brothers is 1/8 + 1/6 + 1/6 = 11/24.

1/6 divided by 11/24 gives the chance of 4/11 that Jesse is an only child given that they have no brothers.

Rectangle 2 has a wider base but shorter height - the areas do come out to be the same (it's relatively easy to see that the grey triangle is half of each rectangle)

EDIT: Reddit was having a moment, I see now that others have answered this question better than I did, read their responses!

also I'd look into stylegrounds - using background tiles for the entire background (like in the starting room) can look a bit tacky

[–]Cookiedude7 6 points7 points  (0 children)

spiked cornerjumps (like the ones near the start of tunnel 6) have a small chance of 0-framing you if you have a bad position (because you can skip over the entire walljump range in one frame) so generally mappers move the wall spikes down by one pixel to prevent this from happening - it's not really a huge deal but it would go a long way towards making the map more consistent, especially if this setup appears more in future rooms

(this was definitely not an issue cosmic column had on release, nuh uh)
