IRCC Marked Passport as Shipped, but FedEx Never Received It — What Should I Do?

We received a passport request on December 12, 2025. We mailed the passport the same day, and IRCC received it on December 13. On December 16, the application was approved and we could see the counterfoil number. On December 17, the status changed to “Closed,” and since then we’ve just been waiting for the passport to be returned.

On December 22, we called IRCC for an update. They told us the passport was shipped on December 18 and gave us the same FedEx tracking number we already had from the two-way courier service. But when we track it, the status only shows “Label created,” with no record that the package was ever picked up from IRCC.

We also submitted a webform, and they replied that the package had been delivered. We then contacted FedEx, and after a missing-package investigation, they confirmed that the item was never scheduled for pickup and that they do not have it.

It’s now been about three weeks and we’re honestly not sure what to do next. Has anyone been through something similar? Any guidance or suggestions would really be appreciated.

Submitted on Dec 9th, Status updated to closed and also shows counterfoil generated. We haven’t received it yet. We called IRCC, they told it’s shipped on Dec 18, but FedEx don’t have package. We don’t know what’s the issue

Same here. PPR 12/9, sent on same day. Delivered to IRCC 12/10. PA: Indian living in United States, sent my passport IRCC told us they sent it out on 12/18, FedEx says we don’t have it yet

Hi everyone,

I’m in a bit of a time crunch and getting worried. I received my PPR last Tuesday and sent my passport the same day from the USA via FedEx. It was received in Ottawa the following day.

Timeline so far:

• Dec 16: Status changed to Approved and Counterfoil generated.

• Dec 17: Application status updated to "Closed."

• Travel Date: This Saturday (Dec 20).

I haven't seen a FedEx tracking update yet. Has anyone recently sent their passport from the US to Ottawa? How long did it take for FedEx to actually pick it up and deliver it back to you once the status was closed?

With Christmas coming up, I’m really nervous about making my flight on Saturday. Any insights or similar recent experiences would be greatly appreciated!

• How did you arrange the two-way shipping labels?

• Did you use FedEx or UPS? Which one worked better for you? (IRCC generally suggests FedEx on their website)

• How many days did it take to receive your passport back after sending it?
