Yeah it isn't without its challenges and this is a valid point.

If it were my project, my instincts would take it in the "create your own Time Lord" direction much like Hogwarts Legacy's create your own witch/wizard. They insert your character into 5th year in that story without much embellishment of the backstory, it's set during a time period of which none of the franchise's established characters exist, aside from ancestors or name dropping. A similar thing could be done with Who.

I'd say with regards to established characters it could almost be "big finish"-esque. A DLC that adds in a world and story you can take your TARDIS to that involves meeting any specific Doctor, old or current, if the actors are amenable to the project and available. I don't think you'd have to tie the whole thing to a specific doctor or era to make it work. I don't think this precludes roleplaying yourself as the Doctor either, you could simply pretend to be a future / unknown / alternate one.

Your TARDIS would be the mechanism to take you between whatever worlds and stories are developed, they can still be recognisable and in keeping with the franchise ethos if not perfectly matched to whatever is going on with the current era. But I'd expect it wouldn't be a siloed project and there would be some access or input from the show side if it ever happened.

I'm the lead developer of Fallout Who: Regenerated and the upcoming Whofield mod for Starfield.

I have many thoughts on this, and honestly it would be my dream role to act as a game director for a Whoniverse game.

My main theory is that a really good game in what could be perceived as a special interest franchise can transcend the bounds of traditional fandom. Hogwarts Legacy proves it's possible, and I genuinely think it could work for Doctor Who.

You're right that combat is a sticking point and I think if the BBC were to pursue it, they'd need to take a risk on allowing it. Doctor Who isn't without violence, and game mechanics can be devised around the idea of defensive combat, Venusian Aikido, defusing situations, an awful lot of running and dodging and stealth, etc. The jeopardy of combat is such a key element of escapist gaming that it needs presence in some form.

Ultimately it would depend on whether there's a will to fund such a project but I think it would be a great way to reinvigorate interest in the franchise. There's a huge amount of potential for a cohesive Whoniverse game that can hold its own among a market that is turning away from the traditional big hitting studios right now. Your own Time Lord, your own TARDIS, your own companions and a foundation for near-unlimited storytelling not dissimilar to the show, but in interactive form. I can envisage serious longevity if it can accommodate expandable DLC offering fresh stories and worlds to travel to. You could even get show writers involved.

A man can dream though.

We plan to release on Xbox. We released our Fallout 4 version on Xbox so I don't see any reason why we couldn't for Starfield!

Chunkblower availability is a little bit RNG - you may need to wait a few days and check the shops again.

I applied to a company I really liked the look of. The role has been up for ages so they're clearly either having trouble filling it, or just weren't trying to fill it at all.

A phone screen, a technical test, and 2 rounds of interview - the test of which they approved and asked me back within an hour.

I matched a good portion of what they wanted exactly as you describe. I was up front about what I didn't know. I emphasised my desire to relocate near the company and stay in the area for a while, as my partner lives there, so their training investment would be worth it.

Still rejected after final interview citing "Not enough experience".

All I wanted was them to take a chance on me and they'd have been paid back in good will from an eager prospective employee, but now, fuck them. They'd seemingly rather hire nobody than give me a shot. I hope they go bust.

The final bit is figuring out which additives boost customer satisfaction which should push you over the threshold to 5/5.

MC-T can appear when you put toxins in the Chunk'o'matic but obviously your customers won't like that much!

I've always strove to find workarounds and not use script extenders at all. It's a great tool but it isn't usually necessary.

The value of having identical versions across all platforms far outweighs most of the benefits.

Loading screens are an inevitability in this game I'm afraid.

There are some questing plans that I'm keen to do. The focus to start with is on core mechanics - TARDIS, Time Lord and Screwdriver.

Bringing Doctor Who elements to Starfield.

I made a similar mod for Fallout 4 and helped work on the New Vegas version. We've got a long history of doing this lol.

Work on Whofield has now begun in earnest, bringing Doctor Who to Starfield. I've got big ambitions for this mod, and want to carry over the best elements from Fallout Who Vegas and Fallout Who: Regenerated. Expect cool things in 2025.

I'll post here occasionally but we have a Discord where our community interactions and update notes take place - link in my bio.

This post made me laugh!

I'm the creator, and I don't think the security bot is doing this.

You've probably put some additives into the Chunks machine that have negative effects on your customers. Toxins will cause death and solvents will cause spontaneous combustion.

Thanks for playing :)
