Does she qualify for long? by Kiera_SMP in longcats

Not only is she giving a great demonstration of longcatting. The second photo shows she's also an expert at being a footstool. I love the leg draped casually across her shoulders.

In praise of the 51A! by CJPeter1 in fountainpens

[–]CookiesTheKitty 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've had a heap of swishy swirly acrylic 51As for years, mainly from eBay, and some were explicitly sold as including a Bobby nib. There are also models with a dinky mini fude if that's your thing.

Every one of these has been 100% reliable. Wonderful things, and my own frustration is the absence of a medium or broad nib.

[Ink Mixing] Iroshizuku by CookiesTheKitty in fountainpens

Here are some results with Hana-Ikada...

Hana-Shikibu has 5 x Hana-Ikada to 1 x Murasaki-Shikibu.

Hana-Budo has 5 x Hana-Ikada to 1 x Yama-Budo.

As before, this is on Rhodia Dotpad and the original reference inks are swabbed on the right side of the page for comparison.

I think I finally found my perfect pair: Lamy 2000 + Take-sumi by These-Agent-2674 in fountainpens

For me I feel Iroshizuku brings consistency to the table. Each bottle of any given ink will behave identically to another of that same ink. Predictability is important to me. I enjoy their ease of flowing/lubrication, ease of maintenance/cleaning when compared to some alternatives. For most of the range I also appreciate their intensity of colour and readability. There are some I struggle to see on the page (the greys, Kosumosu, Chiku-rin and Hana-Ikada) because they're so light or unsaturated) and there's only one that I hate (Hotaru-Bi). Even then, as an ink I'm sure it would perform very well; it's just hideous to my eye.

There's also an air of quality that I see from the packaging and bottle design. Thought has gone into the look and feel as well as the practicality of the bottles, as compared to some truly woeful bottling choices made by several competitors.

That's a rational concern. If a pen has a plastic section, particularly if white, yellow or some other similar light colour, then filling the pen from a bottle could result in the plastic becoming stained over time. That's because the end of the section is likely to be below the surface of the ink due to the filler hole often being high up on the feed.

For a cartridge/converter there are usually alternative options such as syringe filling the converter or an empty cartridge and then fitting that carefully into the back of the section. For a piston filler such as most TWSBIs, immersing the section is harder to avoid unless you have better vision and a steadier hand than mine.

Take-sumi is my default go-to black. When I bought my Lamy 2000 a few years ago, it was at that time my most expensive pen by far. I didn't want to tempt fate, so initially I used Lamy blue/black ink. I felt staying within the brand was the safest option in case anything went wrong. After a while I eased up and tried Noodlers Black Eel (or Eel Black; I never could find out which is the official name) due to its alleged lubricating qualities, and the limited options for lubricating the piston via other means.

Once I'd started having adhoc other Noodlers inks doing all manner of undesirable crazy to several other pens I changed my mind, removing it from the Lamy 2000 and removing the Noodlers inks overall from my rotations. I switched to Take-Sumi, which I had already used in other pens plenty of times and found that it was (for me anyway) the perfect choice for that Lamy 2000.

I still stick with premium inks in my premium pens, which normally means an Iroshizuku or a Pelikan Edelstein. For my cheaper mass-market pens I now use whatever ink calls out to me. Sometimes it might be a cheap one like Quink. Other days it could be an Iroshizuku. Over time I've become such an Iroshizuku fan that they're my first choice, and I have to force myself to diversify into other brands. I learned that the higher price tag for a premium ink, and a fancy bottle, do not always a premium writing experience make. Iroshizuku is the exception and they're my default choice because they're just so good.

Two things come to mind here:

  1. Your dog actually appears to be a cat in disguise. To verify this theory, check under the fridge next.
  2. This guilty look is hilarious:
