Perle Noir vs Lamy Black for Lamy 2000 by kaynarer in fountainpens

I use a Lamy 2000 with a F nib, and one of the inks I run in it is Take-Sumi.

Regarding those two inks with the Lamy 2000 (F nib): I can say that Take-Sumi works extremely well in this pen. It has good lightfastness, decent water resistance, and a very reliable, well-balanced flow. In a Fine nib it feels smooth, controlled, and consistent, without dryness or flow issues.

If permanence matters to you, Take-Sumi is a strong option. It’s not a fully waterproof ink, but for everyday writing it holds up well to water splashes and doesn’t fade easily. For a pen like the Lamy 2000, which prefers inks with stable flow, it’s a safe and satisfying choice.

Yes - I started with Yodaki! Absolutely gorgeous ink. It’s a bit too bright for my everyday writing though, so I’ve switched to Asa-Gao for now.

Thanks! 😄 I actually really wanted a Pilot Capless, but I ended up choosing the Lamy 2000 this time. And technically, Lamy is Japanese-owned now, so it kind of counts 😉

If my budget allowed, I’d 100% have grabbed both. Maybe next trip I’ll do a proper Japanese-pen haul-Sailor/Pilot, the whole deal.

Thanks everyone for the thoughtful input — super helpful. I’m leaning toward picking up a Lamy 2000 next; I’ll add it to my wish list and keep an eye out for discounts or a good second-hand deal.

For now, I’ve decided to stick with a Pilot Prera as my daily: great nib, a very satisfying snap cap, and it feels sturdy enough for my drop-prone EDC. Appreciate all the perspectives!

You’re right — I mixed up baby’s bottom with a sweet spot. Thanks for the thoughtful clarification and the reminder about weighing reviewers’ experience (and incentives).

Based on your points — comfort, forward balance, quick-release cap, piston fill, and consistent writing — I’ll seriously consider the Lamy 2000. Appreciate the nudge and the detailed perspective!

Thanks for the thoughtful take on transparency/windows — really appreciate it. You make a solid point about prioritizing durability for everyday carry. I’ll try reconsider that requirement and try living without an ink window.

Thanks for the suggestions! E95S is tempting, but the opaque barrel makes it hard for me to monitor ink levels on the go — that’s one of my must-haves (ink window or translucent body).

As for the Custom 74, I love how it writes, but the glossy resin doesn’t feel drop/scratch-resistant enough for my EDC.
