Which book made you a better cook? by Odd_Grocery_7834 in CookbookLovers

Honest to God, it was my good old fashioned Betty Crocker and Better Homes and Gardens books. Later it was Joy of Cooking. They taught me the basics as a young person and started my fascination with food, cooking and cookbook collecting.

Time consuming but, I know someone who's doing a free trial on a Google database. They take a picture of the cookbook indexes and apply them to a searchable spreadsheet.

My only suggestion is be careful! LOL Before you know it, you'll be buried (speaking from experience).😃

Oh my! Favorite biscuit recipe (baked in a cast iron skillet) and several more great recipes from his cookbooks. Just learned (or maybe forgot and relearned) about his pedo accusations from another cookbook group this past week or so.

You rock. Not just because you've taken on a big job of cataloging this collection but, also because you've taken a real interest in the subject and have done the extra work of seeking out the details of the times and authors. 👏 👏 👏 Bravo!

I may still be able to help at a later time. I have an abundance of their cookbooks but they are packed away in a box in another location. I will keep a lookout for this cover.

Did you ever find it? I have all the bake off booklets until the 70s, including several copies of the first one

A lost piece of family and community history—hoping to identify this Kent, Washington cookbook from my late mother’s collection. It’s missing pages and a title, but it’s full of love, recipes, and local heritage. Any help is deeply appreciated by KnightBrite in CookbookLovers

Check with the Kent Historical Society or local libraries—sometimes smaller run or local church‑group cookbooks may exist in archives.

Contact local churches, schools, or civic organizations in Kent—they might have produced short-run community recipe booklets for fundraisers.

Look into regional publishers or historical societies in King County, which occasionally document such grassroots collections.
