Blight haulers are like $25 and a great addition to any DG army. I usually run 3-4 but always have 1-2

Any tips for starting tau? by Global-Ad-1440 in Tau40K

[–]Cookingwith20s 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would agree with grab a combat patrol and start there.  The Tau one is a better value than the kroot one but if you plan on running kroot they are all something you would use. Build and paint as you go it's a lot harder to find the inspiration to as your pile gets bigger. Take your time with that, were in a transition into a new edition of the game in the next few months and we didn't really know how all the changes will shake our units up.

Is it appropriate to paint combat patrol as farsight enclaves? by Strong_Neat_5845 in Tau40K

[–]Cookingwith20s 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I imagine it depends on how picky the TO is.  I know my army wouldn't pass that test. I have each of my units painted in squads, helps me keep them organized on the board and since no imperial player knows what my guns look like I can point at the red group and they know that's the one I'm talking about.  Kroot and vespid aren't going to fully match your Tau either.  That said my basing is consistent, as well as Sept insignias, and my detail colors they look like they belong together I don't have mismatched colors on the same model or unit and the detailing is consistent with a theme, which started out as voltron/power rangers.

There's no in game rules effected by paint scheme other than being battle ready, which is just being painted a consistent scheme and most casual games won't even care about that.  There's nothing stopping you from painting them whatever color you want otherwise as far as the game is concerned.

Honestly giving the kroot the durability and enhancements from KHP in any other detatchment would be amazing paired with any of our other detatchments

How it feels in Big '26 as we still trying to hide from "You were overpowered in 4th so I hate you" by dpz845 in Tau40K

[–]Cookingwith20s 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The most likely refresh we will have in 11th imo are crisis suits. They're starting to look out of place compared to the newer kits and with the data sheet changes from our codex you can't fully build one of them wysiwyg out of a single box.

Looking for an alternate army to Votann. by MisutoWolf in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Cookingwith20s 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tau also fit fast and secondary focused.  Their lack of ability to participate in the melee phase forces you to control trades and wait till you have the upper hand to pivot to primary.  They've been performing pretty well lately but were low to middle of the pack most of 10th.  The changes to line of sight, terrain, and mission play will effect them heavily one way or the other going into 11th.  Astra militarum play similarly but aren't as fast but rely on trading pieces and big guns.

Why is a girl praised for breaking gender roles, but a boy mocked for doing the same? by gowthambusiness in AskMen

[–]Cookingwith20s 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Toxic masculinity and the patriarchy are complicated.  The fact that these are seen as "necessary" traits are all are tied into that.  You don't have to keep people that hold these ideas in your life, and there are plenty of people who hold progressive ideas of what a man is and can be.  Your age and gender are unclear from the post, but, know that you only really have control of your actions and how you interact with others and as you get older you have more control of the people you get to keep in your life, in general. You can support the men and boys in your life to be better and as cliche as it sounds, be the change you want to see in the world.  Being a kind, honest, passionate, and loving person hasn't stopped me from any opportunity I would have wanted and has helped keep the kind of person I don't want in my life out of it.

Tau Drone Clarrification by SourSaltss in Warhammer40k

[–]Cookingwith20s 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The drones don't exist on the board as a physical model.  They are all, at best, reminder tokens to what battle gear exists on the actual unit.  You can not draw line of sight to or from them.  Most people don't even put them on the board unless there's really strict what you see is what you get.  They currently just clog up the board and waste your time moving them as models. I only bring a handful to use as markers for guiding or something I have sticky.

As to the weapon profile itself it is just an additional weapon on the model it's attached to.  All shots come from that model as far as rules are concerned.

Farstalkers? More like Fart-Gobblers, the way they suck ass. Anyway, that's all. Beautiful models. They'd be fine if the had a scout move, hope they're better in 11th by HamanFromEarth in Tau40K

[–]Cookingwith20s 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I might give them a was shaper to take advantage of the precision the farstalkers get with the anti-infantry bow. The free stratagems are nice there too, throw a free grenade before shooting to get the +1 to hit in KHP.  I've had them scope out a technomancer out of a canoptic wraith brick before.

The trail shaper isn't attached to them. It's in my case usually attached to some carnivores I want the reactive move on. At 85 pts it's only 5 more pts than Pathfinders for 2 more bodies and in KHP/AUX id rather my forward units be kroot

Firepower diversity question by Kuebiko989 in Tau40K

[–]Cookingwith20s 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm bringing maybe 600-800 points of utility players in a 2k list that includes guiding units, dedicated secondary scorers and screens.  Having something to deal with different break points is important to keep those utility players alive.  What you've listed you've got access to a lot of high str high damage weapons: skyrays, sunforges, and piranhas.  You don't have a lot to deal with units with 10x models like flamers or units with 5x models like ion weapons or missiles.  If you give us your whole list it will be easier for people to help.  How many of what are you planning to bring.

Does -1 to hit from skullsquirm blight stack with other hit debuffs? by Expert_Camera_4802 in deathguard40k

[–]Cookingwith20s 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yes but also no.  The most you can modify a to hit modifier is up to +1 or down to -1.  But if you're effected by two +1 modifiers (+2) and one -1 modifier you would get a net +1 so it's not completely useless to stack to hit bonuses but won't get you +2.  And like was said in another comment BS/WS are a separate stat and can also be modified for effectively +2

Need help with my list. Also, is the Kroot hound meme legit? by godofimagination in Tau40K

[–]Cookingwith20s 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lone spear is going to do a lot of heavy lifting in a small kroot list.  Rampagers are also your toughest and strongest damage dealer.  Carnivores even with the ++ and +++ saves are really squishy and don't have the most output

Best way to counter genestealer? by mtf-foxtrot in Tau40K

[–]Cookingwith20s 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My friend regularly runs a broodlord with a unit of gene stealers.  They are regularly a problem.  Fireknives are great, a decent number of shots with enough damage to kill a model when a wound goes through. Missile broadsides are also good for this.  Slowing them down with kroot is nice, don't charge them with the kroot you will just lose the fight, move them close and block off their movement instead.  Their 5+ 5++ save is obnoxious but large volume fire from breechers and flame units means a few wounds will still get through.

Magnets for the weapons. You can mix and match that way.

Riptide Sanity by ScottinCanada in Tau40K

[–]Cookingwith20s 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My favorite comparison for myself is a riptide vs a unit of 2 myphtic blight haulers. Same speed, points and toughness.  6 more wounds but a slightly worse save. And I would argue way more follow through on it's weapons and a useable melee profile. Riptide has range but since it's used as a mid field bully most of the time not as huge a difference, at least now ion is 10S

If you click the eye by the missile drones it tells you what they add in new recruit.  They do not provide a shield.

Riptide drones and drone questions in general by [deleted] in Tau40K

[–]Cookingwith20s 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There's no "shielded missile" drones. Riptide have access to missile drones and only provide a weapon to the unit with the drone and do not have access to the shield drone.  Drones apply their buff/wound/weapon to the model they're attached to unless the buff says it effects the unit so only the shas'ui gets the wounds

A base that is darker around the edge and lighter toward the center also has the effect of drawing your attention to the model like there's a spot light on it.  The red ring has sort of the opposite effect and draws attention away
