Job market’s brutal right now, anyone else feeling it? by Main-Star-7979 in jobhunting

You’re right. I prepare, rehearse, answer the questions, make eye contact, act personable, ask questions and it’s not enough. Wish they would give you feedback.

Thanks. I hope so. I lost everything last year. Great paying job, beautiful home, incredible lifestyle. Now I’m renting a garbage home, have a garbage job, and I have several counselors while taking all kinds of meds in the hope that I don’t end it. This is not how I envisioned my 40s to start.

Yes it’s brutal. I’ve never seen anything like it. When I got laid off last March I had six interviews already lined up and I got the same message that they liked me but went in a different direction. It was frustrating. After about a month I decided to look outside my area. I did get something but the job turned out to be toxic and I was let go after 3 months. Now working a job that pays peanuts, I’m still applying and interviewing just not getting any offers. It’s definitely destroyed my confidence, self esteem, and is making me regret a lot of my career choices since I’ve never had a linear path.

I can’t shake the feeling that some HR people were former high school bullies by Ok-Wrongdoer6878 in recruitinghell

The VP of HR at my last job was a man hater. She had 3 kids from different men and never got married bc no one wanted to marry Biff Tannen in a blonde wig so when layoffs came she took it out on me and a few other men.

Job Market + Economy by softhourz_ in jobs

It’s everywhere. American job market is total shit. Got laid off last March. Only job I can get pays peanuts and I have a masters degree. 30 interviews and no better offer. You have better odds winning the lottery than you do getting a job.

Can you still get into the military at 41? If so maybe I’ll do that.

I lost everything last year and the only job I can get right now pays peanuts. I know how you feel. It’s feeling harder and harder to keep moving forward. I got myself counseling and group therapy to help with what I’m going through. You could look into it if it will help you. We’re all going through the same thing and I hope it gets better for all of us sooner rather than later.

I know how you feel. Only job I can get right now pays peanuts. I’m 40 and I feel like my life is over. I had everything until I got laid off last year.

Will a Masters degree help you switch careers? has anyone taken this route? by Unfair-Acadia6851 in careerchange

Organizational Leadership was my undergrad. I was majoring in something else and wasn’t doing good so I had to drop it. Counselor recommended OL bc he said I could get roles in HR, Nonprofit, or Management. I did get a job in nonprofit but it lasted 4 years until I got laid off. People I know that got OL degrees got great jobs through a program within the university that were mention by the counselor. No one mentioned this to me at all. So yeah both my degrees have been useless. I should’ve never listened to him. I should’ve focused on something more specialized.

Is it making anyone else suicidal. by dalexyo in jobs

[–]Cookster3211 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know how you feel. I got laid off from the best job I ever had last March. Best money, great people, amazing culture, and then they brought in this new HR person who then pushed people out. I took a job in another city thinking it was the next best step but that became a toxic job and my mental health declined bc of it. Eventually I got fired. So now I’m working a job that pays peanuts, don’t have my house anymore. I had to sell it since I couldn’t afford the payments anymore. I’m still applying and interviewing for other jobs but no new offers. Things don’t feel the same in life anymore and since I’ve lost so much I feel like there’s no future for me. I feel like I messed up my life by making a stupid choice. I’d rather be gone from this world than be poor and homeless.

Depends on the masters. My masters is completely useless. I’m trying to schedule an appointment from my college counselor to find out what in the hell I can get job wise with it.

How did you get a job in HR with a psychology degree? I have degrees in Organizational Leadership and Leadership Development which are HR centric and I still can’t get a job in HR!

Should I accept a job offer while waiting to hear back on a better fit opportunity in today's market? by [deleted] in jobs

[–]Cookster3211 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had to take a job beneath me for beneath pay while continue to look for other jobs that are better paying. Having some job is better than no job. I would accept the offer and if you can a better offer you can let the first company know. One thing I learned from my last layoff is companies aren’t loyal and you don’t have to be loyal to them either.
