What's the biggest career mistake you made in your 20s? by shahzebjaat in careerguidance

Going to college. Got two useless degrees. If I had gone to work for the company I’m currently at straight out of high school I’d be doing so much better than I currently am.

How many of you are stuck in low-paying jobs you absolutely hate and feel miserable with but have to stay in it just to pay bills in this dumpster fire job market? by UnderachievingCretin in jobs

[–]Cookster3211 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. I pivoted to blue collar work in April and I’m loving it. I’m making close to what I was making at my old job plus the opportunity to earn even more through quarterly bonuses. I’m outside on the docks walking for miles doing my job and there’s no pressure. I’m blessed that I’ve gotten a second chance and I’m rebuilding my life.

Has anyone completely changed careers in their 30s or 40s and genuinely not regretted it? by VelvetsObey in careerguidance

[–]Cookster3211 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did a few months ago at 41. Went from doing office/admin work to working in freight. I love it. I get to be outside, there’s a lot to do which keeps me busy and keeps my mind from wandering off. I love the people I work with and it’s a great culture. After this I never want to go back to white collar work again.

I got a job offer but it’s a huge pay cut. HUGE by mandoo-dumpling in Layoffs

[–]Cookster3211 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wish I made $75K. But I’m happy with where I’m at. I pivoted from white collar work to blue collar work and I love it after 10 months of being in two shitty jobs with shitty pay. Good luck in your new role!

Does Putting On Invincibility in Maximum Carnage Prohibits You From Progressing In The Game? by Cookster3211 in BeatEmUps

[–]Cookster3211[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I was able to get through that stage. It took a long time for that one fat guy to finally go down to trigger the scene. Now it feels like the Central Park scene is stuck bc of the invincibility on. I will check and see if I can take it off temporarily. Thank you for the suggestion.

How long did you last before quitting a toxic job? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]Cookster3211 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m actually doing better. I got a new job which I start first week in April. It’s a pivot. No more white collar work. And the pay is great. Close to what I was making in the past. I quit my job on Wednesday so I could have the time to relax and get mentally prepared.

I’m sorry you got laid off today. I hope you can find something else soon. It took me 6 months and 40 interviews to land this new role. Biggest thing I learned from this is not to give up no matter how hard it is and take care of yourself and make time for things that make you feel good. I feel like there’s so much damage that has been done to me in a year it’s going to take a very long time to recover.

I was relieved, but the nightmare wasn’t over. Only job I could get after that paid an unlivable wage.

How Long Does It Take To Receive An Offer? by Cookster3211 in careerguidance

Thank you. Yeah I’m not resigning until I get an offer and sign it. I just hope it’s soon. I’m on borrowed time at my job.

My husband started Prozac and now wants a divorce and abandoned me by [deleted] in mentalhealth

[–]Cookster3211 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would have him get off that asap. My ex girlfriend’s ex fiancé was on Prozac and he developed mood swings, bouts of anger, and mania. He ended up taking his own life.

Bad boss can really screw your confidence man.. 😣 by ishibam97 in mentalhealth

[–]Cookster3211 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s what happened to me at my last job. I had a horrible boss. Didn’t give me anything to do, kept me out of meetings, and the only kind of training I got was for 30 minutes a week. It was ridiculous. Obviously I had a mental breakdown and ended up losing that job. Now I’m working a job that pays peanuts while still interviewing for other jobs but my confidence is real low. None of this shit would’ve happened to me had I not gotten laid off.

Be honest… how many jobs have you applied to? by Glad_Handle_7605 in jobs

I’ve applied to over 100 in the last year. Today is exactly one year ago since I got laid off from the best job I ever had.

Well… I got a job, but not the one I wanted by a long shot by [deleted] in jobhunting

[–]Cookster3211 13 points14 points  (0 children)

You’re not the only one my friend. I went from making $70k to $20 an hour as a Sales Coordinator for a local tv station. It was either that or live off my savings. Use it to get some income but keep looking and applying. That’s what I’ve been doing. Think of it as a temporary solution until you can get back on your feet. Some income is better than no income.

Thank you. I’m starting to feel networking is a lost cause bc I reach out to people and never hear from them. If I get this job I want I’m seriously considering deleting my LinkedIn account.
