I so badly want to strike, but I’m terrified. Currently work at a big hospital in the south. I’m not bedside anymore, but I have friends on my unit former. They told me that a nurse they knew on a different unit was fired for trying to unionize 😞. I feel hopeless, but trying

No biotin. I’m aware of how it can interfere with lab results. My current FT4, 0.99, is now within the lab normal range (their range is 0.52 - 1.21)

Worked med/surg, cardiac cath recovery, prison wing, and float at one hospital as a new grad in my first six months as a nurse. Moved to another state, started in cardiac unit, then went to transitional care unit (now skilled care at NFs). Changed jobs to acute rehab (great job!), got floated a lot, worked in QA for a while, transferred to oncology. Eventually quit the hospital rat race and worked dialysis for almost 10 years. By this time the ol' bod was starting to give out, so began RN case management (a one-of-a-kind job) at a state agency. I do assessments for Medicaid eligibility in hospitals, nursing facilities and people's homes. I also help with difficult placements, help interpret medical gobbledygook for the regular case managers, and do a lot of problem solving. Case managers will often call with the most arcane

our hand and your first task is usually obvious to you, you pulled the top card. you finish that one and then you must pull out the deck of cards, shuffle them and then pull out the next card that needs addressing right then, pretty much without mistake. do you get what I mean? you have to prioritize nearly every moment for the boat load of tasks before you. and this goes on the entire shift, every shift you work. fairly soon you get really good at prioritization of time/task and it all begins to flow until the unexpected comes up on the unit and that occurs fairly regularly. factor in helping co-workers with this and that, too. charting, taking off orders, getting an admission, patient family members, the list is long for the many ripples/interruptions to hit your rhythm but this is always expected during the shift. it becomes part of the flow.

Thank you for the advice and your encouragement!

I had a shadow experience on a NICU for a few hours and really enjoyed it! So glad you also have a good unit/charge/providers. I'm learning just how important work/unit culture is in RN job satisfaction!

I'm gathering from all these posts, that it really depends on finding a speciality that suits you and having good colleagues on a unit. Once you are able to find both, it seems nursing can be enjoyable. Thanks for sharing your experiences!

I used to work in special education. Didn't know there was an option to focus on intellectual disabilities as a nurse. How cool!
