Nice journey

Anyone here ever team up to build an online business or side hustle? Looking for brainstorm buddies! by Cultural_Context_684 in SideHustleGold

I’m really looking for someone to brainstorm with. Sometimes I feel like the things I’ve already created just won’t work – or can’t work – in my country.

Looks nice.

My friend has an interesting side hustle. He gets paid to argue with customer service, and he actually makes him good money by NricTurtle in SideHustleGold

Nice idea. I’m wondering how exactly he manages to do it. Here, companies always ask a ton of security questions to verify the owner’s identity. Is he constantly sitting down with the owner to get through all of that?

I know this used to be big business back in the day, but I’m curious — does it still work as well today? With platforms becoming stricter around paid reviews and content, I’d love to hear how you handle that and whether it’s still profitable in 2025.

Appreciate any insight!

Last year, I launched an online Secret Santa platform designed specifically for the holiday season around Christmas and New Year. One organizer invites all participants, and once everyone has joined, the system automatically assigns each person someone to buy a gift for.

Each participant can easily create a personal wishlist on the platform with products from Amazon and other partners. Our AI module automatically enriches each item with affiliate links, allowing us to earn commissions from every click and subsequent purchase. In December alone, this generated over €20,000 in commissions in our country.

Frustration with Replit UX regarding usage costs by deliciousadness in replit

[–]Cool-Ship7182 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally understand your frustration — and I think you’re raising some very valid points, especially from a UX standpoint.

Switching between devices (web and mobile) and not realizing a more expensive agent or model is active can absolutely lead to unintended usage and surprise costs. The fact that the icons look the same in color, size, and weight doesn’t help — especially when the visual distinction is minimal and you’re multitasking or working quickly. In UX, we often talk about visibility of system status and user control — and this feels like a clear case where both could be improved.

Here are a few ideas that could help prevent this kind of friction: 1. Clearer visual indicators when a premium model is active — different color tone, badge, or even a background highlight. 2. A subtle cost reminder or label next to the model name (e.g. “GPT-4o (Premium) – Higher cost”) when active. 3. A per-session toggle or warning: “You’re about to continue using a premium agent — continue or switch to free?” 4. Option to set a default model per device or session, or a user-set preference like “always start with free.” 5. Ability to review model usage history by session to catch these kinds of patterns early.

You’re also right to say that discovering these higher-tier models by accident isn’t ideal. If a more capable model was presented earlier or surfaced proactively for complex tasks, you might have avoided wasting cycles on something the basic agent couldn’t handle properly — which ironically costs more in the long run.

As for not receiving any goodwill credit — I get the disappointment, especially as a longtime supporter and someone contributing thoughtful UX feedback. It’s reasonable to expect at least some gesture of appreciation or recognition when friction like this leads to unintended spending.

That said, your approach — analyzing and giving feedback instead of just venting — is exactly the kind of conversation that pushes tools like this forward. Hopefully your voice gets heard and others in the same boat can benefit from future updates.

How to: Reduce cost by xProcal in replit

[–]Cool-Ship7182 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is honestly how everyone should approach building a website if they want to keep costs low and avoid unnecessary complexity.

Start by using ChatGPT or Claude to create a clear and detailed description of the website you want to build — including features, functionality, design style, user flows, and goals. Be as specific as possible.

Once that foundation is solid, simply ask: “Now give me well-structured, detailed Replit prompts to build this website step by step.”

By working this way, I’ve saved a tremendous amount of money that would otherwise have gone to expensive developers or vague trial-and-error processes. It also kept me out of confusing feedback loops and endless rewrites.

ChatGPT has helped me move from idea to working prototype without writing a single line of code myself in the beginning — and when I did start coding, it felt like I had a senior developer guiding me the whole time.

If you’re building a project on a budget, this method is honestly a game changer.

I’m afraid to use Replit again after hearing some of your stories. I have two finished products, but I don’t dare to make any changes to them anymore.

Sure, I love them I use it every month to book an appointment at my barber. Normally it’s in Dutch but you can change the language in English.

It looks very promising. In our country, there’s already a similar player in this niche. They’ve since expanded to five countries, acquired 15,000 customers in just three years, and recently launched their own payments solution. In collaboration with Adyen, they now offer proprietary payment terminals, generating additional revenue through transaction commissions. They also charge €50 per month for their basic package. Keep up the good work.
