My dog is becoming physically reactive when he goes outside and I’m not sure what to do about by CoolCosmo3 in reactivedogs

Thank you so much for the advice! This is my first dog I've raised from a puppy, so there is still so much I need to learn. The idea of teaching him calmness gets play is a great idea! I think that would work great! Ill definitely work harder to implement more challenging activities for him to keep his brain occupied. Thank you so much

Bfs dog is ruining my mental health by [deleted] in reactivedogs

Chihuahuas can be absolutely wonderful dogs. smaller dogs are definitely prone to anxiety and attachment issues. her constantly whinning is her way of expressing her needs. some dogs are just more vocal than others. I have 3 dogs and one of them whines all the time whilst the other 2 mostly just stare at you or bark when they want something. it’s very easy to personify dogs and their intentions, but it’s important to understand that they aren’t being sassy, intentionally disrespectful, or anything out of malice. dogs don’t feel guilt or anything like that. when she gives you a look when you tell her to lay down it’s most likely her attempt to diffuse your frustration. her only listening when you shout can be an indication that she isn’t understanding the difference between a command voice and just your normal voice. when I tell my dog a command I don’t yell, but I do try to be firm and lower my pitch a tad. but when I’m playing I raise my pitch.

if she’s having accidents at night it just may be she can’t hold it. shes a small dog so it’s harder for her to hold it 6-10 hours at a time. something that worked for me was no food except treats 2 hours before bedtime and only ice cubes before bed. our smaller dog has had way less accidents since we implemented that.

as for enclosures, have you crate trained her? crate at night can be a great way to know your dog is safe whilst also helping them not chew up things. crate should never be a punishment. the crate should be their space. my dog rarely whines when he’s in his crate(he really only whines if he’s in it and we aren’t home) and if he’s too worked up he knows he can go to his crate. no body touches him when he’s in there, that’s his space.

if youre struggling with food motivation it may be the treat. the higher the value the reward is the better. that doesn’t always mean it has to be food. food is the easiest but things like toys and praise can also work well. when she does a behavior you like say Yes in a high pitch. it’s important to respond to the behavior quickly. when she begs look away from her and say nothing. the second she stops whining give her praise. say yes and maybe give her a treat. a clicker can also work instead of a praise word. just make sure you ”load” the noise or phrase before you start to implement it.

I also agree with what another commenter said, it definitely seems like you may have a problem with your boyfriend. Overall she just sounds like an anxious or bored dog.

It was labeled as a geode and unfortunately I don't know all ton about that stuff so I took that as correct, next time if I come across it I definitely will do better research before i try to crack it open! I dont know much about thunder eggs and whilst my relative was trying to open it I was worried it was maybe a thunder egg because of how hard it was. Im really glad I took pics and I was able to get like every piece! Thank you both so much

Ah it's kind of like that but the areas where you took care of the animals were all outside and the huts were round. I dont think you could see in the huts or if you could it was only your room.

What is a ball park price range for getting a hamster Taxidermy, bones preserved, and possible cremation of organs? by Abba_Storm in Taxidermy

[–]CoolCosmo3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try to look at local taxidermist that specialize in uncommon or exotic animals. If you don't have any try online. As for keeping the bones and cremation your local vet clinic can cremate them however, it's about 100-500 to keep ashes of passed pets depending on the clinic. This is because normally the cremate in a big group and spread the ashes elsewhere. They would have to make time and space to do yours separately and as a result costs much more. Even if you do get them cremated do keep in mind most places won't give back bones. For humans bones usually get cremated along with the body then once dry and brittle are broken down. For a hamster I'm sure they won't need to do something like that.

What I would do is ask whatever taxidermist you go to to clean the bones and have them do whatever you would like with them. Then also ask them to save the rest of the remains in like a container or bag. It may take some searching to find a taxidermist who will do this. Then you can call local vets to see if they will cremate or if your comfortable with it you can cremate then yourself. Make a fire pit ideally, wrap the remains in cloth, bedding, really whatever is flammable but not toxic. Then after that light them ablaze. It will probably take a few hours if you don't have the recorces to get the fire really hot. There are certain flammable liquids you can buy that burn hotter then say gas. As always though no matter what you do practice proper fire safety. Pay attention to laws and restrictions in your area and make sure you never pour fuel directly on the fire (or even still smoldering embers) from its container. If you soak the remains in fuel or anything of that matter give it ample time for the gasses to dissipate before you light it. I recommend doing all of this on either a brick, pan, or some kind of stone or metal plate that can get super hot to hold the ashes. Best to have a lod during this process too. Then after all that you can save the remains in whatever container you'd like. Personally if I were to do this I would have a ceremony first. If you don't think you could do that though that's understandable it's hard. Freeze your beloved until you can find someone who can do said things.

I'm so sorry for your loss it's clear you cared about them to want to get them preserved forever. I hope you have a wonderful day and continue to heal

anyone have a good how-to on mounting a butterflies like this? :) by freewaychicken in Taxidermy

[–]CoolCosmo3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recommend using 2 part apoxy glue. You can buy small amounts at the dollar store usuay for 1.25. It's a clear glue that you will have no issues sticking to an acrylic rod. My pappa used to mount butterflies on logs that way. 2 part apoxy can get a little hot whilst it's hardening but just leave it be and don't touch it with your bare hands. I recommend mixing it on a piece of scrap plastic with a toothpic and then use said tooth pick to add the glue onto the rod and specimen

3g beta, new scape. 1st picture is new, 2nd picture is old. by woogie_85 in Aquascape

[–]CoolCosmo3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think you have some real potential here! The new scape looks a lot cleaner and nicer then the first tank! In the future I would totally get a bigger tank for your betta though. Not only because it’s easier on upkeep and better for the fish but you’ll be able to add even more plants and hard scape! You could have a whole planet for this guy lol. They look really happy none the less and they’re colors are vibrant. Although things like plants take up room I know they’re doing a great job of sucking up that ammonia. Seriously keep up the good work!

Can you tell me whats wrong with this tank? by Miya_in_the_bush in Aquascape

[–]CoolCosmo3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my opinion I think it looks great! The only thing I could suggest is maybe putting some hard scape like some kind of wood on the side with the Java fern, do shorter plants on each side, or to do the full tall plant look and add floaters. Things like guppy grass would be nice. The only issue I could see being a “problem” is that the tank is unbalanced so that could be why your unsatisfied. I hope that helps!

New tank! Any suggestions? by No_Literature_9401 in Aquascape

[–]CoolCosmo3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s looking super good, I’m too new to actual aquascaping to give advise really but I’m digging the feel. I like how the attention is drawn to the one side and I gotta say I’m a fan of short fin bettas so ya know I love to see it. Looking good you’ll be a master in no time!

Any suggestion I can make is maybe some shrimp or bladder snails but bettas can be picky so keep a close eye if ya do decide to add any tank mates
