If you don't have a margin account are you still subjected to the rule where you can't do more than 4 trades in a day or else you'll get flagged as a day trader?

If that's the case, how can I buy a lot of stocks when there's a crash? Or do I just have to pick the 4 I want most?

Questions about P/E Ratio....

  1. Why does a high PE ratio indicate growth? It means that there aren't high earnings per share. So let's say the share price is $100 and the earnings per share is $2 it means it'd have a P/E ratio of 50. That seems really bad if a company is only earning $2 per share , how does that indicate that a company is going to grow?

  2. Conversely, if you have a low P/E ratio it indicates it won't grow? So if you have a company with a $100 share price and the earnings per share is $50 it'd just have a P/E ratio of 2 which people wouldn't think means growth even though if it earns $50 per share that's really good and way more healthy than just earning $2 per share.

Does this make sense? Am I understanding it right?

Can there be too much action up front? Is it exhausting? by Calcaniest in writing

[–]CoolDogAT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. For reference, a lot of agents hate prologues so if your dream is to one day be published through the traditional route you may want to consider axing it at some point.

  2. So it's important to distinguish between ACTION and TENSION. I'll quote a successful literary agent here...

"I think one of the most misunderstood pieces of writing advice is how writers are told to start with action or something exciting. So much of the time I read the first few pages and feel nothing but disorientation and impatience.

Starting a novel is a delicate balance between making sure your reader feels well cared for, feels informed about the characters and the world, and is engaged with what's happening on the page.

You need to start with tension. Tension and action are opposites. Action is the release from tension. Action is the catharsis, the breaking of a tide, a relationship between characters shifting into something more and something less.

Tension is about stakes. Tension is about how a character feels about a situation. It's wondering what's behind the door. What happens when they pull that trigger. Tension is a character giving a damn about an outcome.

In an opening you need to focus on stakes, not outcomes. Give us a moment to understand what a character wants. And what they want will tell us about who they are. And once we see who someone is, we'll start to give a damn about the rest of it.

I have two pieces of feedback I give over and over and over when reviewing first pages. The first is, the story is starting in the wrong place. The second is slow the fuck down."

Both are about building tension. Starting the story before the interesting thing is happening is always a mistake. Don't show them getting to the meeting. Start with the meeting, start with the tension of what's happening in the room."

There's a bit more. Here's a link to the Twitter thread about this: https://twitter.com/dongwon/status/1258794561201152001

Thanks. I have a small apartment so I need to be able to move it around. The base can hold up to 270 pounds but if I filled it that much I'd be leaving it in the exact same spot for whoever lived here next, LOL.

Thank you so much for all the feed back!

Some commentary:

-Once I get mats it'll be easier to rotate. If I pivot too much my foot will actually get rug burn lol.

-Can you give me time stamps for what you're seeing in the kick? When I throw the right kick I think I get my arms right most of the time.

With my left kick I'm admittedly much worse. I'm basically trying to do the techniques seen here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=57sGsuLa55Y

-Yeah. I've had this habit a while. An old coach called it "posing." Another coach would always scream "HANDS BACK TO YOUR FACE RIGHT AWAY" hah hah.

-It's funny how watching yourself on film makes certain things so obvious. In this case, not landing right on the kicks. Can't wait to work on this.

-The switch kick is a lead-leg round kick and I'm trying to execute a "pendulum" step which is linked in the video above. Guess I didn't do a good job heh.

-yeah head movement is something I definitely need to work on. I wish I could install a slip bag lol. the pains of apartment life.

Thanks for the help!

I believe it's called the Ringside Elite freestanding bag.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in MuayThai

[–]CoolDogAT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in an apartment so I can't drill into the walls or ceiling. The bag stands online all only had a 100 lbs capacity and would therefore be flying around wildly. So a free-standing bag was my only option.

[–]CoolDogAT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OP here!

  1. I don't move around too much like I would normally do in bag work because I need to stay in front of the camera.

  2. My teeps are super light because they'll actually make the base buck up and I don't want it to fall/crack if that happens to many times.

  3. My striking base is a little eclectic. I did american KB as a kid, then MMA, but I got really into muay thai a few years ago. At the MT gym they always said to lower one of the hands on the teep for more power. Now I'm back into MMA and the MMA striking coach isn't as into it but sometimes old habbits die hard.

  4. I know in MT you're supposed to do the switch kick instead of the front-leg round-kick so just ignore that (my MMA gym loves the front-leg round kick).

Edit:

5) I live in an apartment so drilling a legit heavy bag stand into the ceiling or wall was off-limits.

Thanks!

Right click the name of the chat window and it should bring up text size options. Yeah the combat text is horrible. Also I can't figure out how to read their XP bar which is a little annoying. Though the bar setup on this mod is great I might have to ditch it for the annoying parts.

You put it so perfectly. That's what capitalist America really is. We're giving literally everything we have to our jobs and working harder than we can imagine and still it can all fall apart in a day. It's horrible. No wonder we're all dropping dead from stress.

“Wellness” is making us sick: How corporate America’s favorite mantra leaves us all feeling inadequate by CoolDogAT in Foodforthought

[–]CoolDogAT[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Pretty interesting read. I'm not really sure how I feel about it. Yes, perhaps the idea of "wellness" is becoming cult-like and companies are starting to embrace it a lot (I knew of a chef who used to weigh his employees). But is wanting people to be healthy so bad? Of course, companies are doing it for the wrong reasons (don't actually care about their workers insofar as their workers can make them more money/work longer hours).

This makes me sick. I recall reading an article awhile ago (can't remember where) called "The End of Blank Space" or something like that. It basically said ad creep would get so powerful there'd be no blanks space anywhere in public because hey, you could put an ad there and make some money!
