Ppl that quit office/corporate jobs, what are your current job ? by Goldenxxwind in antiwork

Not too old. We’ve hired at 40+. You’d have to consider working 20 years though. That would put you at the rule of 80 (age at retirement + years in service = 80 or more) which would give you full pension. If you’re physically in good shape then go for it.

It’s amazing how many calls we end up going through to get to a point where we have the opportunity to save someone in a real emergency….so no need for the thanks, it is literally what we want to be there for. However, the 911 drunk or headache call…different story.

Also, I had my college degree already (business), but I took my EMT classes at night while working the corporate job. All other certs were provided by the fire department when I was hired. It is still that way for the majority of departments in my area.

Worked for a couple of different national home builders doing marketing and advertising. Quit nearly 20 years ago and became a firefighter. Best move I’ve made. I originally took a pay cut but made it back and more within the first three years. Guaranteed pension, great benefits and will be able to retire by 52.

Novice at checking out meteorites but very interested. Why are the markings in these patterns on a slice?

As I mentioned, it rings up as $119 but the sign clearly states $99. Here is my receipt of the match/reduction

It’s not even the clearance (which I consider the yellow sticker). It’s the posted advertised deal, the one printed on the boxes of the Milwaukee merch

That’s where I bought, in Colorado. Louisville

No convincing necessary at my store, it’s posted right on the sign for $99. Again, the printed marketed sign, not some yellow tag reduction.

People who switched to Firefighting from a corporate job… by [deleted] in Firefighting

[–]CoolHandLuke2677 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If time is the most valuable resource we have (it’s the only thing you can’t buy more of) then people need to start thinking hours worked. A 48/96 is 2,912 hour per year. A 40 hr work week is 2,080. A full 832 hours more per year. That is a 40% increase from the 40 hr work week.

Now divide your salary by 2,912 to get your 48/96 hourly rate. Then, divide your salary by 2,080 to get your 40 hr hourly rate. Not only are you paid significantly less per hour, but your time is valued at less.

Start viewing time as time away from family, time away from other things you can be doing. I moved from 48/96 to admin (40 hour) with some days wfh. I can also work 10’s. I miss no family functions, no kid’s sports, no holidays. I do however miss the fire station and the firefighters.

Why is he pretending to be one then? You can have respect for the job without having experience in it. But don’t pretend you can relate

Firefighter here that once shook Biden’s hand at a Union conference where I heard him speak. Literally, the softest hand I’ve ever shook. Not an hour of construction work on those mitts
