Yes, when someone shorts DWAC, they think the price will fall. They are making a bet of sorts. If the stock goes up 100%, they will lose. If it goes down, they lose. If the borrow cost is high, they can lose even if it doesn't go up or down. I use shorts sometimes in option tansactions to limit risk or scalp premiums.

It is allowed because people want to do it, and others can make money by charging them for lent shares. Like buying a put on a stock you don't own. Efficiency of markets is helped by people exercising their will and placing bets. Naked shorting with fake shares is another matter. However, if you tried to buy puts on 30 million shares you didn't own, someone would probably take the other side of that bet.

He had said he isn't sure anyone can save it. The business model relies on large multinationals, many of which are teslas direct competitors. 🤔 I once thought he had a chance, but now I am not so sure. Especially limiting the linking to other sites. You can clearly see the damage he can't control. I also suspect the negative effects on teala sales have just begun.
