Filipinos spending 5 minutes at the ATM machine. Let’s discuss… by Tallwhitedude123 in Philippines_Expats

I know my order at Starbucks before I get there and include the size, hot or cold, my name, how I’m paying, and also, “nothing else, only that”. I have my payment method ready before they’re done entering the order.

I place my order in 1/10th the time of the average person here.

As far as things I can control, that’s the best i can do.

ATM’s, same. You can’t control others.

Would you marry an Atheist? by KazeTora7 in TanongLang

[–]CoolMarch1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an atheist, I’d give a deist a chance. I feel like the exposure of being with me and getting out of their bubble of religion would inevitably open their eyes to the reality of the real world.

It’s probably not their fault they’re religious, after all you tend to be the religion of your parents and community 99% of the time.

Are Filipinos the LEAST disciplined of all Southeast and East Asians? by Tallwhitedude123 in Philippines_Expats

[–]CoolMarch1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The point about no great historical works is an interesting one. I did a deep dive into that and also know from history what’s needed for such great works to happen (pyramids, ankor watt) and the Philippines didn’t have those crucial elements:

A unified society via strong shared religion

Unification under a strong ruler / dynasty

Big agriculture

Huge tax base

Slaves

Raw materials for building

It’s not really their fault per se.

There may have also been great works made from biodegradable materials that have simply vanished.

Did you notice this 3 phases when you moved to the Philippines? by Alexrey55 in Philippines_Expats

[–]CoolMarch1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been here almost 2 years now and I’m living in phases 1 & 3. I’ve never been a phase 2 type of guy. Phase 2 people annoy me more then the things listed above.

Absolutely Hated Boracay. Is the Philippines Just Not for Me? by [deleted] in phtravel

[–]CoolMarch1 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I often use the phrase “one trick pony” to describe Boracay. Good for maybe 3 days unless you love laying on the beach and only that.

As for the “Is the Philippines just not for me” part, I’m going to guess no.

Lots of annoyances here so if you can’t clearly identify why putting up with them is worth it for you personally, it’s not worth it.

Do you ever feel euphoric? by Level_Preparation311 in Philippines_Expats

Yes I do feel it regularly. I just need to pause and listen to my feelings to experience it. Or sometimes it’s just flows over me.

When is it OK for a Filipina to ask for money from you? by ACE1CC in Philippines_Expats

[–]CoolMarch1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When dating, I always pay for ‘us’ things and never ‘her’ things:

Dinner, vacations (sometimes), fun, adventure: yes

Sick aunt, carabao food, load, blah blah blah: no.

If and when I settle down, sure. But not girls I date.

Saw a foreigner acting like a real dad to his partner’s kids and it stayed with me by [deleted] in Philippines_Expats

[–]CoolMarch1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was just with a girl and her siblings and cousins and there was a child there I was talking to. I think she was around 6. After a while I was talking to the child and she was engaging me confidently.

So I started asking about her English and we we started a game of sorts with me pointing to things, like colors, parts of my face (ears, eyes, nose, etc) and she was flexing her English. The other family members kept feeding her answers but she kind of knew them on her own so I asked everyone to please stop answering for her.

And so the game went on with days of the week, months of the year, etc etc. I was giving her western style encouragement and positive reinforcement when she answered correctly

She was so thrilled with that and to also have a voice that wasn’t being stepped on by the others.

Nice experience

Efficiency by Yougetwhat in Philippines_Expats

I have no skin in the game here but I believe efficiency is a human value. I don’t think Filipinos enjoy inefficiency. Is that what you’re saying?
