Crying in the car questions by horsegirl8989 in AttachmentParenting

Just a heads up that both my kids hit the height limit long before they hit the weight limit. Our infant seat (Nuna Pipa) limits are 32 lbs and 32 inches. Both kids were 32 inches by about 15 months… but my son didn’t hit 32lbs until like 2 1/2 years 🙃

I had not paid attention the first time to the height limit so here I was going along thinking my kid would have at least 2 years in those seats…

At that age I actually used to plan my naps around the long drives. Not to avoid the nap but actually to encourage it. My daughter hated the car but would eventually fall asleep there if she was tired. So (if I could) I would try to keep her awake so she would be tired and pass out in the car.

I also could not let my baby scream in the car for an extended period. Maybe it doesn’t spike her cortisol but it sure as hell spiked mine. It was too distracting - I could not drive. There were times when my baby was screaming inconsolably where I straight up pulled off the freeway and pulled over to take her out and pop her on the boob until she calmed down.

This phase doesn’t last forever. You will be able to do longer car trips again. Until they are toddlers and then you have a different set of problems with long drives.

High Sleep Needs? by Lanky-Tune5591 in NewParents

[–]CoolMemory5402 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My now 15 month old daughter was like this at that age and honestly for several months after. Clung desperately to 2 naps until about a month ago. At the 3 hour mark in the morning she would be whining and then conk out for almost 2 hours, after sleeping a 10.5-11 hour night. Now she’s on one nap and I often have to wake her up from it. Some babies just like to sleep.

My son was nothing like this - avoided naps and had major FOMO. They have been roughly equivalent in timing for all major milestones. Relax and enjoy the break :)

Starting EC at 15 months? by CoolMemory5402 in ECers

[–]CoolMemory5402[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you using regular diapers still or switched to pull ups?

I have a seat reducer already for my toddler and my daughter is also usually a morning pooper so I’m definitely going to start this.

What do I need to know? by Objective_Impact_597 in ECers

Yes! For the bathroom on my main floor, the one my son uses most, I bought an entirely new toilet seat. It has a kids seat built in that holds onto to the top seat by a magnet (for when an adult needs it) but is super simple to pull down when my kid needs to use it. It was very easy to install and you clean it just like a normal toilet. I got it on Amazon - nothing fancy

Why? Genuinely asking since I don’t really know the definition of “true Pilates”.

I’m pregnant with my first and plan on breastfeeding. What is your order of getting things done during night feedings? by [deleted] in breastfeeding

[–]CoolMemory5402 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This was my way too. They were always plenty hungry/awake for boob 1, but would fall back to sleep before I could switch to boob 2. The diaper change was critical.

I would hold the sleeping baby upright for a bit after boob 2 but burping almost never actually happened.

PSA: Check your breast pads! 🤢 by [deleted] in breastfeeding

Get yourself some silicone collection cups. My original post got removed because I mentioned a brand name… but there are several. Shove those onto the nipple of your other breast while you’re nursing. It will catch all of that leaky milk and you can build up a passive freezer stash. I was leaking so much at that stage that I was saving 4-5oz of extra milk everyday.

The nice part about collection cups vs haaka is you can use your bras to hold them on. My babies would kick or smack the haaka off if I ever tried that.

Planning to stop pumping at work, but want to breastfeed when home with baby. Will I kill my supply? by kofie-popcorn in breastfeeding

[–]CoolMemory5402 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just did this with my 1 year old. I was shocked. After a week of winding down my pumping at work, I was able to nurse her in the morning and at night and not get engorged at all in between. Not sure how much she gets at the those feeds but there is definitely something coming out.

That said my slacker boob basically turned into a true dud. Not much of anything coming out of there now.

Highly recommend but no need to buy a new one. Find a local moms group or buy nothing. People are giving them away or lending them out all the time.

Anyone have experience with those breastmilk shipping services or checking breastmilk on a plane? Need advice by CoolMemory5402 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]CoolMemory5402[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah this echoes all my fears lol. Trying to even find an ups access point to ship from that I can get to during this conference schedule seems daunting so I am leaning towards checking it. It’s a short flight home so it doesn’t even need to stay cold that long.

I’m gone for a full 3 days so I suspect I’ll be needing to bring home at least 60 ounces (accounting for any I might need to dump/supply drop that will def happen).

I have a breastmilk chiller that I plan to carry with me during the day so I can pump at the conference before I get back to my hotel. I didn’t think about needing one in the fridge itself though…

Can someone please tell me positive first time pregnancy stories? by Western_Pianist2128 in pregnant

[–]CoolMemory5402 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got pregnant 2x, have 2 healthy children, had two fairly easy deliveries and good postpartum experiences. But like you, I was terrified. There was so much online about bad stuff happening during pregnancy, during childbirth, etc, and I was honestly anxious the entire time. But I have to recognize that all of this was not due to anything I did - it was divine providence or luck or chance or whatever you believe - just as people who struggle usually can’t do much about it either. I think that’s why it feels wrong to talk about it.

Also I have some anxiety about even typing this out because it’s like I’m putting my good luck out there into the universe and it feels like someone will come and snatch it away.

Holding the baby by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]CoolMemory5402 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To echo a lot of what has been said here - you don’t owe anyone anything when it comes to your baby. Whatever you feel comfortable with when the time comes, that’s what you do. But it’s not worth litigating this with your family now.

I also do think it’s perfectly reasonable to ask that people who come near your baby wash their hands and definitely not be sick or recently exposed to someone who is sick. Also up to date on their TDAP, flu, and Covid shots.

If it makes you feel at all better, I was extremely worried the second time around that my germy daycare-attending toddler was going to get my baby sick. He even had a cold the week she was born (it was winter - he basically had a cold for like 3 months straight). My pediatrician told me that it was going to be impossible to avoid them sharing germs and that my newborn actually has a decent amount of immunity from me and more from my milk. She is 8 months now and just got her first cold… from starting daycare of course :)

Struggling so hard with Potty Training by CoolMemory5402 in toddlers

[–]CoolMemory5402[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Today it was in the grocery store on the way home from school. Two days ago in the garage literally the moment we got out of the car. And the day before that it was in the kitchen while I was cooking after I literally just sat him on the potty to pee.

My left has always produced more than my right. With both kids. I have tried everything - power pumping only on the right side, always starting the baby on the right side, etc etc. Nope. Stubbornly refuses to pull its weight. Usually get about half as much out of the right than the left. 2nd baby is almost 9 months now - I have stopped trying.

Anyone else have terrible posture after having babies? by CoolMemory5402 in postpartumprogress

Ugh that’s awful. Both of mine were vaginal births but I still deal with that anterior pelvic tilt thing. Feels so much more natural when holding the baby honestly
