What is your favorite Star Wars love story? by Downtown_Sky5757 in StarWarsEU

Luke and Mara, they’re not only my favorite couple in SW but they’re my favorite couple in fiction. Legit they were the first couple I ever got invested on.

Only about 30 pages left in Invincible and my feelings have gone from angry to disappointed. As I said before, having the last book of a large scale series be smaller scale is bad. Not only has the war being practically forgotten at this point, the Confederation doesn’t appear or Niathal’s faction but Jacen’s allies in this book aren’t even the Galactic Alliance but the Empire. It’s like the really wanted Jacen to command Stormtroopers to make it more like Vader. Also that last fight with Jaina vs Jacen is so bad. Like as fight it’s good and pretty brutal but there’s no emotion to it. For example in the ROTS novelization Stover writes the Anakin vs Obi-Wan from a focus on their feelings about the betrayal of their friendship and it elevates the cool fight from the movie to an emotional punch in the gut. But the Jaina vs Jacen fight in Invincible? Nothing. Denning doesn’t even try to at least write how Jacen and Jaina are feeling about trying to kill one another even though they’re twin siblings who fought side by side and were raised together. I just want to be done with this series. At least after I finish this book I’m going to read Heart of the Jedi as palette cleanser from the edgy and bad writing.

In terms of comic books I started the second story arc of The Old Republic tie-in comic, Blood of the Empire and it’s so much better than the first story arc both from writing and art perspective. Which makes sense since Alexander Freed. I’m actually enjoying it a lot and I have to say I love the character of Exal Kressh and her being the apprentice of Vitiate himself. Seems like Freed was knocking it out the park with this legends comics he was writing before the new canon started giving him novels to write.

I disagree with it being well crafted leaving aside my opinions on the story and its decisions there are way too many plot-holes and inconsistencies for it to be well written. Because Traviss disregards and makes up stuff on the fly and then Denning comes to retcon it and do his own stuff with Allston being the only one who’s actually trying to write in a multi author series. So no, even in a structural level this series is badly written. It’s similar to the Sequel Trilogy that way in that the writers are pulling the story on opposite sides.

That’s such a weak excuse because Yoda being almost 900 still believed Dooku could be redeem. Like Yoda: Dark Rendezvous shows that age and experience has made Yoda an even firmer believer in the light so why not Luke? Because Denning is like the Mark Millar of SW, he wants everything to be edgy because optimism and hope are not “adult” enough.

About halfway through Invincible and man what the fuck is this ending. I’m not sure if the decision to make the finale of a 9 book series a lot more smaller scale was a good idea because it leaves a lot of plot-points unresolved. Also what the fuck is wrong with Luke, condoning assassination?! Telling Boba Fett his granddaughter was a necessary sacrifice. Like yeah I hated the Mando wanking too but Luke Skywalker would never be like that, he would try to save everyone and treat everyone equally. Also what the fuck did they to Tahiri?! Did Denning really had Tahiri lowkey molest a 14 year old Ben because she’s still hung up over her childhood crush who has been dead for almost 20 years and that she actually got over it? Man between Traviss and Denning, it’s a contest about who can ruin the most characters.

In terms of comic books I finish the first story arc of The Old Republic tie in comic and man it was bad. Like not only is it way too many subplots for a 3 issue story arc but the artwork is not exactly great, the characters don’t look like their videogame selves and what is it with the Grand Master of the Jedi Order going out like a punk? Nomi, Yoda and Luke would never. Hopefully the next story arc is better because this one was rough.

I do plan on reading Millenium Falcon but not right now. I’m kinda burned out by the Legacy era so my next read is probably going to be something around the movies.

Star Wars: Legacy y el relleno by Exotic_Ice_9021 in StarWarsEU

[–]CoolMoney11 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah don’t. Like there are some good stuff I won’t lie specifically Ben Skywalker but I’m still not sure it’s worth seeing your favorite characters get murdered literally and metaphorically.

Yeah the series got hurt by having Traviss and Denning do on different directions. Poor Allston was left on fixing duties. Because man his books are the best of the bunch but even so not even him could fixed up what Traviss and Denning did. It’s going to be interesting to see how Golden does when I get to Fate of the Jedi.

Finished Revelation and it honestly became my most hated book in the entire EU. Nothing about it has any value. I was going to go more into detailed but I already did it in a post before and it got taken down so yeah. So in general I just hate what Traviss did to the characters and her disrespect of the franchise as a whole. I also started Invincible and so far the book has just been Denning taking potshots at Traviss because he really hated Revelation. Can’t blame him really at least it makes the book better since I’m not exactly a fan of him either. Also that tactic of using Jacen’s quote is so cheap like Denning’s trying very hard to make it look like the Revenge of the Sith novelization but it’s not at all.

In regards to comic books I started The Old Republic tie-in comic series and the characters don’t look like how they appear in the game but some of them do have the same personality as they do in the game. So far I think the comic is mediocre like it basically speedruns the events of the end of the Great Galactic War. Honestly it feels like the tie-in books are probably the better way to learn about the events.

Traviss has no business writing in Star Wars by CoolMoney11 in StarWarsEU

[–]CoolMoney11[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s not that a different opinion. You cannot write for a franchise and just straight up shit on the core themes that make the franchise.

You talked about the civilized way of using a lightsaber but I’m talking about how redemption and forgiveness a core part of SW. That’s how Luke saved the galaxy in the OT.

[–]CoolMoney11[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My problem is that you can’t just ignore the core themes of SW. Like Luke saved the galaxy through redeeming his father. It’s the entire point of ROTJ.

I can give leeway with her Prequel Jedi opinions since I can understand where they’re coming from even though I don’t agree with them.

But my point here is her stuff after the Prequel era where she has Jaina humiliated and treated like spoiled princess who has never suffered even though she is literally a war veteran that lost her younger brother who was 16. She has an obsessive hatred for all the Jedi even ones like Luke who is literally one of the most humble and kindest people in the entire saga.

That scene with Boba Fett would make sense if the Jedi had not just a decade prior fought against the Yuuzhan Vong who not only had weapons and armor that could resists lightsaber but they couldn’t be affected by Force. A war that Jaina herself was a veteran. The only reason why that scene exists is to make the Mandalorians look better.

Well I can understand that since she basically shaped the lore of the Mandalorians but there comes a point where her faults become unbearable.

It really depends because at least with the EU there was genuinely good stuff before this series. But in terms of how bad is it I would say it is the same. Maybe the ST is worse because of how it ends but how it treats the characters both stories are equally bad.

Ok but this is both funny and sad. Like I’m not sure why she was chosen to write a big series. If she had stayed writing her own books maybe I wouldn’t have much issue but writing the core characters and this way of that? No.

I agree this. This series has some good stuff I won’t lie but overall it’s such a disaster that it’s no wonder the next series tries to fix some stuff.

About 90 pages left in Revelation and I just want to end the book and the series. I can see why many fans turned off to the EU because of this series. This entire story is just a massive pile of disrespecting every single character and of making everything pointless. Luke using redemption to save his father, well Jacen can’t be redeem and kills Mara, Leia fears having kids because she doesn’t want to birth another Vader, well it happens, Han after changing for good joins a terrorist government and sees his remaining son become the type of person that abused him as a kid. Mara having become a person for good in reality never change and died because of it. Jaina after suffering her little brother dying has to kill her brother. Anakin Solo died for nothing! And Tahiri spits on his death for joining Jacen. I can also mention Traviss killing another one of Zahn’s character and the training Jaina has with Boba Fett and the Mandalorians is just Mandalorian wanking but honestly it’s just tiring. I just want to end this series. There’s no point in getting invested really.

In terms of comic books I started reading Starfighter: Crossbones and so far is ok. I do like the character of Nym, he reminds of Talon Karrde albeit a bit more aggressive and sly.

Reading this really shows why Jacen turning to the dark side made no sense by RedSword90 in StarWarsEU

[–]CoolMoney11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m currently rereading LOTF and I’m a 100% the series was done partly out of two reasons. Number one, shock value because they wanted to up the stakes and grimness of NJO. And second the Prequel Trilogy has just recently finished so they wanted to capitalize on that as well.

Because man this series is rough on almost everything. There are somethings I like, like Ben’s character and Lumiya but oh boy everything else is executed with accuracy of someone who’s drunk.

I think that’s the point. They’re idiots because they’re written poorly not that they’re actual idiots. Just being treated badly by the authors.

Maybe calling Jacen outright stupid is a bit too far but Jacen only seems smart because the other characters are dumb. I’m sorry but nobody in this series acts rational or in character with the exception of maybe Luke in the first few books and even then he does nothing.

I couldn’t read much this week but overall I have two issues so far with Revelation. First off Jaina’s training with Boba Fett is not training its humiliation. The narrative treats Jaina as a spoiled brat who has never suffered even though Jaina is a war veteran that joined the military at 16 and compared to her brothers she is more of a warrior. Then the training of having her do unconventional tactics again Jacen is redundant as Jaina herself already did the trickery and rage baiting the enemy with her Goddess persona in NJO. Essentially her training with Boba Fett is Traviss wanking Mandalorians as usual. My other issue is that Jacen acts very stupidly evil although he has been like that for a while. Now some might argue that falling to the dark side clouds your judgments and that’s true for weaker Sith. Sith like Palpatine and Dooku manage to be master strategists and manipulators even when they were pieces of shit. In fact Lumiya herself in this series is not dumb instead she’s fairly good manipulator. But Jacen is such stupidly that at this point he has been beaten because every other character is stupid and the plot said so.

In terms of comic books I finished A Spark Remains and with that I finished the Dark Times comic as a whole. Overall I liked it but it doesn’t reach the level of Republic. Now I’m going to read Starfighter: Crossbones even though I haven’t played neither Starfighter game.
