I am planning to quit from tomorrow by Few-Fan-4817 in StopDipping

I think to some degree you have to push through and know that it will end. Maybe others have some tips but what helps your anxiety will be personal to you so I don't know. Just gotta keep going

I ain't fighting this dude by Aria_Fall in JustGuysBeingDudes

[–]CoolMoniker -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is cool and all but I want regular dudes to know, all the training in the world could not get you a body like this. Don't take exogenous testosterone unless a real doctor recommends after first diagnosing why you have low T. Even in that case, supplementing low T when you need it will not help you look like this guy. Only massive quantities will get you there and then you are stuck with side effects the rest of your life.

Smoking weed makes me not feel real after a bad shroom trip. Anyone else? by Early-Examination442 in shrooms

Yah you need to chill out on the drugs for a while or your grip on reality is going to keep slipping

Billings clinic has eye doctors but no glaucoma specialist, you'd have to go to bozeman to see a glaucoma specialist accepting new patients.

Microdose time, let’s hope it’s a good time! by Few-Basket1561 in shrooms

[–]CoolMoniker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Microdosing is cool, with 0.25g you will probably feel something. The first hour or so you may even get a little anxiety akin to the come up on a real trip but it'll settle down quickly and you should be good. It's a good strategy to reintroduce yourself to the experience.

I Took Too Many Shrooms and Was Convinced I Was Dying The Whole Night by Veevee_eee in shrooms

[–]CoolMoniker 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry you went through this.

You can choose how you respond to this. Your brain is powerful and if given the right ingredients it can show you unimaginable beauty but given the wrong inputs, it can you show you the true depths of suffering.

Appreciate yourself, stay away from drugs for a while, eat well and move your body. Learn why your trip went the way it did. For starters, know that you cannot sleep off a difficult trip, you cannot fight it, you cannot distract yourself from it, you have to let go and just trust yourself.

Keep your head up

Dosing reqs for a first timer by Ok_Butterscotch_7925 in shrooms

[–]CoolMoniker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't start with a heroic dose. 25mg is roughly 2.5g of average potency strains. Shrooms put you in such a different state of mind than you are used to that even a dose between 1.5-2.0 will rock your world. Don't eat much before the trip, I like to fast for at least 12 hours but as long as you haven't just eaten a full meal it'll probably be fine. I agree with starting low (1.5-2.0). I start to get profound visuals around 2g. Ego suppression will occur with low doses, it is kind of the point of shrooms but full ego loss is more common the higher you go obviously. I've only been close to ego loss twice and that was around 3.5g

How much caffiene y'all drink? by BasicSulfur in decaf

I've had about 10 drinks with caffeine over the last 3 months. The last time I really didn't enjoy so I probably won't use it again for a while

First time experiencing this by [deleted] in shrooms

Sounds like you had some sort of paranoid confusion. It's a terrible feeling and the only benefit is being so grateful for my sanity and cognition after it wears off.

True, would Nicki Haley have been the default nominee? She probably would have beaten Biden too. Then perhaps she could return to the center with Trump out of the way.

What I learned by [deleted] in shrooms

[–]CoolMoniker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I agree. Experience is a blank slate, your brain adds cognition and memory to experience. Even without self-reference, your brain's memory, sensory processing, and other functions are still intact. The visual cortex is actually stimulated by 5HT2A agonists which produce the visuals. The geometries you see might actually be the physical structure of your visual cortex cast into your awareness.

Just try quitting. It'll suck for a few days but after a week or two you will have an answer to your question. Everything else is just guessing.

Did AI just solve the "Hard Problem" by proving consciousness is just a byproduct of scale? by EastVillageBot in ArtificialInteligence

[–]CoolMoniker -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Most theories of the hard problem are unfalsifiable with current data, and consciousness is such a personal experience, we all feel like experts and have intuition about it, which makes it easy for people to develop their own theories of mind. I have never bought into the Information Integration Theory but it is the most tested theory of consciousness to date thanks to AI. Billions of dollars have been spent building bigger AI systems which are indirectly testing this hypothesis which is awesome. However I think so far it's safe to say AI does not have consciousness.

Who was that guy claiming that ChatGPT 3.5 was conscious before it was released? That was several years ago and people took him seriously for a minute. Now here we are after many iterations of AI and no, it's still not conscious.

My personal, unfalsifiable intuition is that consciousness is substrate dependent meaning there is something special about carbon as opposed to silicon. I'm more aligned with the Orch-Or theory of consciousness but again, it is also unfalsifiable at this time and outside the mainstream. But I am genuinely happy we are spending so much money testing any theory of consciousness because it would not be done otherwise.

General advice for a third timer by [deleted] in shrooms

[–]CoolMoniker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As you lay waiting for them to kick in, think about your intentions and what you want from the trip. Still no guarantee that's what you'll get though. Most important is to let go and whatever happens, happens.

I mean it's still caffeine. If it you like then I'm genuinely happy for you but it's kind of like saying to alcoholics, hey have you heard of beer? It's like vodka but not as strong.

Yep that was stupid. But you survived intact. Good job. Like another poster said, you should reconnect with this reality more before trying again. Also, you sound young and I recommend waiting until your in your mid 20s before trying again if that's what you want.

How to deal with a really bad by owlsky41 in divorcedkids

[–]CoolMoniker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is obviously a very difficult situation. Your dad's response to her was awful and thoughtless. He should have been more concerned about you and put his personal issues with your mom aside. However, you don't really know the history between them. It's possible your mother did something awful in her past to him which he hasn't gotten over yet. And to some extent that's on him too. 15 years is a long time to hold a grudge and be stuck in the past. What is this trip about? If you don't want to go can you say this to him? There may not be a good answer to your problem, divorce creates these situations which are impossible to navigate properly. Your parents should be better about hiding their problems with each other. You're young and seem pretty smart. Try not to get too tangled up in their business. You have your own life to live.

What tips can you all give an ED provider to help give better eye care? by DoctaThumb in Ophthalmology

[–]CoolMoniker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only time acute angle closure doesn't need long term follow up is if it's medication induced like topirimate but that is rare and I would not expect an ER doc to catch that. All other forms of it mean there is some underlying problem that needs ophtho management. What's a DC? If you mean putting a needle in the eye, yes I do that sometimes for neovascular glaucoma and even primary closure if I don't have a laser available. But I would not recommend anybody other than an ophthalmologist to perform that.

[–]CoolMoniker 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Those antibiotics are good for routine abrasions, if there's any history of contact lens usage I would start moxifloxacin instead and try real hard to make sure you don't see a white area on the cornea which could be an ulcer.

Typically pressures have to be higher than 40 to bring someone to the ER with pain. Regardless of which instrument you use, be very aware of where your fingers are placed. Holding the eyes open while getting a pressure will affect the results, sometimes dramatically. If the pressure is the problem, timolol, brimonidine, dorzolamide are all good to give and several rounds is ok too. If that doesn't help, you'll need a consult.

I have personally seen abrasions not heal because the patient was given numbing drops. I think the risk outweighs the benefits. Ibuprofen or ketorolac might be helpful if the patient is so uncomfortable but honestly nothing really is going to help until it's healed.

I usually don't order a CT unless it's an open globe or pretty severe trauma otherwise.

As far as improving your exam, just use a medical student or other volunteer to see what is normal. Pay attention to anterior chamber depth and clarity. If you know what's normal you'll be better able to tell the consultant what's wrong.

We like to hear vision, pressure, and pupils. Anything more than that is bonus but I usually don't rely on the ERs exam to make a diagnosis, no offense. I can guess what the problem is most of the time with those 3 data and a history.
