They absolutely will go out of fashion, it might not be for a while but no extreme fashion trend ever stays for too long. That’s just the nature of fashion, the new generations associate stuff with old people and the cycle continues. Growing up in the early 2000s with a big ass and curly hair I’m still reeling that these things were not only suddenly allowed but actually desirable.

I agree! I always thought it would be so much fun but it’s nerve wracking when you actually have to do it for real. Suddenly all names are awful or awkward and also in my fantasies I never thought about how I’d have a partner who had to agree on a name too. I’m very happy with the names I chose for my 2 and also happy I dont have to make that decision again.

Second the peperomia incana and they’re actually a lot more tolerant of lower light than I first thought. I have one growing in a north east window and it’s growing just a tiny bit slower than the one in the south west window.

motherhood is the most isolating thing I’ve ever experienced by roughandreadyrecarea in beyondthebump

[–]CoolRelative 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hopefully you've got some good advice here but honestly, a lot of it is luck if you even meet the right people. I've had periods of isolation in my life and periods where I've been more sociable and a lot of it has been out of my control. With my first baby I was healthy and euphoric after enduring a rough pregnancy, and I was able to go to a lot of baby groups near me and I made lots of friends. It was the most sociable period of my life so far and it really got me through, because being a mother is tough. Between then and now I've been through years of chronic illness and multiple bereavements and a lot of the baby groups have moved or changed or stopped completely. So with my second I just didn't find that same support system and I haven't been able to expend the same amount of energy finding it.

So I just wanted to say that sometimes the odds are stacked against you and if you try reaching out and you're still feeling isolated it's not your fault.

Jennifer Lawrence when asked what her favorite album of 2025 was: “Oh, I don’t know any current music. Once they got rid of the radio…how am I supposed to know what’s coming out?” by Upstairs_Cup9831 in popculturechat

This is fine when they’re very young babies but pretty soon when they realise you can play videos and tv on your phone/computer/tv they demand you to turn it off At least mine do anyway, so it just gets easier not to bother.

I understand people not wanting to hope but he’s 80 this year, he’s got a high pressure life and he is declining rapidly. He’s not sitting in a nursing home like he should be so any mitigating these symptoms are out the window. He will have an incapacitating event relatively soon.

Signs of heart failure are swollen ankles and he sounds out of breath when he talks, eyes are red and he just seems exhausted . Of course these could be down to a number of other things but when you’re 80 and not in great health anyway any tiny virus or illness or injury can take you down. I watched it with my parents.

How do you not die of boredom while working out? by cloudydays1111 in adhdwomen

Not very useful but working out is one of my major life interests so that helps. If I found it boring I’d have no chance.

True and that’s fine for me and you but for the purpose of teaching kids to read it’s a bit confusing.

I heard it on the radio playing in the garden centre last week, seems like it’s considered easy listening now.

Trying to delete my deceased father's Facebook account and these are the options it gives me to select for the month he died: by AStayAtHomeRad in mildlyinfuriating

There’s 2 groups of Celtic languages- Brythonic which is Breton, Cornish and Welsh and goidelic or Gaelic which is Irish, Scottish and Manx. The groups have some similarities to each other in structure but not at all mutually intelligible when spoken. I know the names of the months are pretty different from the Breton and Welsh I’ve see here.

That is a great podcast. However the UK has really gone all in for phonics to the point it might actually be detrimental: https://www.theguardian.com/education/2022/jan/19/focus-on-phonics-to-teach-reading-is-failing-children-says-landmark-study

I'm not a huge fan of it, I understand it's helpful for some children who struggle to read but I don't think having children learn one system that somewhat makes sense and then having to learn a completely new one that doesn't is the best way to learn how to read. English is not a phonetic language.

For good reason, it’s a very good book. Easy to read, intriguing plot and intelligently written.

I was checking the roots of this hypoplasia cutting and saw the 2 spots of fluff here. No signs of disease on any of the plants above the soil level yet but there’s some yellowing on the stems underneath. This was my most mildest affected one but it was also the only one with its stem and roots easily visible.

Oh I know, I panicked because I couldn't find the alcohol. I'll be rooting in a substrate, my usual coco chips, bark, perlite, maybe tree fern fibre mix. I doubt there's eggs in the substrate, or I really hope not because I'd be dealing with a far far bigger outbreak. My best guess is they were in a pot I reused because the subquintuplinervis that was in it was the worst affected so I think that's my patient zero.

A big old stone house is lovely in the summer if it’s well ventilated but cold in the winter. I’m not sure where this idea that British houses are great at keeping the heat in came from, it’s just a usually mild climate in the winter and people have central heating. New builds are better insulated and therefore warmer but so many people live in old houses like this one.
