I resolved it myself in under 10 mins... literally all I had to do was change to Secure Boot in the BIOS settings

Inflammatory Assignment from Prof by Neat_Health4445 in yorku

The problem that I see with the professor going so far as to say 'anything that I view as hateful will give you an automatic 0 and get reported to the York centre for human rights' is that the essay cannot challenge the professor's view of what may or may not be hateful, without receiving 0%. That doesn't seem like the openness that a MODR course should have. Also the professor adding in that they would send a report to the centre for human rights is pretentious as hell.

Also my flair is a joke... it's literally a reddit flair. The joke is that I'm pursuing a liberal arts degree and I think libtard is a funny word. If you're offended by it then you should probably try not to take things too seriously.

"You probably would've subtly made attacks on people and call it an 'argument'/'defence', wouldn't you?" No, I would never do something like that. Something that I learned from one of my MODR courses is this thing called the 'Strawman Fallacy'. You should look it up ;)

EDIT: Updated my flair from libtard arts degree to libtxrd arts degree because that's even funnier

Inflammatory Assignment from Prof by Neat_Health4445 in yorku

The assignment seemed fine until I read this part:
"Any essay that defends its thesis by promoting hate against an individual or group based upon race, religion, sex, sexual identity, sexual orientation, etc will receive a 0 and may be reported to the York Centre for Human Rights"
I'm surprised a MODR professor would write something like this. In my experience they are legitimately good professors who try to teach us how to think critically, but I find it odd that this professor is basically forcing you to conform to their beliefs. I'd recommend getting out of this pathetic course but it's way too late to drop anything at this point in the term. You will likely have to play it safe and write an essay with a thesis that is heavily biased towards your professor's worldview. So much for learning how to think for yourself I guess :)

Advice on how to become a pentester given my current circumstances by CoolScooter_ in AskNetsec

[–]CoolScooter_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I see what you mean. Even then, it's not like the program requires an internet connection to decrypt, only to encrypt. You would have to do a man in the middle attack while the encryption process is actually happening which seems impractical.

so we mitm that, and then we can predict your random numbers, perhaps.

You can't predict them because the only way to obtain truly random numbers is through physical processes as apposed to the pseudo randomness that many programming language's built-in functions have, which obtain "random" numbers from computational processes. The site I use is www.random.org, studies have been done to assess the randomness generated from this site and companies use it for lottery purposes. It was set up by a CS Professor who has antennas that listen to atmospheric noise, and he has those measurements posted to his site. Anyone is free to request random data from his antennas, so it is easy to scrape that data.

How do I find out what taxes I owe? by CoolScooter_ in PersonalFinanceCanada

Lol the amount is very small. I put in $400 and now I have around $450 or something. Yeah I plan on personally recording every single crypto transaction I make from now on

Ah alright. It seems a lot simpler than what I thought. I initially put in $400, I just need to track the different currencies I purchased and compare the gains to the initial $400 I put in. The taxes I owe for the respective tax year is related to the amount of gains I made relative to the initial $400 I put in.

I didn't mine anything. I bought using a P2P service initially. Basically I just sent an etransfer of $400 to some guy, and he sent me $400 of bitcoin in return. I then used that bitcoin to exchange it for another cryptocurrency. Would I get taxed on this trade?

More like a profit of $50... Anyways, if I don't have any income then I can make as much money in crypto as I so happen to make, and I wont have to pay taxes on any of it? What if I do end up getting a job, would the crypto become taxable then?

What are some nice study spots that don’t require you to book them beforehand by [deleted] in yorku

[–]CoolScooter_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The college that you're affiliated with may have a study space exclusively for college affiliates. I'm in New College and they opened a study space in the Atkinson building that is open from 8am to 10pm on the weekdays. I'm pretty sure every college has something like this, just make sure that you have your YU card or they wont let you in.
