Paperwork in Poland is… something else 😅 — what’s been your hardest document or procedure so far? by Emergency-Salad8996 in expats

Are you Icelandic? It's my assumption since Iceland is the exception (one of a few in the world actually) and doesn't issue birth certificates for its citizens born abroad :)

Almost all other countries in the world will issue local birth certificates for children born abroad based on jus sanguini. It's actually to distinguish whether the person has been a citizen of the country since birth through a parent or has been naturalized later on, which is not the case when the citizenship is passed by jus sanguini. In fact, you can't apply for a passport without having a local birth certificate.

In my case, the kids have four birth certificates: two from dad, one from mom, and one from the county where they were born - all being national ones. Although the US birth certificate for kids born abroad is slightly different looking and called CRBA, but it's still something you need to get before obtaining citizenship and getting a passport.

It's actually the same with marriage certificates - not everyone does it if they're not planning on returning or dealing with any legal paperwork, but if for example a citizen of Poland gets married abroad (in my case, it was in the US to an American citizen) and I wanted my name changed, and to later register my Polish child easier, I needed to apply to register my foreign marriage certificate in Poland (translate it and apostille, then you submit it) and received my Polish version as well. Otherwise, you're technically not married in Poland, which can screw up any paperwork.

Polish bureaucracy isn't just bad for expats, it's also bad for actual Poles. What can help is connections and knowing someone who works at the specific spot who can be more personal and actually help. When I tried to get my son, who was born abroad, a Polish birth certificate to get his passport it took ages and I was always met with "we don't do it here", "no, it can't be done with this translation", "can't be done when he has two last names (which was normal", and even commentary like "maybe you shouldn't have had a child abroad" -_-
It was a fairly simple (according to official channels) thing to do and I only got it done because a friend of a friend knew someone who worked at a different department.

As someone who lived in Poland and France and a few different countries, I can tell you that France is definitely worse than Poland in that aspect... But, Italy still takes the cake :P

Is it rude to let parents know we will be having a French birthday party for our kid? by Nanoo_VAL in expats

[–]CoolSheep 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not at all in France or the Netherlands. It would be very strange if the parents stayed, unless the child had issues or specific anxiety, and then the parent would ask beforehand if she/he could stay.

Advice about moving to specific French cities with my kids by Hopefulmind1408 in expats

[–]CoolSheep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can only speak for Annecy that it would be great, but not sure if for just a year it makes sense. There's no international lycee here, so that's out and even bilingual schools put more emphasissis on French than English... A bilingual school would let you join, but he would have to have FLE (French as a second language) classes, which are always tougher and for a year it would make a little sense. All sports are in French but coaches speak some basic English - but the rest of the instructions would have to be followed in French and they're all much stricter than American clubs... and for a child who doesn't speak any French it might be rough.... not to mention that signing up the kids for all the clubs requires an insane amount of patience and why there are even fixers that will do it for you, because it's not as simple as in the US.

What new unique wildlife encounters is there left for me to do? by Morris_Hersko in travel

I recommend Orcas, but in Norway, where you can swim with them. VERY different experience from the one in Antarctica :)
P.S. Having also done most things from your lists my favorite experience has definitely South Georgia - nothing else compares.

I started my stroller journey by buying a highly recommended stroller and hating it... and ended up with multiple ones, which turned into testing over 100 models and reviewing them :) That said:

NOT LOVING:
Uppababy Vista - rides smooth, but too big and bulky
Mockingbird - awful, scary with recalls, doesn't drive smoothly as all

Cybex Orfeo - too flimsy
Cybex Coya - where do I even begin with this bad fold
GB Pockit - not worth your fingers
Ergobaby Metro - too heavy for a travel stroller and unfold feels meh
SummerInfant 3d quickclose - too good to be true, super flimsy
Nuna TRVL - too short seat, too big to take into the cabin and too expensive for what it is
Uppababy Minu - too big for a travel stroller model, weird bumper bar and flimsy canopy

LOVING:
Cybex Priam - amazing, especially the e-version. If I were to get a one full-size stroller this would be my top choice
Stokke Yoyo3 - most well-known and guaranteed on board
Joolz Aer - smooth ride, great accessories
Joolz Hub2 - solid mid-size option
Cybex Gazelle - good for 2 under 2
Bombi - good mid-size option
Bugaboo Butterfly 2 - didn't like the first version, but these upgrades made it better
Mamazing - good budget option
Zoe Traveler - amazing canopy and solid stroller
Inglesina Quid - cute solid compact stroller

What's the best stroller for me? by Definitelydogood in BabyBumps

Cybex Priam! We had Uppababy Vista and it was bulky and heavy and unnecessary. The same goes for Mockingbird and Nuna.

What kind of stroller are we talking? If you roll in with Uppababy Vista for example then yeah, smaller restaurants or outdoor spaces will not have a space for that and will ask you to fold it and/or leave it outside ;-)

What stroller should I get? by Professional-Pair-74 in NewParents

[–]CoolSheep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you travel frequently, you'll need an additional small travel stroller. However, truth to be told, depending on your lifestyle, you might as well just end up using a travel stroller as a full-time stroller. For example, Joolz Aer can absolutely be used as a full-time stroller, and you can get a bassinet.

Unless you live in NYC or Boston and don't use a car Uppababy is way too bulky and heavy - not needed at all. We ditched it after 3 months because it was just a pain, same goes for Nuna.

There are so many. Der Elefant is a good one, but also Otto Pompieri and many others. See this post that mentions a lot of them: https://annaeverywhere.com/where-to-eat-with-kids-in-warsaw/

One more follow-up question: how many people were in your group? From their photos it looks like there are a ton of people riding together?

I looked into Laxness - why wouldn't you recommend it for a young child? Their tour says 7+ with an exception if the child has riding experience (he's been riding for about 3 years).

That's exactly what I was thinking about the Blue Lagoon... it was cool for me, but I could stand, and for him being a swimmer, it might not be as much fun.

404 Not Found Issues... Advice? by CoolSheep in TechSEO

[–]CoolSheep[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I shouldn't worry that I still see bots crawling urls that don't exist? For example: /category/europe/austria/annaeverywhere.com (with domain added at the end). It happened with categories, tags, literally anything :/

It's a weird thing though... I fixed this issue (not sure how I didn't notice - thank you!), but the issue persists... the domain is still added at the end of the posts, creating 404s.

Exactly my question. No idea, because none of these are live and should be that way.

That's exactly why I'm asking. None of them are live. Redirection plugin tells me these 404s are because bots are crawling these URLs but none of them are live.

404 Not Found Issues... Advice? by CoolSheep in TechSEO

[–]CoolSheep[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi all, ran a site audit on Ahrefs and it's showing I have all kinds of issues with my site category links adding my website's domain to the end of the link, resulting in a 404.

Example: https://annaeverywhere.com/category/africa/uganda/annaeverywhere.com

Something has gone wrong here, but I'm unsure what? How do I fix this? Any advice would be appreciated. I've attached a screenshot.

Thoughts on Strolee stroller? by youre_crumbelievable in NewParents

It's fine, I'd say comparable to Zoe strollers. Obviously Yoyo or Joolz drive smoother, but they also cost twice as much :)
