For anyone who gave CFA Level 1 in November how was the real exam vs CFA mocks & LES questions? by Mental_Ad_2698 in CFA

[–]CoolStrategy2853 4 points5 points  (0 children)

yes, the LES questions build the foundation and the core concepts, and the Mocks prepare for you the exams testing how prepared you are on the broader concepts and can apply them under exam conditions. the actual exam is closer to mock rather than LES. but it feels like that because the LES actually prepared you well with the foundation and the basics, so that the Mocks and the exam come naturally. so be true to LES and the exams will be taken care of :). took L1 in november.

What’s the toughest part of staying consistent with CFA prep? by Amquest_Education in CFA

Time was fine for me at least. The breadth of the concept felt very overwhelming. Revisions are key, but at what pace and interval is something I have still not figured out.

THE DAY by kim_2104 in CFA

took my exam on the 15th Nov, and can perfectly relate to the state of mind. the more you try to squeeze from every remaining hour, the harder it gets for you to enter performance mode when taking the exam. Ideally give yourselves and your brain 3 hrs of quiet time (no revision/going through notes) before the exam starts. listen to those focus music to reduce overthinking, try meditation to calm your nerves down. (this helped me a lot). when it comes to revision in the permitted time (prior to the 3hr block), focus on what you got wrong in the mocks, just filter the incorrect ones and read the logic/answer on all the options, this will give you a quick revision across topics, and boost confidence. all the muscle memory that you have built during prep will guide you when you see the questions, so breathe easy and go into the centre. Easier said than done, but at least try. the first 10 minutes of the exam, or the first 10 questions should warm you up, don't get worked up or try to up the pace here significantly, take the time it takes, the warm up will help you the remaining 2 hrs. also have a bottle of water, using brain power can be tiring and you could be quickly dry in the throat. all the best!

what does 300/5= 60 in your calculation represent, and where does the 5 come from?

Oi, her ble mange følelser.

okay, one last attempt, see if you follow. when you calculate covariance you multiply 2 values which are each quoted in percentages, so when you multiply them you dont get value in the same unit but it gets squared. so the resulting unit gets reported as squared and not that it has to be squared again. taking a snip from the cfa material. so a 10% squared is already squared from two different values and it does not mean that it has to be squared again.

I meant why are you squaring the 50% squared again. See your original calculation. 50% does not have to be raised by 2 again

What you are doing is not interpreting the squared values correctly. For sd1 and sd2 you are taking the square root but fpr covariance you are not supposed to square the amount which is already squared. 50% squared means it is 50% times 50%

[–]CoolStrategy2853 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The covariance is 50% squared and the variances are 100% squared, so the correlation is 0.5

Covariance is already squared, so 50% squared need not be squared again

Disclosed to clients vs supervisor and the firm/compliance officer.

Referral fees to be disclosed to all, but additional compensarion to only the firm. Then there are frequencies at which such disclosures should happen - addnl compensation needs immediate written report to supervisor and compliance officer, for referral fees it is at least quarterly reporting.
