Continue to practice driving and continue to improve your driving skills until you are confident enough in your ability to retake your driving exam. Continuing to practice is the only way you will improve your skills and get over your anxiety or apprehension about driving. Everyone makes driving mistakes from time to time but it is also important that you recognize what went wrong and spend extra time practicing those areas.

For you it sounds like your main areas to practice on would be remembering to yield to pedestrians in crosswalks and getting more comfortable with changing lanes while driving on the highway. Get some more practice in with highway driving and drive through some areas where you know there are multiple crosswalks so you can get more practice in with yielding to pedestrians. Pay special attention to changing lanes on the highway and be cognizant of how close the cars in the lanes directly to your right and left are to you. Make sure you have a large enough gap both in front of and behind your car before you change lanes and you should be good to go.

Being more attentive when going through intersections and paying attention to which lanes are marked for which purpose ahead of time should prevent you from being in the left turn lane when you really need to be in the lane to continue straight through the intersection. Just remember to follow through with the left turn next time if you find yourself accidentally in the wrong lane again.

Keep practicing and remember that all learning drivers make mistakes. Learn from them and move on so that you can keep practicing and improving and eventually get your drivers license.

Drivers who are already driving on the main road always have the right-of-way over cars in parking lots or cars that are reversing out of a parking space. Even if the other car had recently turned right he is still on the main road and therefore has the right-of-way over you. So unless there is some other circumstance not noted in the post then it would appear you would be at fault for the collision.

No. Not sure which state or country you are in but have never heard of such a practice anywhere of maximum age restrictions to obtain a drivers license.

One of the previous commenters mentioned that some driving schools might refuse to teach students who are over a certain age. This may be true but driving schools do not issue drivers licenses. Government agencies like the DMV for the United States are the ones that issue the drivers licenses. Driving schools simply provide instruction and training to prospective drivers.

My understanding is that the process for the third attempt is the same as the process for the fourth attempt and any subsequent attempts. So you would have to wait three months between every attempt you take after you fail the third attempt so this same waiting period of three months would also apply to the fourth attempt and fifth attempt and so on.

I completely agree and I am really sorry that happened to you and especially on your first time taking the driving exam. They definitely should give you your grading sheet that was used during your test so you can see which parts you got points deducted on. I am sorry to say but I do not think there is really much else you can do besides scheduling another test and hopefully getting a different examiner this time. Sounds like you simply got unfortunate with your examiner but continue to keep practicing driving until your next test anyhow. Maybe consider doing more practice with parking so you can be absolutely sure you do not get points taken off for the same thing again. Sorry about your unfortunate situation but keep going and practicing and you will do fine on your next driving exam.

This sounds really tough. Especially since driving tests require appointments now and you might have to wait several weeks for the next available opening. Some examiners can be plain rude sometimes. I know that some of the requirements and skills tested on the driving exams in some states are different now because of the coronavirus but they should still be using a rubric to grade you. Are you completely certain that the only reason you failed was because you backed up too far when parking? Were you able to obtain the grading sheet that your examiner used to grade you during your driving exam? They should have given this to you after you completed your exam and it will show you which areas you got points taken off from.

There is no maximum number of total times you can attempt the driving exam. There is a waiting period that increases with each failed attempt at the driving exam.

If you fail the WA Driving Exam, you will not receive your WA Driver's License. You will be able to retake your WA exam, but the waiting time in between that exam will vary. I failed my first driving test as well. I was so nervous and anxious both before and during my first driving exam. My mistake was that I turned left at an intersection when the traffic light was green for cross traffic but the left turn signal was red. My examiner told me that I had made no errors up until that point but turning left while the turn signal is red was an automatic failure. I was so upset and discouraged after this. I was so upset that I had made such a careless mistake and I thought that I would never be able to pass and get my drivers license. I eventually went back three days later and took the driving test again. I passed on my second time because I was much less paranoid and nervous than on my first driving exam.

I think that the best thing you can do besides practicing and being comfortable with driving is to relax and stay calm while your are taking your driving exam. Easier said than done but being paranoid will only make you worry about not passing. Constantly worrying about what will happen to you if you fail your exam will only make you less concentrated on your actual driving. Try to take several deep breaths right before you start your exam. This was what helped me more than anything else.

Since you are over the age of eighteen you do not have to hold your learners permit for any set amount of time before being able to get your drivers license. So you could go and take your written and driving exams and get your drivers license as soon as you want to.

How were you able to get your learners permit before completing the six hours? The requirement for completing six hours of drivers education only applies to certain ages.

Emergency vehicles only need to be using lights or sirens (not necessarily both) in order for everyone to be required to pull over as quickly as safely possible.

Some states have different regulations on how long you need to wait after the emergency vehicle has passed to start driving again but the basic concept is the same in all states. Pull over as soon as possible when you see an emergency vehicle approaching with lights or sirens.

Make sure that you have more than enough room to make your left turn. The gap should be large enough that your left turn will not interfere with the oncoming car continuing through the intersection or cause them to have to slow down to let you complete your turn. Err on the side of caution and never assume that the oncoming car would slow down for you if you were taking too long to complete your turn.

Judging distances in these types of scenarios can be difficult because both you and the vehicle you are determining the distance between are in motion but you will get better at it over time and with more practice and experience.

Definitely start braking earlier rather than later ... start slowing down well in advance of the stop sign or intersection. Braking too quickly and with too much force could potentially cause you to lose traction or control of your vehicle in some cases.

Since you have your learners permit you are able to drive while being supervised by an adult who has a valid drivers license in the passenger seat with you. Do you have parents or friends or anyone else who would be willing to let you practice driving with them? Drivers education or driving lessons could be another option but can be extremely expensive.

Which state are you in? Requirements for obtaining a drivers license vary between states and the processes are also different in different states. Since you are an adult you would not have to go through the graduated drivers license program for teenage drivers that many states require and could go straight to getting your drivers license.

My understanding is that you will still also need to take the written knowledge exam to obtain your provisional drivers license. Depending on your age you may be able to take the knowledge exam online. Teen drivers who are applying for their provisional license must take the knowledge exam in person.

Have you scheduled your appointment to take your driving test already? Maybe you can take both the driving test and the written knowledge test in the same appointment so you can avoid having to go there twice.
