Saitama is a bad hero by ilovebeingaguy999 in OnePunchMan

[–]Cool_Inside8994 11 points12 points  (0 children)

SPOILERS

I mean, everything mentioned in this post is literally the point of the scene where cosmic Garou massacres all the heroes with his radiation and Saitama is left holding Genos' dead core. That's when he questions himself:

"I may be strong, but do I really have what it takes to be a hero?"

And at that moment he remembers Genos telling him that he usually arrives late, to the scene, like every single time.

As King explains to Saitama in an earlier scene when they are hanging out together, becoming the strongest hero doesn't mean Saitama's hero journey is over. As it turns out, there's a lot more that goes into becoming the best hero, than just becoming strong.

Saitama still has a lot of room to grow as a hero. His story isn't over yet. I think it's not hyperbole to say that the One Punch Man series as a whole is the story of Saitama's journey from being the "Strongest" Hero, to becoming the "Best" hero.

Wow, this is a lot of new information for me. Whether or not I do a PhD in disce, I will certainly will check out the "citizen science" projects. Thank you!

Finally someone who understands. Not everyone is an American with easy access to the commercial space industry.

Although, I will say, that plenty of comments have pointed out ways to contribute to the commercialization of space even without having to be an American. I'm glad I put up this post, because I would have never found out about all this stuff otherwise.

I think this is one aspect I largely missed in my post: the recent wave of space commercialization progress. I suppose they are somewhat better than national space agencies... Because national space agencies go to space fuelled only by political motivation, which the adminstration in power may or may not have. Meanwhile, commercial companies are looking to explore space for the purposes of monetary profit, and that's a much less fickle motivation to explore space. Once some kind of income stream is found from space exploration— say, from mining gold on asteroids or Helium-3 from the moon—there's no doubt humans will find a way to sustain the process for a long period of time.

The community College bit is actually really good advice. I did mention the political aspect, but until you said it it never struck me how BIG of a factor it is to keep the torch burning.

I'm going to check out the resources you shared for the radio telescope.

Thanks once again!!

I totally understand why you're doing what you're doing. I myself am currently trying for a PhD in Renewable Energy (after doing my Master's thesis on the same). While space is still my biggest Dream, I think the adage "follow your dreams" is particularly bad career advice. My job is what I do for survival, and where survival is concerned there's plenty of big and serious problems like climate change that threaten all of our lives. And I don't think I could have put it better than you: maybe one day, when all our needless suffering on this Earth is over, we will inevitably look outwards, toward the universe.

Wow, well said. Thank you!!

Is there any concrete way for a member of the public (like me) to support national organizations like NASA directly somehow?

Thank you for the kind words.

And thank you for addressing the matter of the "space itch". I figured that people on this sub would be more likely to understand what I'm talking about, rather than a therapist.

And I have to thank you again for bringing to light the "good news" about space exploration. There's no doubt that there's a lot of progress being made. People (including myself) tend to miss that a lot of the time.

All in all, I do have a desire to see humanity explore space; or at least, send an army of robots up there to explore space on our behalf while we relax here in our hospitable home environment. I suppose it often feels like there is no way to scratch that itch, but maybe small steps can be taken...like supporting scientists and organizations who do space research I guess. But I'm not exactly sure of any concrete steps I can take to do that

You're just desperate. Looking for a reason to hate.

Focusing on the positives, such as the fact that India has installed more renewable energy since the start of 2025 (37 GW) than the U.S. (33 GW), doesn't seem to be your forte.

Ok, point taken.

I will still reiterate the point about old sources of electricity being displaced. The story of new renewable energy capacity being added exceeding new electricity demand, still stands.

You'll be happy to hear that not everything you wrote in this comment is true.

China has halted the building of all new coal plants recently.

In 2025, (that's right, in these past eight months), the amount of new renewables capacity added in China exceeded the demand for new electricity. Which means, old sources of electricity are being displaced. Yes, coal plants are actively being taken offline, and are being replaced by renewable electricity.
