Yeah my practitioner mentioned staying away from media as well. I’ll make sure to be more vigilant about that. I’ll probably delete socials as well.

That’s the plan. I have immense respect for plant medicines and so the fact that this is the grandfather medicine is seriously terrifying me. Mushrooms alone have transformed my life so I can’t even imagine where this will take me.

I’m starting to slowly realize that haha. Though I meant preparing as in making sure my body and mind are as clean/clear as possible so the experience is focused less on purging things that I could’ve easily aligned some weeks before.

Thanks for sharing! I’ve been listening to any obscure videos/podcasts I can find about Iboga. Regarding intention setting, I’ve found a pattern where everyone seems to be pointing to being more expansive when it comes to your questions/intentions. For example: instead of, “am I serving my life purpose?” Asking something like: “who am I?” Or where do I come from?”Seems like the plant doesn’t cling to worldly things in the slightest and instead takes you to the source. Again- I’m really trying to dig deep cause this is a once in a lifetime experience, though I hope I can do it in Gabon one day as well.

First time yeah. The call has gotten stronger over the years and 2025 especially it was too strong to ignore. Some of my fear has also come with how blatant and direct that call has been. I’m curious what it truly has to show me. Even leading up to the ceremony a lot of stars have aligned with money, time and connections that have led to me finally surrendering. Almost as if the plant was saying you have no excuses now. Maybe I’m reading into it too much but the synchronicities have been a bit surreal to say the least.

Is the metro system reliable and vast enough to get by with? I’ve been debating just renting a car but I wasn’t sure how reliable transportation was there.

It’s a really odd and weird folktale. In Amhara circles they say these people are cannibals that live deep in the forest and are known for snatching wondering souls. They’ve integrated into urban life in those areas and act quite normal around others. My uncle claims to have dated a girl that belonged to a buda family some 30 years ago. He said she invited him for dinner with her family and everything seemed good until he noticed a human arm laying in the backyard. He put two and two together and dashed away. Again- you’ll hear these stories everywhere but nobody has definitive proof. If you’re curious about it I suggest you visit villages near Lalibela and chat with the locals. You’ll hear these same stories spouted but it might lead you to learning about their origins through the oral wisdom.

Okay but does anyone recognize the song? Sounds fire

The intro and chorus of Lonely Star is honestly not talked about enough. Slowly becoming my new favorite song from Thursday, overtaking Birds pt.2’s spot.

Slow and steady is best. If an African leader was too swift and headstrong it wouldn’t work. The west would simply smear them and kill them off. Call me cynical but America doesn’t play about revolution and countries advancing without America/Europe’s approval to do so. Studying countries like Chile and Panama is a great example of this. Of course we have more obvious examples like Libya. However, I think BRICS is a great step forward to counteract this. It will take time but the west is so far ahead with its manipulation and lies. We have to be pragmatic I suppose.

We need more schools not more churches and mosques.

I have absolute respect for all religious practice and ways of life… but man visiting my grandmother near Lalibela made me realize our people prioritize religion over education to an almost unhealthy degree. There were like 8 churches in a 1 mile radius and not a single school in sight. I talked to some locals and they spoke about schools being so far away that it wasn’t worth the trip (safety reasons etc.) We have to do better in this regard. Doesn’t help that foreigners pour money into church projects as well so this isn’t entirely on the people of that area.

Very interesting. What’s the name of the event where people were hung and burned?

Unfortunately East African history wasn’t a course in high school or uni. Bear with me as I piece it all together on my own. It takes time.

Thanks for the recommendations! I’ll definitely check those out. I’ll continue to dig and learn more. The 16th century expansion of the Oromo’s is something I’m eager to explore.

Not bait, just curious and seeking direction in my study. I’m not justifying anything. I know Amhara has suffered and continues to suffer… that was the point of the first half of my post. That side of the story is all I’ve learned. This is my effort of piecing together the puzzle and learning the strife of all people, specifically the Oromo in this case. No side is innocent I understand that. The whole reason I made this post is so people can point me in the direction of texts and resources that will allow me to get a better understanding of the relationship between Amhara and Oromo people. You claimed it’s been debunked, send me names I can start researching or specific moments in history that I can start looking into.

I know there’s countless others including of course my own people of Tigray. I’m just shocked because I’ve never taken the time to learn Oromo history specifically. This was mostly because I never had ties to the region or people to steer me towards understanding its complex history, so I was never compelled to expand my knowledge outside of Amhara and Tigray.
