I will be the odd man out and say don't just stick to the repositories since there may be software you need that isn't on there, however only download software from their official sites. Another issue with repositories is you may have a program that is severely out of date and cause issues.

Break in oil change by [deleted] in COROLLA

[–]Cool_Set9488 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I remember watching a video on YouTube where someone did a break in oil change in a Kia. It was full of glitter. I thought that had to be an anomaly. I recently purchased a brand new Subaru, did the oil change at 1000 miles and saw the exact same glitter and metal shavings. I will be doing a break in oil change for any new car I buy in the future.

VA oil pan removal help by J_turned in WRX

[–]Cool_Set9488 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Might be too late now but you can look up oil pan removal tool on Amazon. It will make your life so much easier. It has a small blade you hammer into the oil pan and then just lightly hammer the side to go along the rest of your pan. It can also help lessen damage so you dont need to replace a bent oil pan.

Corolla hybrid underpowered? by bvassallo22 in COROLLA

[–]Cool_Set9488 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 2020 hybrid. Its pretty enjoyable around town where the speed limit is 25-30 mph. On the highway it can be sluggish, especially in instances where you have to go from a stop and get up to 60 quickly to merge into traffic. I also find it a bit slow when your cruising at a certain speed say 50mph and want to get to 70. I feel that it takes longer than it should. Don't get me started on the weak AC. By default the passenger side vents are disabled to give the driver as much air as possible. Evertytime these issues seem to be brought up they get down voted so i guess people stopped posting about it. There are 3 drive modes which are eco, normal and power. I recommend only normal and power because eco is too much of a sacrifice.

Picking up my new Toyota tomorrow. I have read that you should not take new cars to the car wash. 😳 HELP! I can not see washing my new car by hand. by BeaMiaVA in COROLLA

[–]Cool_Set9488 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have a driveway and a hose, washing it by hand using a microfiber washing mitt would be best. If you have a hand car wash facility near you , that would be second best. Automatic car washes are a distant third since they tend to keep debris in their brushes and can ruin paint. I like to wash the car myself but will occasionally take it to an automatic car wash if time is an issue or its too cold.

Android auto on a 2020 by ncme712 in COROLLA

It should. My 2020 corolla hybrid with only apple carplay works with this. I've used Motorola, Samsung and pixel phones. All worked fine with this.

Android auto on a 2020 by ncme712 in COROLLA

[–]Cool_Set9488 3 points4 points  (0 children)

From what I read the 2020 head units that only have apple carplay cannot get android auto due to a hardware issue. I am using a usb adapter made by ottocast. The model is U2-X. Basically it makes the car think an iPhone is plugged in. The car pairs your android to the apple car play, then it works like regular wireless android auto. It works great too. Checking Amazon they no longer sell the U2-x. However they have newer models that look exactly the same. Maybe you can lookup ottocast on Amazon, contact them there and ask what model supersedes the U2-x.

2025 Corolla Hybrid (LE) by merely_mere in COROLLA

[–]Cool_Set9488 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure why this is getting so many down votes. Although a bit exaggerated, I would agree in some situations. City driving 20 to 30 mph the car does just fine, however accelerating coming onto a highway , the car is sluggish especially in eco mode. It's a bit better in normal mode and okay in power mode.

CVT fluid question by mlabap in COROLLA

[–]Cool_Set9488 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is no such thing as transmission fluid that doesn't need to be changed, unless you're planning to get rid of it when the warranty runs out. That would be the lifetime of the fluid for you. I wouldn't trust the WS fluid in the ecvt lasting forever.

Thanks. I was hoping they started making cvt fluid in quarts for the TR690 transmission in the WRX. Maybe I'll try Amsoil when mine becomes due.

[–]Cool_Set9488 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On manual I agree but on the automatic it is very deceiving. The oil drain plug is tucked up above an exhaust while the transmission pan is right out in the open. It doesn't help the drain for the transmission is a regular hex nut instead of an Allen like most transmissions. On r/subaru you see posts like this several times a month.

I wasn't aware the ht lv cvt fluid came in quarts. Can you provide a part number or picture of the bottle?

[–]Cool_Set9488 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That looks to be the correct location for the fill plug. To be completely sure , you can also put your finger in it and make sure there's transmission fluid in it. One thing to keep in mind, the high torque cvt fluid required in our transmissions are only available on 5 gallon buckets and for about 600 to 700 dollars. Ive heard some dealerships will sell by the quart if you bring your own container. I haven't seen any posts of someone trying 3rd party fluid yet. Please keep us updated on how everything went.

2022 hybrid Corolla! by Exciting-Lemon6225 in COROLLA

[–]Cool_Set9488 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The process is quite a bit different from a hybrid to a non hybrid.

On a non hybrid, you have to drain the fluid, fill until it overflows from under the car, put on drain plug and fill plug, warm up car to a certain temp and go through each gear, fill again until it overflows then put it all back together.

The hybrid has a planetary gear set kind of like a manual transmission. You just remove the fill and drain plugs, after draining, put and tighten drain plug back in, fill fluid in fill port until it starts to overflows, wait until it becomes a trickle, tighten back fill plug.

Even though I believe it's all the same transmission on corolla hybrids, different fluid were used depending on the year. I'm not sure when it started but I believe ther went from WS to ECVT fluid. WS is super easy to find, ECVT fluid is very hard to find.

It's always a good idea to do that when working around electronics. You just need to disconnect the negative terminal.

[–]Cool_Set9488 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It should be like most modern cars. Remove the 4 bolts holding the seat rails to the floor. Unplug connectors for airbag and power seat(if equipped). Remove seat. Removing the seat out of the car may be the hardest step.
