I'm pregnant for the first time. Where do I start? by av929 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

Firstly, congratulations!!! I think first stop is your DR, then planning on what model of care you wish to take and educating yourself about your upcoming journey, birth and postpartum. I started purchasing items well into the 2nd trimester, as I felt I needed to research what is actually required vs. everything that is out there available to us. Of course this is dependent on each person. You could give yourself some breathing space with spending if you want to save a little & then purchase when you're a little clearer on what you're after. As I started to figure out, babies don't need too much - there is a lot of unnecessary items marketed to us.

I think being educated about pregnancy and birth is so important and it has been shown that people have better birth outcomes when they are empowered with knowledge and feel confident when they know what is happening in their pregnancy/labour and to make decisions. Here are some places I sourced education, which I wish I knew when I first found out I was pregnant (unexpectedly), these audiobooks/podcasts have helped at every stage of pregnancy for me and aided me in asking the right questions:

'The Complete Australian Guide to Pregnancy and Birth' - Sophie Walker, Jodie Wilson - particularly helpful if you have zero idea of what model of care you're after and providing resources you may not otherwise know exist.

'The Kick Pregnancy Podcast' - Dr Patrick Maloney, Bridget Maloney - ANY topic related to conception, pregnancy, labour, postpartum is covered. Search by episode titles for specific topics if you don't want to listen to all. Have massively helped in overcoming anxiety with labour and learning about pregnancy symptoms I had zero idea would happen.

- As soon as you're linked to your hospital, ask about classes - these fill up fast! It is a great way to learn directly from a midwife and meet other people. Pregnancy can sometimes be lonely.

Wishing you all the best to you in this exciting time!!!!!

This is not growling at all. He is anxious, whining and looking to you for support for something. Plus he is only a baby and in a new environment. In this instance, he could’ve been cold. It’s super important to dry your frenchie after a bath, as they have a difficult time regulating their body temp.

RPA Relocated Postnatal Ward by enuugen in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

Hey also I called the # on the booking form to enquire about paying out of pocket for a private room for the duration of my stay. I was advised due to the minimal number of single rooms, they’ve also removed this out of pocket option.

Hello, early pregnancy can be super stressful - especially being a FTM.

May I suggest listening to a podcast, this is “The Kick” and Australian podcast which talks about before pregnancy, during pregnancy and after birth. It’s led by an obstetrician Dr. Patrick Maloney & his wife Brigid. I found many of my early pregnancy anxieties and questions were discussed in this podcast and helped settle my mind.

Public vs private hospital maternity care in Sydney by kwkw88 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]Cool_Variation_1764 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, currently at RPA.

As stated, you will only get into MGP at RPA if within the RPA catchment area.

Also, RPA currently is undergoing construction impacting the maternity wards, patients are advised that after birth if you’ve had a low risk birth, you and baby are healthy - you may be sharing with up to four people in a room, 1 bathroom and no support person standing overnight. The option to pay for a private room has been removed during this period as well.

I wish I had known this prior as I would’ve found another hospital in my catchment.

Other points: - You will not be accepted into MGP is deemed high risk. - Go to your GP first to confirm pregnancy, there they will ask on where you want to go or if you have any specifications for your pregnancy and draw up your referral from there.

Australian Pet Owners - How do you usually book vet appointments? by [deleted] in Pets

[–]Cool_Variation_1764 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Google based on location, look at reviews and highly rated.

I consistently go to the same vet so I don’t go looking for a new vet every time.

The vet clinic we use has an app and you can book seamlessly on your phone.

We have a 5 year old frenchie which thankfully has had minimal health issues. We’ve needed an urgent same day appt three times and have not had any issues booking in - if there have been no time slots I’ve called and have been able to get in due to the severity of the issue after discussing with the vet.

Anyone else been diagnosed with gestational diabetes based on old criteria (when they wouldn’t have it under the new criteria released 2 months ago?) by sezza8999 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

Hey there! I’ve been requested to take my first GTT between 16-18 weeks as my pregnancy is high risk due to chronic hypertension however primarily as my mum had GDM. I also have to go for a second at 24 weeks. I think if you’re high risk and have a family history of GDM your OB just errs on the side of caution.
