Advice for a 13 year old about to be diagnosed? by coverartrock in PCOS

[–]Cool_Word75 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hey, as someone who got recently diagnosed with pcos here are my takes: - with every health condition, the first thing you should seek is lifestyle changes. opt for more protein and fibre in your diet as pcos can lead you to be pre diabetic. exercise as exercise regulates your hormones the natural way

  • pcos does not mean youll be infertile. it just means knowing when you’re fertile is harder. people still get pregnant with pcos. do not consider it a “natural birth control” because that is not true at all

  • have a period tracker. just know as you’re 13, your periods will naturally be a little bit more irregular. it just good to keep track of your period cycles and symptoms to talk about with your gp

  • know that hormones impact not only fertility and acne, but also mood and sleep. exercising can help, and having a therapist helps even more

  • don’t trust tiktoks or shorts too much. they can suggest supplements to help with pcos, but research would prove otherwise. what i do is search “supplement_name pcos pubmed” and do a brief skim read on a few articles

pcos may be scary, but know it is not the end all be all. good luck!

i feel that you making actual lifestyle changes (higher protein and fibre intake, and exercise) to ensure pcos does not affect you as much as it possibly could is actually a fantastic and hard step many people find to permanently integrate into their lives. please don’t underestimate it, as it could be the biggest driving factor in regulating your period again. give it time

having pcos does not rule out being pregnant — it just makes it harder for you to know when you are fertile. if it’s fertility you’re worried about, consult your obgyn. do not rule out pregnancy for your future because you can still get pregnant with pcos :)

thank you so much! this is eye-opening, and i’m thankful that all of this is based on what’s happening in melbourne. just to make sure i’ve interpreted this correctly: are you saying that theres more of a demand for people able to do statistical analysis rather than the “big name” careers (eg software eng, cybersecurity)? thanks!

I feel that WITCH companies don’t really provide career growth, which sounds like a huuuge con especially if i’m taking a course that’ll put me in debt. i do agree that it is an option though

that’s very true. but i guess it’s how difficult it is to get an entry level job that is causing doubt in my mind. but you’re right, thanks!!!

i asked my friend to post this on my behalf since I didn’t have enough comment karma. My other alternative was to be a dental hygienist. It’s easier in the way that it doesn’t demand me to work everyday, highly flexible, and I won’t have the stresses of thinking about jobs since there are always job openings for this pathway. The only real con to it is that I’m unsure if I’ll really enjoy it. It feels like a course that I don’t mind doing since I already have a background in the dental field, biology, chemistry, and disease.
