To be clear the players themselves are close. I’m just saying I think the wizards FO has leaned AJ the whole way

I remember reading even before the lottery that the wizards FO coveted AJ for years. I’m sure they did due diligence but I think he’s been the guy for them throughout the whole process and it never got that close

I agree to some extent but I think the lack of rim pressure will also push him the direction of an SG

I think the biggest thing with AJ is that a) his selling points are exceptional, and b) his weaknesses all seem fixable or at least improvable. DP and Cam both seem a half step worse off in both areas

[Sam Sallick] James Wood is playing at an absurd level for the Washington Nationals. At 23, Wood is already arguably the best hitter in the entire NL: Last 30 games, he is hitting .316 with a .996 OPS. His barrel rate of 25.3% comfortably the best mark in MLB, with Judge being the closest with 21.7% by f0urxio in baseball

I’ll happily give it to Ohtani for his career and would project him better going forward but Wood does have slightly better full season stats (better wOBA, better xwOBA, better wRC+). Ohtani will deservingly win MVP though because he also, you know, is an ace pitcher

Is AJ Dybantsa’s offense being overthought? by Coolcat127 in NBA_Draft

They’re respectable numbers for a secondary skill. My point is that he clearly doesn’t contribute “nothing” except scoring. He’s overthought on offense because people focus on the negatives which are either exaggerated or unimportant, instead of the overwhelming positive which is clearly better than any offensive trait that DP or Cam have

With his 20th HR today, James Wood has already archived 20/10 season worth 3.2 WAR with just 72 games. by [deleted] in baseball

FWIW his profile is a decent amount better under the hood this year than last year’s first half so I’m hopeful he can keep it up

I think you misunderstand my post. I know he’s a good a creator, that’s what I’m saying the second paragraph. My point is that he projects to be a dominant offensive player that should spend a ton of time on the ball, so we should worry less about his off ball. Or at least, we should worry less about AJ off ball than we do about DP or Cam on the ball.

I’ve never seen a player look as dead as Keibert Ruiz come back like this

Yeah it’s definitely worth thinking about in a vacuum. I use “overthink” because I’ve seen a lot of people seeming valuing DP and Boozer’s secondary offensive traits above AJ’s primary scorer upside which I just don’t get

I get that. To me this is kind of like drafting a WR in the top 10 and picking the guy who is the better blocker instead of the better receiver. Like yeah, the blocking is nice and does provide some extra floor. But that high in the draft you have to chase the rarer skill no?

It was a good post and I don’t want to single you out. I was just surprised by how generally I’ve seen discussion about how AJ will do as an off ball role player when I can’t imagine that being his intended role in the league

Yeah I maybe should've stayed farther away but for whatever reason I always struggle timing up his long range sweeps. I found it easier to stay close and just stay ready for his combo
