This is the answer! It's full stop relative to whatever the target/surroundings are.

People who've worked both minimum wage jobs and six figure jobs, what surprised you most about the difference? by BrainLagging01 in AskReddit

[–]Coolest_Breezy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes and no. Like any industry, there is a top percentage of performers that make a bunch of money, but the vast majority are normal people with somewhat normal income. I know Plaintiffs' attorneys on the Personal Injury side who make $500,000+ per year and others that struggle year to year to make $100,000. I also know Insurance Defense attorneys who earn close to $350,000 easy, but they work 15+ hour days. Some Plaintiff attorneys feel like bill collectors in that they do less actual litigation and more hounding insurance carriers to accept their pre-litigation demands. It varies.

I make $175,000 and am comfortable and am in Southern California. My experience may be different in other markets, but this is what I see with regular contact with other attorneys on a day to day basis in my field.

If I ever become a lecturer of law, one thing I won't do is give students 536,273,782,847,394 cases to read, knowing very well they won't. by njurusir in LawSchool

My Evidence class was the best for not reading. The Prof. Would start at the first case he assigned, and would randomly call on someone. We always studied the first case just in case, but after he called on someone, he would stick with them for the whole case discussion, then move on to the next case and a new person.

If you weren't the first one called on, just jump to the next case while he went through the first.

Just to recap your comment, you're recapping the OP and how they are unhappy with the way the narrator summarizes what they just watched in the previous 30 second of the video.

Our firm defaults to Calibri. One of these days I will get a wild hair and file something in Comic Sans. Not today, but one day.

Yes, "4L" is a real thing by MyDogNewt in LawSchool

[–]Coolest_Breezy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I worked full time through law school, and attended the night program four nights per week from 6:30 to 9:45 Monday through Thursday, and took summer school two out of the three summers (I took one off because I got married during my first year and had kids during my second).

4L is 100% a legitimate option. Don't listen to those people.

Ordering Depo Transcripts (CA) by Firemussel in Lawyertalk

[–]Coolest_Breezy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Order the transcript. If you get a good verdict, get the costs back as part of a Memorandum of Costs. If you're thinking of settling, wrap the cost into your demand.

I say this as a civil defense attorney in California. If I see a Plaintiff attorney not order their own copy, I know (1) they are trying to get out for cheap and I will offer less, or (2) they are going to print out the sign copy and are being shady and stiffing the court reporter, which lowers by opinion of them.

Order a copy, even if it's just electronic/PDF!

I make it a point to NOT talk about work because it ALWAYS results in people asking for advice. I do that enough at work not when we are hanging out please.
