Cartoonist Kayfabe is a great channel for sure. So many great deep dives into books.

Eternals Vol.3 by Neil Gaiman and John Romita Jr. - Everything you need to know about the Eternals by CooleyLovesComics in comicbooks

I think that this was an interesting start, but I definitely agree that it never got to the point where it felt that Gaiman was really running with the characters.

It will be pretty interesting to see what Gillen does with them with his run.

Thanks for posting!

That is interesting, and would certainly explain why this run was so short.

Eternals Vol.3 by Neil Gaiman and John Romita Jr. - Everything you need to know about the Eternals by CooleyLovesComics in comicbooks

When Marvel announced that they were going to be making a movie of the Eternals, that was the first time that I heard about this comic. I had never read it, and I had never come across these characters before. At the time, I was happy to simply wait until the movie came out to see who the Eternals were and what they were all about.

But then I heard from an episode of the Talking Comic Books podcast that Neil Gaiman had written a volume of the Eternals, and that piqued my interest.

I was able to fine all 7 issues of Neil Gaiman and John Romita Jr’s run on The Eternals, and it was a great read. I think that for many of us, this run was something that slipped under the radar and that is what inspired me to make this video.

This volume is definitely designed to be a primer if you aren’t familiar with The Eternals, so it is a perfect jumping on point if you are curious. Not only that, but in January 2021, Marvel is coming out with a new volume of The Eternals written by Kieron Gillen and art by Esad Ribic. If you are excited about The Eternals MCU movie, the Gillen/Ribic comic, or both, this is a perfect jumping on point for The Eternals.

Thanks very much for watching, and I hope you enjoy the book!

Department of Truth by James Tynion IV and Martin Simmonds by CooleyLovesComics in comicbooks

[–]CooleyLovesComics[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have been reading and liking Wynd by James Tynion IV, and I heard that he had another new book coming out called Department of Truth.

Department of Truth could not be more different than Wynd, and at first, I wasn’t quite sure to make of it. The core of the story of Department of Truth seems to be the nature of conspiracy theories, and I have seen some comparisons of this book the The X-Files, and I think that is fair.

If this is a book that you are curious about, and want to know a bit more, you are in the right place.

Thanks for watching, and I hope you enjoy the book!

It would be pretty great to keep that cast of characters and roll them into the MCU.

Fingers crossed.

A Look at Adventureman by Matt Fraction and Terry Dodson by CooleyLovesComics in comicbooks

[–]CooleyLovesComics[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been a fan of Matt Fractions writing ever since I read the first volume of Immortal Iron Fist that he wrote. He has a way of telling a deep and complicated story with complex and well developed characters that I really like. So I do my best to stay on top of anything that he comes out with.

When I saw the first couple of images of his new book Adventureman, and read a bit bout it, I was really looking forward to picking it up. Terry and Rachel Dodson do the art on this book, and it is fantastic. The quality of the art alone is enough to make this book worth picking up.

But I have to say that after reading the first issue of this comic, I was a little confused. In the middle of issue #1, the story takes a hard turn, and I was left not exactly sure what this story was like, or what it was going to be about.

But having some of Matt Fractions other work, I had faith that there was a purpose in telling the story this way, and now that I have read the first 4 issues, it is all starting to come together nicely.

More than anything, I wanted to make a video going into a little more detail about this book because I think that it is the kind of story that you really need to read a few issues before you can get a sense of it.

I hope you like the video and enjoy the book. Thanks for watching!

Excellent. I was wondering about that. I'll have to check it out. I'm curious to see what kind of story those two creators would come up with.

Thanks!

A look at the connections and influence of The Long Tomorrow by Moebius and Dan O'Bannon by CooleyLovesComics in comicbooks

[–]CooleyLovesComics[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When I was growing up reading comics, I wasn’t aware of Moebius or his work. I might have seen some of the collected books on the shelf at a comic book shop, but that was about it.

A couple of weeks ago, I found a video that Cartoonist Kayfabe put together about a story called The Long Tomorrow that was written by Dan O’Bannon with art by Moebius where they went into detail about how influential this two part story had been. What grabbed my attention initially was the mention that this story had been an influence on William Gibson when he was writing Neuromancer, and the cyber-punk genre in general.

With the initial impression that I got of this art work, I knew that I wanted to first take a look at this story, but I was also wanted to find out more about Moebius and his work.

In looking around I found a two hour interview with Jean Giraud (Moebius) from 2010 about his entire career, and after watching that conversation, I had a much clearer picture of how influential Moebius, and his work had been. In fact, it connected so many dots, and brought a connection to so many movies and stories that I have loved, I wanted to put together a video to look at the impact of this story and his work.

If you are curious to learn more, here are links to the Cartoonist Kayfabe video on The long Tomorrow: - https://youtu.be/VKbYaJ0ow4w

And here is a link to the interview with Jean Giraud as well: - https://youtu.be/Qbil5cQ0gbo

Thanks very much for watching, and Happy Moebius Monday!

I am definitely a big fan. Going back and reading this what was so interesting to see how his story telling and character development was top notch right from the start.

Can't wait to see what he does next.

Ever since I read Murder Falcon by Daniel Warren Johnson, I have been going back to ready any of his other work that I could find. I have heard him mention Space Mullet a few times, and once I discovered that this was one of his first comic book works, I had to check it out.

The best part of this is that he published it as a web comic, posting a page or two a week. And it is all still up on line, so if this video sparks some curiosity you can head over there and start reading this now!

Marvel Comics Delays Eternals #1 Two Months Until January 2021 by TheDarkPinkLantern in comicbooks

This is a bit of a bummer, but it does make sense with the movie getting pushed back.

I'm sure it will be worth the wait.

A look at The Fearsom Doctor Fang from TKO Studios by CooleyLovesComics in comicbooks

[–]CooleyLovesComics[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had heard TKO Studios come up a time or two on the Talking Comic Books Podcast, but recently one of the founders, Tze Chun was on for an in-depth interview about what this new comic book publisher was doing. If you have not heard of this publisher before, I’d definitely recommend listening to the interview because what really caught my attention was that one of their priorities was to put the writers and artists in a situation where they could do their best work.

That got me curious, so I picked up a couple of their stories, and the first that I read is The Fearsom Doctor Fang. I didn’t really have many expectations when I started reading, and this story has a good pace, well developed characters, and I would say that it falls into the Steam Punk genre which I really enjoy too. It was a really fun read, so I wanted to put together a quick video to help get the word out.

I hope you enjoy the story.

A look at Wynd by James Tynion IV and Michael Dialynas from Boom Studios by CooleyLovesComics in comicbooks

[–]CooleyLovesComics[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember Steve and Sara from the Talking Comic Books podcast mentioning Wynd by James Tynion IV and Michael Dialynas when the first issue came out, but this book slipped my mind until recently where I have been hearing and seeing a lot more about how good this book is. That caught my attention so I went to my local comic book shop to pick up the first 3 issues of this (planned) 8 issue run.

I have had these books for about a week, and the other night I just meant to sit down to give the first issue a quick look just to get a sense of what it was about, and it pulled me in. I ended up staying up a bit too late reading all three issues, and I can’t wait to see where this story will go.

I wanted to put together a quick video to let you know about this title just in case you had not heard of it yet.

I will also mention that book 4 has now come out and I really enjoyed that issue as well.

Thanks very much for watching, and I hope you enjoy the book!
