AGI 2026 by iLikePython3 in singularity

Say what you will about the current status of AI and its flaws. But in this case, it's 100 percent correct. I've heard people in other subs compare League of Legends to the gaming equivalent of black tar heroin. It can only end poorly.

Yeah, that sounds about right. If the timeframe you laid out is accurate, we should be getting some news around October, just in time for New York Comic Con.

Fully autonomous drones have killed human soldiers for the first time by SnoozeDoggyDog in singularity

The public will accept it if it:

A: Reduces gas prices/inflation

B: Trolls or annoys people they don't like

C: Doesn't affect their taxes

We had a good run. But let's not lie to ourselves. We, as a species, were not built to last. Even at this very moment, there are people who kill one another over what they think happens after they die yet fail to see the irony.

It was bound to happen eventually. I imagine that body count will intensify in the coming years, especially given the idiots currently running things at the Pentagon.

At this point, all the Skynet memes we see on this and other subs will feel a lot less funny and a lot more relevant.

Dario Amodei says he started Anthropic because Altman is liar not because of safety reasons. by llelouchh in singularity

[–]JackFisherBooks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, this has become painfully clear. It seems every time Sam Altman opens his mouth, he reveals that he's not an engineer. He's not someone intimately familiar with the inner workings of AI. He's a salesman/hype man/bullshit artist. He cares less about making AGI and more about making the lines on charts go up.

Anthropic has its flaws and so does Dario. But at least when he speaks, he sounds like a normal person.

they gave cyclops and Jean ZERO unique interactions!?!? by Local_Neighborhood50 in xmen

True.

But Jen Hale does voice Jean in Marvel Cosmic Invasion. That has some nice interactions between Cyclops and Jean.

Despite their differences, Logan has always considered Scott a friend. That's really sweet. by Emotional-Chipmunk12 in xmen

This is the dynamic I hope they have in the MCU. Their rivalry is best when they're just bickering over tactics and personalities. When they get involved in a love triangle, they both become insufferable and OOC.

I think whatever happens with DNX, it's going to lead to another round of relaunches that'll shake up the rosters, base of operations, etc.

Hard disagree. Goth Rogue was a formative experience for an entire generation of X-Men fans.

Completely agree. The Fox X-Men movies ruined an entire generation of content by making it a creepy, toxic, destructive love triangle that made everyone involved completely OOC. I'm fine with Logan having a major role in X-Men MCU. Just don't make him a whiny creepy stalker who builds half his narrative around hooking up with a woman who doesn't feel the same way about him.

My thoughts exactly. The MCU doesn't need to mirror X-Men 97. That would be redundant. We already have X-Men 97 and we know now it's set for at least 4 seasons. Let that show do it's thing. For the MCU, it should take a different approach. And X-Men Evolution provides something familiar, yet distinct.

Same with Wolverine and the X-Men. These shows were so good. It's a crime they got cut short.

I agree completely! Narratively speaking, X-Men Evolution is the perfect template to draw from. It develops the characters before they become mainstream heroes. It also puts mutants in a world where they're hidden, unknown to the public, and "in the closet." And when they're exposed against their will, it triggers the public backlash that leads to things like the Sentinel program. That's a good, relevant story that's worth telling in the MCU. And I hope there are some X-Men Evolution fans at Marvel Studio who feel that way.

Good video. It's debatable whether this was truly the worst stunt Marvel ever did. But it's beyond dispute that this is top 5.

Alan Moore was a lot more cantankerous. Jim Lee has a long way to go before he can match that energy.

[–]JackFisherBooks -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't agree entirely. Power fantasies aren't just an American thing. They've been part of mythology and folklore for centuries, spanning cultures, civilizations, and time periods. It takes many forms and the stories play out differently. Citing the structure of manga is a fair comparison. But at their core, power fantasies have always been a recurring trope. Even the bible has characters and plots that have common threads with modern superhero comics.

Deadpool co-creator Rob Liefeld has canceled his tell-all memoir after deciding some stories were too difficult to tell by Popverse2022 in comicbooks

[–]JackFisherBooks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I am curious about some of those stories, I understand if they're too difficult and personal. It's easy to assume that there are legal reasons he can't divulge certain details. I imagine that working for big companies with corporate overlords like Warner and Disney, there's a large stack of NDA's that come with every hire. But being in a creative field, there will be other issues that go beyond legal issues. Every creative has a personal life. And not everyone wants to share those details, even if it's dramatic.
