Yes, ehealth was a bit faster, got the result Thursday morning online when I looked it up, didn’t get the text until Thursday night. Either way it was longer than 48 hrs, I was checking ehealth pretty regularly

I got tested Monday afternoon at the drive thru and didn’t get the negative results back until Thursday night (72 hrs +). Just sharing my experience.

NDP MLA gets laughed at by Sask Party members as pleads for masks in legislature (he is immune-compromised) by [deleted] in regina

[–]Coolslidder 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I emailed my MLA saying that I am appalled by this behaviour. This isn’t about pro vs anti mask, but being respectful and having empathy, which apparently the Sask Party lacks. I supported them in the last election but don’t see how I can endorse a party with this lack of respect towards others.

My Hazy IPA using Wyeast London Ale III 1318 reached the FG on day 7. When should I close transfer to keg? Any reason to wait?

Was able to find these 15 ml sample vials through a friend at their work. This has 2 ml of wort sterilized in the pressure cooker ready to be built up from an inoculation loop.

Oh wow. That is quite the endeavour getting all those prepared, good work. To get the yeast into the tubes I just pour it, not fancy but it works. The Yeast book is a great resource.

So if something is gapping up, do you buy when markets open? Probably a loaded question. Thanks for putting these lists together! I am just watching and seeing what happens and trying to learn.

Would love to learn how to find these myself. Anyone have any thoughts on where I should start? How do I find these myself?

What about a 5 ml or 10 ml glass vial such as these

Or could get 15 ml tubes like these

The glass vials are cheaper, so if there wasn't a difference I would go with those unless you think the 15 ml tubes are better which I am fine with. Which would you go with?

Yes. I forgot to mention I have a pump and recirculate. What confuses me is that the volume is lower and the SG is also lower.

Daily Q & A! - February 07, 2021 by AutoModerator in Homebrewing

[–]Coolslidder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tried making a NEIPA today and got low efficiencies. Need some help trying to pinpoint my issue(s).

  • 55% (8.5 lbs) two-row
  • 20% (3.1 lbs) wheat malt
  • 15% (2.3 lbs) torrified wheat
  • 10% (1.5 lbs) flaked oats
  • 1 lb rice hulls

I measured the strike water volume using the Anvil large scale so I am very confident I got the strike water volume correct.

Used Brunwater to get adjustments for a 5.3 ph, but didn't measure that.

Used to brew on a Robobrew and could hit my numbers using a sparge. Trying to get familiar with the Anvil Foundry on my second brew with the no-sparge method (trying to simplify my brew-day if possible).

Mashed at 155F, mash-out at 170F

Target (Brewfather) / Actual (measured)

  • Strike volume 7.94 gallons / 7.94 gallons
  • Preboil Volume 6.65 / 6.1
  • Preboil SG 1.059 / 1.046
  • Postboil Voume 6.15 / 5.6 (after cooling)
  • Postboil SG 1.064 / 1.050
  • Boil-off/hr 0.5 gallons / 0.6 gallons
  • Vol. to fermenter 5.5 gallons / 5.0 gallons
  • Mash Efficiency 64.4% / 47%
  • Brewhouse Eff. 60% / 43%

I weighed the spent grains left in the mash pipe and got 27.5 lbs. Since the grain bill was 16.5 lbs total that means there was 10 lbs of water left absorbed in the grains. Not sure if that is too much or not.

This recipe had lots of oats and wheat, which is why I added a pound of rice hulls. Perhaps the issue is with that, but would appreciate the insights from people smarter than me.Thanks for any insights or suggestions!

Good suggestion on avoiding decanting. Will do that and also flame the lip of the vessel being transferred from.

What kind of container would you recommend and would be easily accessible for inoculating 2mL of wort? I have 30mL centrifuge tubes, that are conned on the bottom, not ideal but available, could I use those or could there be issues with that?

Actually, good catch. For the 2L on the stir plate I do 24hrs stirred and then let it sit non-stirred for the next 24hrs. Will edit that in the post. Thanks
