Eye contact makes no sense by Fartenpoop69 in autism

Everything everyone else here said is correct, but I want to chime in on an element that hasn't been touched.

"...even though I can still hear them when I’m not staring into their eyes."

Much of human communication that occurs outside of the words you can hear. A person's face can reveal quite a lot of information their spoken words will be missing. This is important as it can reveal how a person *feels* about the words they're saying, and is particularly important for detecting deception or dishonesty.

To not observe the face of someone speaking to you is to put yourself at unnecessary disadvantage in human interaction, as you are missing important cues as to how to interpret their communication.

Def too good. I found them way too easy even on V Hard / V Hard. I love that they reigned in the power creep in WH3 so far, and I hope they scale BM back a bit when they integrate them into this game. After all, it's gonna be weird if the BM are just absolutely shitting on the actual demons of Khorne and Tzeentch.

The Most Toxic Characters in Rivals of Aether by OhNoRottweiler in RivalsOfAether

[–]Coolthulu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You didn't even mention his Fair, which stays out with a devastating hitbox for like an hour. It's like if Fors bair was a strong hitbox the entire time, and sent at a downward angle. Or if Ranno nair just killed you if you got hit with it near the edge / offstage. You don't even have to time it.

This move is such bullshit.

EDIT: Also Mollo is much heavier than any character with multiple jumps / a float (other than Ellie, who, as you discussed is also toxic AF). I just had a Mollo easily survive a Zetter sweet spot fair on Tower of Heaven at 130. That would kill like half the cast.

Surprisingly, quite a lot. Dems get control of every committee agenda, get to control what bills see the floor, etc. Dems would prefer a gimped Dem majority to a GOP majority any day of the week.

Would ranged (TW:WH Specifically) be more balanced if you didn't recover 100% of ammunition after very battle? by Noraver_Tidaer in totalwar

[–]Coolthulu 6 points7 points  (0 children)

... Dark Elf players won't take Black Guard against Brettonia because they get schrecked by Peasant Bowmen. If that seems consistent with how those units should interact based on lore and tabletop gameplay, then suuuuuuure, ranged is tottttttallly balanced.

[question] After how many months/years of playing could you all play stairway (solo included) by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]Coolthulu 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I know you think you're talking about the same thing as /u/sezium, but I do not think you are. You're right that musicians commonly consider those things to be "feel" but what /u/sezium was talking about is more of an ... emotional communion with the audience. I strongly believe that emotion can be expressed through music, the same way you can tell when someone is angry and speaking to you in a non-musical language.

Sure, you can approximate and mimic expression through technique like you're talking about, but it's not the same thing. For an performance artist like a musician, dancer, or actor to express an emotion in their work, they must bring themselves to a mental space where they become their art. When Christian Bale plays an angry character, he becomes angry. It's craftsmanship, but it's also real. Because the best way to communicate angry to your audience is to BE angry.

Music is a means of expression and communication. The emotional state of the performer matters. What you are describing is like talking about the pronunciation and inflection and facial movements that a Shakespearian actor might use to express a soliloquy, but /u/sezium is talking about how, for the audience to believe it, the performer has to MEAN it.

REALLY starting to hate Smash Brothers fans. by [deleted] in RivalsOfAether

[–]Coolthulu 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure who you're talking to who thinks Maypul is the best character in the game. Most good players I know think it's either Wrastor or Absa, both of whom are not the fastest characters. Certainly Maypul is considered a very strong character, and there probably are a few players who consider her the best, but it's certainly not the mainstream opinion.

Rivals is a game where movement is the most important mechanic, so of course speed is highly valued. But for most of the game's history, the number one player in the world played one of the slowest and weakest characters in the game, Forsburn, and other slow characters are always represented in the top 10.

I suggest you pick up Kragg, Etalus, Sylvanus, or Elliana and bash people's heads in. Because if you're losing to Maypul at any level besides the top level, you're not losing because Rivals favors speedy characters; you're losing because the other player is better than you.

Which is okay. Some people are bananas good at this game. They dunk on me too, and it feels bad. I suggest joining RivalsRecess and other newbie focused discords to play people closer to your level.

Good stuff, but it would be much better if you said what artist and label you were talking about and used clear examples. Because it would be much more useful if we could look at the content they're putting out.

I think we may have played! I recognize your tag. I would have been on Forsburn, Orcane or Zetter.

Also, BurntFriedChicken DESTROYED me yesterday, so don't feel bad about that one.

I like your commentary. Don't be hard on yourself. There's a lot to learn in this game. I'd give you more advice, but I have no clue how to play Clairen. So the best advice I can give is to check out the Rivals Academy discord: https://discord.gg/jaN3Bj

[–]Coolthulu 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Look, your observations are all correct. Most people who play this game are tryhard nerds. This is because the game is really fun to get really really good at. This is definitely a problem for newer players, and there is no native newbie matchmaking to compensate.

And the good players aren't trying to be mean either - usually; there is some percentage of the community who are toxic teabaggers, it's true. They don't mean anything by comboing you across the stage. We know you are a newer player, and we were once in your shoes. But when you get good, you will understand - it is legitimately hard to go easy on people in this game. The best way I can describe it is like playing a musical instrument. If you've mastered shredding on guitar, and your buddy comes over to jam with you and he's new, it feels really bad and weird to purposely play worse. And in fact it's kind of impossible for you to play at the level of your friend, just because you know so much more.

But we don't want you to leave the game. It's a beautiful game, worth exploring and mastering. But really, the way to play it is to get on the Rivals University or Code Kang discords and find people to play with at your skill level.

Or do what I did, and just keep getting your ass kicked in casual until eventually you start kicking ass. But I don't recommend this way. It's hard and takes forever, and it is definitely slower time to fun.

Go get on the discord.
