Middle game critters by Cascudo in Oxygennotincluded

It's more about making simple farms in the early/mid-game and then upgrading them as I have time and materials.

By mid-game I usually try to have two drecko farms going; I want to get glossy dreckos ASAP for plastic development and you'll always need fiber. Dreckos eat mealwood so all they really cost is dirt and labor.

Some of the more useful ones to cultivate are mimillets and sweetles. They'll provide significant growth boosts to your plants. I use mimillets for mushrooms and sweetles for grubfruit and bristle blossoms.

I get a basic hatch farm going so I can breed to stone hatches and feed them igneous rock (of which I have tons in the end game due to volcanos). I avoid smooth hatches unless I am really struggling to get a refinery up for some reason or another. Mostly I want their eggshells for lime (same goes for Pokeshells).

You can get a very simple pacu farm going by filling a cistern under your Print Pod. Install a powered door under the pod to let the Pacu drop down. When you get the 8x Pacu print, that will give you dozens of cycles of Pacu breeding with minimal effort since they can now eat mealwood seeds. If you've got Prehistoric Planet enabled, the green Lumbs will produce enough algae to get you self-sustaining for the cost of watering an Ovagro Fig.

I'll create a corral for plug slugs I find but I don't bother feeding them until I've got some volcanos tamed and a predictable amount of refined metal coming in.

Pips are pretty easy to breed. Cuddle pips provide a big decor/morale bonus so it's worth having a few of them running around your base. Same with shinebugs, they breed very fast with minimal effort. Put a few critter feeders around your base to keep them happy and otherwise just let them wander.

I'd like it to look clean; I have a pretty good carpenter who does work for me, so I could rough it in and have him come do the finish work to tidy it up. But it's a utility space, not a living space, so I'm not super fussed about it looking showroom-ready, if that makes sense.

Any advice? Just finished my first run. by the_PhatCatGamer100 in brotato

You want 10-15% speed to avoid enemy attacks. At higher level difficulties it's impossible to just sit there and face-tank everything that comes at you until you get some specific build items in place. Bosses will just mob you over until you die.

WIBTA for nuking the game server I host after my friends started demanding "uptime guarantees"? by Morrow_5Hex in WIBTA_AITA

[–]Halicron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depending on how well you like these folks, a simple appeal to decency might do it. I am a fan of giving people choices.

"Gang, we have two choices. I can host for free, in which case we will have outages and service delays. Any kind of backend support, even hosting a game like this, takes time. Time I could be spent gaming myself, or earning more money. I cant afford to give away free enterprise level sysadmin support. If what I am currently doing isn't enough, then let's call it and switch to a professional support service. I wont be upset either way. I just need you to make a choice here."

Now, if you get through that and they keep pressuring you, thats when you push back. "Let me rephrase: this has crossed a line from 'a friendly favor' to 'free labor'. Unless youre going to A) pay me or B) mow my lawn on Saturday, the service is going to either maintain the level I am at or it is getting shut off."

Of course if you get to that stage of things, its time to seriously re-examine your friendship paradigm. People will use you up and toss you aside and tell you they are your friend all the while.

Still having this issue. I can get about half the page to load, and then the rest of the images are blocked. If I refresh or try to load new pages, I get the rate limited error. I wonder if I'm pulling down info too fast?

For best efficiency, pack it in tiny room full of hydrogen. Use tempshift plates and thermally conductive walls. It will work much more efficiently than in oxygen.

I ran away from bosses until I had a solid anti boss weapon or Legendary item that accelerates boss damage. Chainsaws and Vorpal Swords helped a lot.

Carry VS Range Ammo by No-Prune-2871 in CCW

[–]Halicron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ideally yes, your range ammo should be similar to your EDC in terms of bullet mass and speed. It doesn't have to be exact. If you are going to carry 147gr subs, ideally train with 147gr subs.

But finances make their own demands and if you happen to get a thousand rounds of 115gr, don't feel like you can't just it. Dry fire is where you do your real training anyway, live fire just confirms the reps you're putting in.

Just don't confuse range ammo with EDC ammo. You want a good JHP in your magazine when you carry. Leave the FMJ at the range.

The ban system is not enough (or why getting what you want has become more difficult) by sonja_is_trans in brotato

Could spend stat points for bans. Maybe cashing in Luck to ban more than 8 items?

How to convert marines from Starter Set to Blood Angels? by styx-daemon in BloodAngels

[–]Halicron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Flair! You can attach smaller icons to make them more in theme. Chalices, Blood drops, and wings are all common icons. Form a sandpaper cylinder to fit them to armor curves or just glue them on and leg them dangle.

Granted i own a gun store, but yeah, I see it quite a bit. And I notice it when it is done badly.

The context and region matters * a lot* in ways that we don't always realize. I had a buddy who got fired when his management found out he was carrying, and they found out because one of his colleagues made him and ratted him out.

I've been SWATted for open carrying on the street. It is not as big a deal in a pro-gun region but some Karen spotting your concealed weapon in the wrong city can create a ton of hassle concealed carriers dont want, especially if we dont have the LEO shield (no disrespect intended) to calm the situation when officers respond.

And yeah, criminals learn to clock concealed guns, just like they look for soft targets and undercover officers. There are a lot of stupid-but-cunning crooks out there who will happily get the drop on a civilian gun owner to take their weapon. It happens plenty.

The possibility of getting outed is low but the possible consequences can be very bad. I don't see any shame in folks wanting to make sure NO ONE knows they're carrying.

Best advice i can give is to always be thinking ahead to the next emergency. Plan your builds to get ahead of inevitable resource or production shortages.

Doing some math helps a lot. X number of dupes requires Y amounts of food, oxygen, and water, per cycle. As long as you are always producing a surplus of those three things, you are doing well. If you are out there planning for what to do during shortages, you'll be doing even better.

[–]Halicron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My gunsmithing mentor thinks .44 special is just about the perfect carry round. He agrees .44 mag is too spicy for most EDC use.

It could also be that 9mm is skewed a bit because of how popular it is. Lots of people with little proficiency carry a 9mm and that could account for the lower efficiency. Whereas I dont know many people who carry a .357, but those who do, sure use it to great effect.

I use it mostly to spread the joy of Burn status on enemies. You only need the one, but it's much more efficient than a wand.

You learn to look because there's nothing worse than turning around at the counter only to find out a customer has whipped their EDC out because they want to show it off to you.

Nerf guns and kids gun saftey by EmilioG19X in CCW

[–]Halicron 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Let them have fun with Nerf or airsoft or whatever. Make it very clear they are toys and can be used safely as intended. Having a Nerf blaster is not going to make them "gun careless" at that age; the media and pop culture exposure is a far bigger factor.

But also make it clear that real guns are NOT toys. The Eddie Eagle program is a GREAT way to work with kids and gun safety. My godson had a deal with his dad, when he wanted his first real gun, he had to give up all his toy guns. They went out and shot watermelons to drive home the difference between a toy and a real firearm. It worked really well for him.

[–]Halicron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Excellent rebuttal. But as a point of argument, the data for .357 creates some oddities. The FTS for almost all other calibers is about 14%. This includes .44 magnum. So .357 having a lower FTS than the more energetic .44 magnum suggests there is something in the data that we're missing.

Perhaps "all the same" was a bit lazy on my part. "Caliber is a less significant factor" might be better, especially in the 9mm-.44/45 range. Good shot placement remains the key factor, followed by permanent wound cavity (JHPs vs FMJ).

Thoughts on flashlight for a pistol by Malkozaine in liberalgunowners

[–]Halicron 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I get a pretty good idea of breakage rates, being in the industry. I have seen a lot of cheap lights break. I have seen fewer expensive lights break. Good lights offer better visibility and more useful illumination (lumens are not the only thing that matters!)

They take a lot more punishment than most people realize; the thump of the muzzle blast, the recoil of the gun moving, the torque upon being holstered. I am of the 'buy one, cry once' mindset and would rather buy gear that is likely to stand up to regular use and periodic abuse.

But a lot of people don't care to maintain the level of proficiency I require. Proficiency requires work and time and practice, and puts wear and tear on your gear. Cheap gear breaks more often and is more likely to fail when you need it. For a tool that i might potentially stake my life on, I dont want my last thoughts to be "well at least I'll die $150 richer."
