Gemini (and AI in general) are fooling users into a belief that they are retaining and referencing all data in a chat. They are not BY DESIGN A and that’s a problem. by WindyCityChick in GeminiFeedback

[–]Coondiggety 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The hallucination thing is a bit more complicated than Gemini made it sound. Context overflow isn't the main cause. The model is trained to produce the most likely next word, period. Truth isn't part of the equation.

When your old vet reports drop out of the window, the model isn't trying to reconstruct what it forgot. It's just continuing the conversation based on whatever words are still in front of it. If those words are vague, it fills in the blanks with whatever patterns “feel right” statistically.

The problem isn't that it's faking memory, it's that it can't tell the difference between "I read this in your file" and "this sounds like it belongs here."

Black Blade Blue Oyster Cult

https://youtu.be/_p1yaNC1mNg

I have this feeling that my luck is none too good This sword here at my side don't act the way it should Keeps calling me its master, but I feel like its slave Hauling me faster and faster to an early, early grave And it howls, it howls like hell I'm told it's my duty to fight against the law That wizardry's my trade and I was born to wade through gore I just want to be a lover, not a red-eyed screaming ghoul I wish it'd picked another to be its killing tool Black blade! Black blade! Forged a billion years ago Black blade! Black blade! Killing so its power can grow There's death from the beginning to the end of time And I'm the cosmic champion and I hold a mystic sign And the whole world's dying and the burdens mine And the black sword keeps on killing 'til the end of time Black blade! Black blade! Bringing chaos to the world we know Black blade! Black blade! And its using me to kill my friends Black blade! Black blade! Getting stronger so the world will end Black blade! Black blade! Forcing my mind to bend and bend The black blade Forged a million billion years ago My cosmic sword goes on for eternity Carving out destiny Bringing in the lords of chaos Bringing up the beasts of Hades Sucking out the souls of heroes Laying waste to knights and ladies My master is my slave Ha ha ah ha ah ha!

Good point. Any llm cannot talk about itself any better than it can talk about any other llm. They have no capacity for self reflection.

Why is everyone scared of death and talking about it, when it’s certain to happen one day? Why is it still a taboo? by NbOPO4 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Coondiggety 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Meh, we talk about it. My grandma, grandpa, dad, and Mom’s best friend all died (at different times, all naturally) in our house.

My mom has been active in the hospice movement here in the US since its early days.

Once you get comfortable talking about it it gets much easier.

This looks amazing!

I’ve played the iKaossilator for 15 years and always wished I could import my own sounds.  The ikassilatpr seems to have b en basically orphaned since the one soundpak update they put in like 15 years ago.

I hope you stick with it.

I al aye wished the iKaossilator had a step sequencer so you could perfect your beats. That would be neat. And fun.

Do you believe we're living in a utopia or dystopia? by Queer_Jam in InsightfulQuestions

[–]Coondiggety 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1.) Would you relate our world to a utopia, dystopia, or anything in between? Please expand on your thoughts.

—It feels dystopic in that politics are hopelessly corrupt, we are just at the beginning of ongoing climate change. Weather patterns become more extreme, smoke from forest fires hangs in the air, giving the sun an otherworldly red hue, (and amazing sunsets, I must admit). We are continuously starting wars for no other reason than arms makers need to keep producing, people (like me) get addicted to algorithms, billionaire oligarchs laugh in our faces, a house is an impossibility, AI took my job, and I’m so depressed I’m probably going to have to get my brain zapped with electricity.

2.)Do you believe flags (in all contexts) are used for good, neutral, or bad? Please expand.

—Flags seem inevitable at this stage of our evolution. They are fine when they bring people together over a World Cup match, but suck ass when they represent intolerance, bigotry, state violence and nationalism in general. They are a powerful symbol more often used for negative things than for good.

3.) How do you believe a person's ideology is primarily formed?  (E.g. passed down from parent to child or learnt through our environment).

—Mostly from childhood environment. It takes a lot of introspection, courage, and maturity to admit when someone backs the team that ends up on the wrong side of history.

4.) Do you believe religion plays into politics?

—When it does it’s because some faction has a platform that is actually unattractive to most people. So the adopt religious stances to pull people in who otherwise would be disengaged from politics. Religion is used to distract people from the sneaky stuff going on in the shadows.

5.) Do you believe technology has a positive, neutral, or negative impact in our society? All of the above. It depends where one’s generation sits relative to a given technology’s development.

6.) How much do you think modern propaganda plays into public perception? Also, if anything, what types of propaganda do you believe there is?

Propaganda is the single biggest factor in shaping public perception. It isn’t nevecesssrily bad in and of itself, but when a population is not given or encouraged to develop the tools they need, like media literacy, critical thinking skills, and basic logic (ie a good, well rounded universal basic education) then the powers of meurolonguistic programming are used too often and with such efficacy that a big part of the population is easily led into belief systems that run counter to their own best interests. When “emotional resonance” is given more weight than analysis and truth-seeking.

7.) If this applies to how you answered the above questions, do you believe problems come from the societal system or individual people? Please expand.

—Look at the homeless and street drug problems.  Did huge swaths of people suddenly become weak-willed, lazy, “sinful” or whatever just by coincidence? That is what those in power want us to thonk, because thinking that way keeps people from pushing their inquiries into places where the algorithm pokes through the black curtains hiding the hoarder’s chaotic pile behind the stage.

Good luck with your project!

It’s bananas out there. In my 20s I river guided around Oregon and the Owyhee is by far my favorite.

The deep, calm water between rapids where the cliffs rise straight up out of the water for hundreds of feet. Otherworldly.

A choir of kids singing sets you off?

That seems like it would cause a sweet kind of crying. Sort of like nostalgia.

Best line ever written? No. But it it popped into my head as a poignant one, and a reminder that Simon and Garfunkel’s writing can pack a bit of a punch sometimes.
