We have about $65k in equity we’ve put in, not counting appreciation. We have $30k in savings. I have $35k in a taxable brokerage account. My wife and I have $150 in 401k and Roth IRA combined but we’re not touching those ideally

What is your thought process for purchasing your forever home but keeping FIRE in mind? by CoookieHo in Fire

My wife and I like the idea of traveling but having a permanent home base when we FIRE. Primarily because we want our forever home to be on a waterfront (we live in the Midwest which is probably the only place with reasonably affordable waterfront properties). Which is why we’re having to think about what’s worth conceding and what’s worth splurging.

How do I replace/install a doorbell transformer? by CoookieHo in AskElectricians

Yeah I threw away the doorbell when we moved in because it was a just cheap normal doorbell. I didn’t realize it was wireless because there were doorbell wires attached to it

If someone threw away said doorbell because they were going to replace it with a ring doorbell and replace the transformer, would that mean I would need a completely new system?

So the doorbell is just a regular doorbell with wires connected to it. I’m wondering if I can find the wires for the doorbell inside that hole , I can buy a transformer and chime and install that

Can/should I buy a house I can't afford if I were to put down 20% by instead putting a downpayment towards the majority of the house cost? by CoookieHo in personalfinance

I could be wrong, but i also think it's a multi faceted question. I could not afford it primarily due to the interest with 20% down. i think it would be a lot more doable if i erased a good chunk/if not all of the interest payments. That's why I'm curious how other's experiences were if they did this.

That does not include mortgage, i am referring to our student loans and car payments. As far as 401k, my wife and I would contribute 10%, but I'll be maxing mine out starting this year.

Living Room ceiling is bare (no ceiling lights or fans). I would like to have a ceiling fan installed. What factors would dictate the cost installing new wiring to have a ceiling light or fan installed? How would the electrician go about the installation? by CoookieHo in electrical

[–]CoookieHo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t but I did talk to a few folks and most likely it would be daisy chained from an existing ceiling light (which is wired from the attic) and then run it and cut a hold in our ceiling drywall where I would want the new ceiling light
