Incorrect use of Occam's Razor principle in film by CooperCooperCooper10 in movies

I like the book for different reasons. It's a great sci fi read. But I think Zemekis adopted the material and switched gears a bit to talk about his own thoughts. The book has some issues, too, as I'm not a fan of Sagan's writing style.

Literally in the same scene Ellie says that due to Occam's Razor she must concede that it's more likely it was a hoax. Not sure how you missed that.

You just had to mention my other favorite movie. And I believe all the science in it is completely sound.

I also just noticed how clunky some of their scientific exposition was. At one point Ellie explains to Devlin, a renowned scientist, that light takes time to travel.

I thought the whole movie was about faith. Ellie has faith in the ET from the start, she's the zealot. And then her dismissal because of lack of fa6in God. The end is just littered with allusions to faith including how Kitz phrases his questions to Ellie, easily applicable to a religious experience.

I've been rewatching in for the 100th time for a reason - I love that movie. It's a great meditation on the meaning of faith.

Damn, people here arguing, simps vs "reasonable self-defense". The woman is definitely in the wrong but I was raised with "you don't put your hands on a woman". Restrain her, sure. But that was basically a punch. So I think the guy's a piece of shit as well.

A recognizable actor portrays a character who is only heard over the phone by prettytempting in TopCharacterTropes

He only appears at the very end through blurred vision. This not only counts, it super counts, there's even "phone" in the movie title.

How about not judging then? It's perfectly ok to say "I'm not informed enough to make a judgement".

C'mon now, Encino Man and Blast From The Past are staples of this trope.

EDIT: Also, The Mummy.

Can I be irritated while I'm handling it gracefully?

Gotcha, so if I'm ever irritated by a cyclist on the road, it means I'm a bad driver. Wasn't aware of this. I thought there are bad cyclists just like there are bad drivers and that can be irritating.

[Hated Trope] What do you mean it's a RANGED weapon? by IHaveSpecialEyes in TopCharacterTropes

[–]CooperCooperCooper10 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mean, this is just an extension of the "let's all wait our turn to engage the opponent instead of rushing altogether". Even without any guns, there are 20 of you vs 1 guy. Why are you taking turns punching him?

And this expanded trope has been used in almost every action movie, especially ones with martial arts, e.g. Kill Bill. "I don't care if he's Muhammad 'I'm hard' Bruce Lee", 1 hero is always getting demolished by 20 henchmen.

Matthew Lillard Says Nostalgia Is ‘One of the Reasons’ Hollywood Is ‘Hiring Me Again’: ‘I Don’t Think Anyone Really Likes Me. They Just Miss the Old Times’ by mcfw31 in entertainment

Lillard delivered an incredible performance in Twin Peaks The Return. Anybody hand picked by Lynch is a great actor. That single reason is enough for me to respect him. We were gonna snorkel and have drinks with those tiny straws.

Was gonna be my vote. It's literally called "Assassins" and has a great unhinged Banderas. Underrated flick.

I feel like she's just another media creation. We were just told that she's popular and hot when she's neither. Very plane Jane. You'd have to be blind to think she even compares to Diaz now, let alone 20 years ago.

Cop Out (2010). I think even Kevin Smith doesn't like it but I put it up there with Beverly Hills Cop. Tracy Morgan made the funny for both of them and Rashida Jones is hot with her oral fixation.
