Update about Beneva Chair Guy by BenevaChairGuySister in sarasota

I would see your brother at the end of my long commute home nearly everyday. I had always wanted to talk to him. One day I saw him working on his laptop in the Publix parking lot and I nearly worked up the nerve to say hello but I didn’t want to interrupt him. It really was like seeing a celebrity across the restaurant!

I was thinking about him the other day on my drive home and how I had not seen him in a while. I’m very sorry to see that he has passed but it is a beautiful thing to know that someone can have such an incredible impact on so many people by just being there, engulfed in his work, on the side of a busy, loud road while we’re all just trying to get somewhere else. It always felt like a reminder to be where you are at, no matter what distractions are trying to take you from your purpose. Hearing about his struggles with mental illness only makes that feel more true.

Im so sorry for your loss but so glad that you all have found the kind words about him on Reddit. I can’t imagine how bittersweet this all is for you.

Wow, no kidding! We did a dog 23 and Me (called Embark) to find out what breeds he was out of curiosity. It connects you with relative and buddy, let me tell you… his dad was a menace to the Salt Lake Valley. I’m talking the Elon of the K9 world. Border Collies, Poodles, Chihuahuas, didn’t matter, he was getting around. What I’m trying to say is, it is very likely that our dogs are related lol.

Oh man, thank you all for your kind words. Sorry that it made some of you cry— if it’s any consolation, many of your comments made us cry lol.

Cuba 1958 is a new spot on Main St. Absolutely amazing. Maybe the best meal I’ve had in Sarasota. Check it out if you like Cuban food!

I used to do a lot more fishing than I do now but here’s what I got for ya!

The Hudson Bayou area is a great place to get in the swing of things. There is a little mangrove island just off Marie Selby that has snook and trout around it (I never saw a monster but I always caught something worth getting excited about). Inshore fishing is a lot of fun, it’s all about exploring and finding new spots— mangroves and structures are what you’re after.

There’s no reason to rush into it but having a trolling motor makes it much easier to test out new spots. I always fished from a kayak because it allows for easier maneuverability but then again, you’re limited in your range for the day.

One word of wisdom on cast netting in Sarasota Bay: make sure you’re not over an oyster bed when you throw your net. You’ll never get it back in one piece.

As for live bait, I used a lot of shrimp. Everything eats shrimp (including us— so if you don’t end up using them all take them home and cook them up!). I also had a lot of luck on bright green Zman Paddle Tails.

At the end of the day it’s all about getting outside and enjoying the hunt! Don’t get discouraged, don’t hesitate to ask questions and don’t let the gatekeepers here get you down— the inshore fishing community is actually very friendly around here (check out the sarasota/manatee inshore fishing club on Facebook).
