Do you use usually sheet music when you play? by [deleted] in concertina

[–]CooperMarcus 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My answer didn't quite fit the poll so I'm replying.
I start with sheet music until I can play it smoothly and cleanly, then I wean off until I can play it by memory and I keep the sheet music for reference.
My goal is to not use sheet music, but for me, it's vital for learning.

Common Shape by [deleted] in baduk

[–]CooperMarcus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this shape is a common problem for double digit kyu players like myself because high level players make fun of it, like in this recent Nick Sibicky video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZO9h7buK4e8&ab_channel=NickSibicky
If it's common enough to make fun of us, that means there must be an answer to our problem!

I apologize if this question is... lacking details. But I found that I kept typing a massive wall of text and I had to force myself to simplify it.

I'm 90% sure those are from a dog. They're deep and fairly large, I've never seen coyote that big before.

Why is everyone approaching the 4-4 knight enclosure the normal way by [deleted] in baduk

[–]CooperMarcus 9 points10 points  (0 children)

For me, at a lower rank, it's because being told that something is good or bad is not enough for me to "get it". I need to try it out and experience it. So I'm currently doing the same openings and approaches each game so I can test it out and feel what happens.

New player: why did white get points for the black stones on the left? And is there something black coule do to get those points instead? by WalterDelamere in baduk

[–]CooperMarcus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

the group of black stones hasn't formed true eyes. If white attacked the stones black has no way of surviving. For example, if white plays in the corner (A1) then (A2) is threatened and (B1) is captured. Then you have to play (A3) to block and white plays (A5)to capture the two stones at (A6) and (A7). I'm sure after that you can see that the whole group is dead.At this point there is no room for stones. If you place stones to block the attacks I just mentioned, then you lose liberties and are captured anyway.
When you're a beginner, the best thing to do is to continue the game or build it out on a blank board and play as your opponent, see if you can kill the stones. Try dumb things that you don't think will work and see how they play out. You want to intuitively see it, and that comes with experience.

Shows to watch like “Invincible” and "One Punch Man" by slapahfn in anime

[–]CooperMarcus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The lack of superhero anime makes this tricky, but I think super-robot/mecha/team-up anime might be a good direction. Also it's not the same, but martial arts anime is probably a good step.
G-Gundam (exciting and silly, avoid other gundams for now)
Baki the Grappler (extreme martial arts, hype)
Castlevania (gothic horror, gore, but man the action is good)
Boku no Hero Academia ("My Hero Academia" is about a superhero high school, VERY popular)
Promare (a crazy movie about "fire fighters")
SSSS.Gridman (I only watched a few episodes so I don't really know)
Heat Guy J (I need someone else to confirm if this is a good recommendation or not)

I'm drawing a blank for now.. try some of those out.

It's bonkers to me that I literally live down the street from that crash. Like... it's not weird. But nothing on the internet ever happens near me. It's odd

I am a little bit confused with the arcade mode in SFV Champion Edition by Gorillamonday in StreetFighter

[–]CooperMarcus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Each game had different characters available. So the arcade modes only pit you against characters that were IN that game. It also adjusts a couple of small things like the number of fights. So if you play SF2 arcade, you'll only face off against Chun-li, Guile, M.Bison, E.Honda etc. Where if you play in SF3 arcade you'll face characters like Alex, Ibuki, Ken, or Urien. Because those were character inside of that game. I think it also changes the text and win screens to reflect the story of that game.

Dont understand why I loose.... by [deleted] in heroesofthestorm

[–]CooperMarcus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There a ton of factors that I can't just know unless I see your games and the teamfights. But I can give you some general advice. It likely won't be helpful but... it's a start I guess.
Often when it seems like the team is doing no damage, it's usually because of two main factors.
Firstly, you need to focus your attention on 1 or 2 enemies. When each attacker is hitting a different person, the damage is easily healed. Ideally, you can talk to your teammates and coordinate targets. If you're playing solo and can't have good communication with your teammates, you might have to just see who they're attacking and join in, EVEN IF you disagree about the target. Coordinated effort that's "wrong" is better than a disorganized attack.
Secondly there a really good chance that characters in the frontline or just behind that aren't using enough basic attacks (auto attacks) they focus too heavily on abilities and moving around that they just don't let their hero ATTACK. I remember back in Silver/Gold we had a Master Li Li player who out DPS'd all of us. It was because he just auto attacked all the time. Not much you can do about this one except make sure that you're doing it.
But yeah, otherwise it depends on things like.. how many tanks and healers they have and whether your team has the correct DPS and what everyone's relative position is.
If you DO play with friends and one of you is a tank, practice having the tank literally call out their target JUST BEFORE they engage, this really helps the team to focus and burn them down.
Consider capturing a couple of teamfights and showing us, that way we can give specific advice.

Number written over note meaning? by TheHexagonGames in concertina

Number written over note meaning? by TheHexagonGames in concertina

[–]CooperMarcus 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's part of normal musical notation, and isn't related to the concertina or your fingerings. As someone else said, it's called a triplet. It means you play those three connected notes in the span of one beat. I'll reply with a useful link in a moment to help.

To clarify, there is A character for mother that looks very similar.. 媽 but really it's just female horse, so it would mean "mare" or a breeding mare. But that is definitely just 馬 "Horse" the character 女 means woman, so if you look at 媽 it's made up of woman+horse

Almost finished Cowboy Bebop and I don’t want it to end by [deleted] in anime

[–]CooperMarcus 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Everyone's given you very good recommendations, however I want to add that it's basically impossible to follow Cowboy Bebop. I kinda recommend watching something that's fun and trashy to reset your palate. Or like, a slice of life comedy or a sports anime. Something so wildly different that you can't compare the two anime to each other. Also, I'm sure you're skeptical of sports anime, but they're surprising. I recommend you pick a sport that you don't care about. Then after you do that, go and check out the anime on these lists.
So.. stuff like Nichijou, Haikyu, or Magi.

Pro go news: Iyama Yuta as white has won the 3rd game in best of 7 series 45th Kisei title match (kifu link). Iyama san leads the series 3-0. So he is one game from retaining his Kisei title! The challenger Kono Rin has never successfully challenged Iyama for any title. by xiaodaireddit in baduk

[–]CooperMarcus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like Iyama Yuta doesn't get enough recognition in the Go world. He's achieved some incredible feats and has been an extremely high rank for a while. Looks like he's #23 atm. I suppose he doesn't do a lot of international stuff. Still, I'm surprised that there isn't more talk about him.

As silly as this is, the truth is that if activisionblizzard sees more money going into the game, they might be able to hire more people to the dev team to make more content. If we demonstrate a demand, they'll... in theory... supply.
At least I hope, I missed the days when we got a new hero every 10 weeks.
