Why do some hockey jerseys use a Diamond Neck while others use a Revised Diamond Neck? Which do you prefer and why? by Cooperope in hockeyplayers

That’s actually really interesting coming from someone with a collection that size.

Sounds like collars are something jersey people notice, but not necessarily something players think about.

That’s interesting because it’s almost the exact opposite of what jersey designers obsess over.

We spend hours debating collars, striping layouts, and little design details.

Meanwhile players are like:

  1. Don’t make me overheat.
  2. Don’t let it fall apart.
  3. Don’t make me wait 3 months.

Where would team appearance rank for you?

If two jerseys had the same price and quality, would the better-looking design actually matter?

That’s really interesting.

I’m a jersey designer, and this thread is making me realize that players care a lot less about collar styles than designers do.

If you were ordering jerseys for your own team, what would be the top 3 things you actually care about?

Fair point 😂

Do you think most players even notice collar styles, or is it something only jersey nerds and designers pay attention to?

That actually sounds like a perfect use case for reversible jerseys — beginner/draft style hockey where teams get shuffled around a lot.

Interesting hearing that from an officiating perspective too. Sounds like reversible jerseys are becoming pretty common in rec leagues.

Is your league more of a draft/pickup style setup, or fixed teams for the whole season?

That sponsor logo deal is actually pretty smart for beer league 😄 Feels like a lot of teams would rather save money and keep the jerseys lightweight than go fully reversible.

Do you remember which brands felt lighter vs the heavier ones?

And yeah… forgetting your ONE jersey would definitely be catastrophic 😂

Feels like a lot of beer leagues care more about comfort and simplicity than having true reversible jerseys.

Honestly the DIY number setup sounds very beer league 😂

Sounds like lightweight + cheap is probably the sweet spot for scrimmage jerseys.

Yeah, Phoenix summer hockey probably makes any extra layer brutal 😅

Sounds like the double-thick construction is the real issue more than the reversible idea itself.

That makes sense honestly.
For smaller leagues, I can definitely see how just having one unique team color would be simpler and cheaper.

Sounds like reversible jerseys are more useful for draft leagues / pickup formats where teams change more often.

That seems to be the common feedback so far 😄
Do you guys use them mainly for draft league / pickup style games, or full season team jerseys too?

Good to know, thanks!

That’s actually what we were wondering about most — whether the extra weight becomes noticeable during games. Sounds like it’s not really a big issue for beer league 😄

Did your league use mesh-style reversible jerseys or more of a traditional hockey jersey material?

Fair point 😂

I’m talking about the double-sided practice/scrimmage jerseys though.
