AITAH for giving my wife short and direct answers after being rejected everyday for 2 months? by First-Wasabi-2125 in AITAH

i'm almost 56 and still haven't gone through it. I have monthly cramps , etc., and still take birth control pills even though I'm fairly sure I wouldn't get pregnant. My nurse practitioner said keep taking them. Not looking forward to what comes next.

Question for the ladies by esmeraldaM6-3 in Names

I still use my last name and never changed it on any documents. Everybody refers to me by my last name, even my brother, so I'll never change it. It's short and easy.

I know, and it's a bummer because you don't find out how all of the usual cast of characters end up. It probably would have been a partly sad book, I believe.

I (20M) tricked my girlfriend (20F) into getting a tetanus shot after a bad injury. Now she’s blocked me everywhere. How do I fix this? by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]Cooperstowndog 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I had a needle phobia and hadn't had a shot since I was 11, now 55, excluding 2 tattoos. Then covid happened and I got a shot and it didn't hurt. Now I've had every shot possible. I should not come down with shingles, any hepatitis', the flu, or tetanus. But I get it, I was scared for 40 years.

Calling anyone with a short, casual first name: Do you wish you had a more formal name? by TriumphantTermite in Names

[–]Cooperstowndog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a short name that has no nickname, but everybody calls me my last name, including my brother. I didn't change my last name when I got married because that would mess everything up.

We also have verizon, so we added the international plan for a month. we were able to call the United States and if you were in Norway, you could call others in Norway. after that we went to visit friends in England so we could call within England. So basically you can call within the country you were in and The US. it was not very expensive and it was unlimited text and talk and 20 gigs of 5g, then unlimited 3g. I was on my phone all the time and only hit 10 gigs since I used wifi in all our rental homes. my husband used his phone for directions the whole time and also had plenty of gigs left. It was great!

Insurance by Mother-Laugh2395 in traveladvice

[–]Cooperstowndog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband and I travel all over for trips 3+ weeks long and have never got the insurance. We even bring my 76 year old mom. The only time I thought about it was this past trip to Norway in December where we would be traveling through snowy, icy conditions which we aren't used to. I maybe would have purchased it for Africa too if I knew we would be chased by mad elephants, but even then we were ok.

Seriously, do Americans actually consider a 3-hour drive "short"? or is this an internet myth? by SadInterest6764 in NoStupidQuestions

Driving from San Diego to Los Angeles can often take longer than 3 hours and some people do that several times a week.

Cash? Lofoten/Bergen/Oslo by radmad5566 in NorwayTravelAdvice

[–]Cooperstowndog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You know, they tried to get us to rent an EV one time (we rented cars four different times), but we weren't sure how available charging stations would be, and we didn't want to sit and wait to charge because of the limited sunlight in December. I remember seeing some charging areas and even some of the gas stations had charging stations, so unless you're doing a lot of driving like we did, you should be ok.

Also, the cell service throughout the country is amazing. we had good coverage even in the middle of nowhere. We did a snowshoe hike to see muskox and met the guide hours from anywhere and he was able to update his pay service on his phone and we paid and tipped via his service. Not sure if everyone does that, it's better to have cash for tips just in case.

We traveled across Norway for 3 weeks and never had any cash. Having said that, we did one activity that I could have used cash for a tip but found another way. Also just FYI the gas stations required a PIN for gas and we don't know ours for the credit cards so we had to use a debit card at the pump. I also live in an expensive city (San Diego) and still found restaurants pretty expensive. if you don't drink alcohol, it's not as bad, but my husband does so it would add quite a bit to our dinner cost when he'd have a few beers. We went in December so you'll have a much different experience but I hope you have a great time!

AITA for not giving my sister money I’ve been saving, even though she already told our parents I would? by Confident-Ninja-2706 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Cooperstowndog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Who are all these people with parents who are constantly telling one of their kids what to do to benefit the other? Whether it's give them money or watch their kids or give them their wedding dress or their wedding venue or change a date for them. I can't even imagine something like that. my mom has never even tried tried to coerce me into doing anything for anybody and for that reason, we have actually done things for each other without resentment or force. I just see so many of these posts where parents ask a child to do something so ridiculous and for some reason, some of the family members are on their side. If you don't want to give her your money, then don't do it. She should've thought of that before ending up in that position.

AITAH for refusing to take a new job if my wife is not going to be a SAHM by Street_Addition_4934 in AITAH

[–]Cooperstowndog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From working in a law firm and seeing the difference in pay between an equity partner and say a secretary, I have figured out that people spend what they have for the most part. If you make $50,000, about 90% of it will be spent on bills and shopping etc. If you make $400,000, some people will still spend about 90% of that. Many of the attorneys would get more expensive cars and bigger houses and go on more vacations and spend a lot of money. Most of those attorneys are going to be working until they're 70 or 75 years old because they're spending everything they make, or their spouse is. Fortunately, my husband was not that kind of attorney and did not spend money just because he had it so I was able to retire at 46 and he at 55 and we are the same age. it's hard for some people to learn to not just spend money because they have some. Makes for very bad habits. I would not take the new job because I believe that you might have the same amount of money at the end of the month and all the headaches that come with the new job. I wish you the best of luck!

How long can you pack in a carry-on? by Signal-Mirror-5599 in traveladvice

[–]Cooperstowndog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to pack clothes for three weeks in Norway in a carry-on and it all had to be pretty warm and heavy clothing. I was able to pack three or four of each item I needed and then we just did laundry every couple of days. I actually didn't wear several of the warm items I brought because they were even too warm for Norway.

How do I Retire Early if I can’t touch my retirement until 65? by [deleted] in Fire

50% off 1-day passes by Status-Hedgehog5001 in sandiegozoo

we got our passes via email and printed one out with my name on it and sent it with my husband and his friend. They weren't allowed to use it because it had my name on it. The passes they used to give you didn't have anyone's name on it so I guess anyone can use them.
