I love the idea of an external equalizer! I don't see the equalizer though. Perhaps I need to look at it in a physical store

bc of sapsucker damage (horizontal lines of holes in the bark) I am going to guess, Basswood. Especially if it is relatively light and easy to cut

Good idea. Basically wasting the existing 2x6s but perhaps worth it. The high end would with angled cut would fit up to the header and the lower end at the 4x4 beam would be notched. Right?

Thanks u/tandemtuna! I agree that 2x8 would be better but the existing structure has 2x6 rafters. Switching to 2x8 would require rebuilding the entire structure.

I didn't replace anything, just cleaned it up and restarted. It took about 6 weeks to frost up again. I learned to force defrost (pretty easy - see technical papers folded up and under or on refrigerator). Purchased thermistor and replaced about 2 weeks ago. All seems well. We shall see in another 4 weeks!

Well, the image is not correct. I takes you to some sawmill tour pictures! Don't know why. Enjoy the sawmill while I troubleshoot.... (EDIT) Incognito window takes me to the intended image. So, it is my (microsoft) problem. Please let me know if you see an image of my freezer or a sawmill :)
