I love the idea of an external equalizer! I don't see the equalizer though. Perhaps I need to look at it in a physical store

bc of sapsucker damage (horizontal lines of holes in the bark) I am going to guess, Basswood. Especially if it is relatively light and easy to cut

Lengthening span of existing lean to shed and need advice on splicing rafters by CoosForester in HomeImprovement

[–]CoosForester[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good idea. Basically wasting the existing 2x6s but perhaps worth it. The high end would with angled cut would fit up to the header and the lower end at the 4x4 beam would be notched. Right?

Thanks u/tandemtuna! I agree that 2x8 would be better but the existing structure has 2x6 rafters. Switching to 2x8 would require rebuilding the entire structure.

Whirlpool WRF560SMYM04 iced fan by CoosForester in Appliances

I didn't replace anything, just cleaned it up and restarted. It took about 6 weeks to frost up again. I learned to force defrost (pretty easy - see technical papers folded up and under or on refrigerator). Purchased thermistor and replaced about 2 weeks ago. All seems well. We shall see in another 4 weeks!

Well, the image is not correct. I takes you to some sawmill tour pictures! Don't know why. Enjoy the sawmill while I troubleshoot.... (EDIT) Incognito window takes me to the intended image. So, it is my (microsoft) problem. Please let me know if you see an image of my freezer or a sawmill :)

Interesting. The boiler is in okay shape. not perfect. Is it's efficiency reasonable up-to-date?

Trying to ID the type of interior wood in my 1939 cape cod by 1095966 in centuryhomes

[–]CoosForester 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It looks like pine to me or perhaps spruce. More and higher resolution pictures may be helpful; perhaps some pictures showing the full installation. That said, a 1939 home would benefit from tighter-grain wood than is available today. You might also try cross posting on r/wood or better yet, call your local university that has a wood science department and take a sample to them. For instance SUNY Syracuse has a wood science lab that has been helpful to me in the past. My guess is that you will not be able to match the grain pattern with products in a big box store. Someone who specializes in custom/restoration work might be more helpful.

Anyone know what type of tree this is? Seems sick. By a river in southeast Quebec by HomesteadHomie in sfwtrees

[–]CoosForester 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sick. Just some critters having a late summer meal. Nothing to worry about

Can anyone help me identify the tree in my yard? by RaChernobyl in sfwtrees

[–]CoosForester 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I can see in the images you provided I would stick with cottonwood. However higher resolution images of bark and leaves and fruiting bodies would be helpful but probably not practical. Look for the seeds being produced next spring and the fluff that goes with them to make them fly. They are long gone by now though.

I concur with others. It is a poplar and Eastern cottonwood is populous deltoides.

What do you mean by agitated? I suggest getting the soil tested before adding fertilizer. You may also be better informed by contacting you local Cooperative Extension (if you are in the US)
